Was my dad awake?!

i am wondering if my deceased elder father was awake?

once we found out he was dying, i spent every moment i could with him, we were very close.

anyway, i offered to read to him a lot when he was resting.

EyesOpenHeartBroken, it is sad to hear that your father has passed away, it's not easy to deal with. I was fortunate enough to spend time with my father during his last months and I will never forget that as I imagine that is the same with you.

Thank you for sharing what he had to say. I will consider the book of John and James with your father's appreciation of them in mind.

Some posters have mentioned before that particularly amongst some of the older Elders there were/are some very special men. You're dad sounds like he was one of them. They knew of the flaws within the Organization, they saw it and experienced it on a level that most r&f members will never see. What kept them going was their love for God and they knew of no other way of feeling that they were serving him to the best of their ability. They were sincere and probably very disappointed at the many wrongs that they had seen.

Treasure the things that you learnt from him.

Special Pioneer Sister-in-Law and Husband just got their letter.

well, my sister-in-law and her husband, special pioneers for only a couple of years, just got their letter.. her comment was along the lines of, "they're having to do this because they forgave all those kingdom hall loans a few years ago and the brothers aren't donating anymore.".

when my wife told me, i laughed so hard i farted.

Joe134cd Joe= (in my mind I'm thinking WTF) I just think they have to be a bit more transparent and a bit more up front with there members. If these are in fact satanic lies that need to be rejected by the faithful then they certainly need to clear this up

That would require some humilty and for them to put the concerns of the flock ahead of their own. They often come across to me as basically suggesting it is none of their business and 'you just give us the money and we'll take care of everything else'.

Their demand to 'just trust us' is going to start to ring very hollow to some members.

AGM 2015: "New Light"

i could only manage to watch the part of the antitypical babylonian exile not being from 1914-1919, but from some time in the second century to 1919..

for the interest on keeping tabs what family and former friends are being taught...what other new light was given?

specifically, what is the new light in regard the mark?.

Regarding the new light about the Babylonian exile being from sometime in the 2nd Century to 1919 they are going to have to rethink some of their other teachings, I would think.

One example being that Jesus was supposed to have inspected and cleansed the temple between 1914 to 1918/1919. Yet 'his people' are now no longer in the temple during that period because they were in exile.

Londo this was the new light regarding 'the mark'. Basically, the man with the secretary's inkhorn is no longer the anointed but Jesus.

Previous teaching - Quote from Survival into the new earth .....(Ezekiel 9:1-11) What was the key to survival? It was the mark placed on one’s forehead by the man with the secretary’s inkhorn........They must be marked by the ‘man with the secretary’s inkhorn.’ The facts show that “the faithful and discreet slave” class is doing that marking work today.—Matthew 24:45-47.......... Not only persons who have come out of Christendom but all, regardless of background, who hope to survive into the “new earth” as associates of the anointed class must have this mark.

Now here's a problem, the man with the secretary's inkhorn was the FDS but the FDS these days only comprise the Governing Body members. When they wrote this they said the FDS was all anointed.

It would be beyond comprehension that the only ones with the inkhorn were the Governing Body so they've had to make up a new interpretation.

We now have 'new light'.

They announced this new idea at the 2015 WTBTS annual meeting. The man (who is apparently no longer a man) with the inkhorn is now Jesus.

I was wondering why they no longer wished this man with the inkhorn to be either the anointed or the FDS. It served their purpose in confirming that a person needed to be associated with the earthly organization in order to have any hope of 'surviving into the new earth'.

This change is simply another demotion of the anointed, their importance is being further eroded.

A call from family - Armageddon this month!

i very seldom receive a call from my jw siblings, i mean seldom.

i can count them on my hand in past 10 years.

while we talk about mom a lot and i am in touch with her, i was very surprised when i received this call.

You handled that well Kaik, pressing the point with her would not be a good idea.

I am glad she got away for the weekend. It is surprising that real die hard JWs don't mind missing the meetings these days and doing less in field service.

I know of one couple that after more than 30 years of pioneering are now taking steps to own their own house and focusing more on earning a better income.

Special Pioneer Couple Living at a Kingdom Hall In Miami FL, get the dreaded Letter

just got a phone call from an older sister saying that a couple that got re-assigned from bethel 4 years ago to live at their kh apartment as special pioneers, just received a letter saying "as of january 2016, your special pioneer assignment will be discontinued".. they live in a south miami kh(snapper creek congregation).. this couple had only served in bethel for 15 years before they were sent out into the special pioneer work.

they are now in their mid 50's and the sister said that they have to find part time jobs to support themselves.. the older sister (does not have a pc or internet), says that the couple are just devastated!

Jesuit Scholar - thankyou for your thoughtful post. This is really another example of how the Organization/Society/God's earthly part of his Kingdom exists on its own and in its own right. It's not interested in being loving and christian towards its own followers, that is only superficial but its main focus is on its self survival.

Handing out candy

growing up my parents would barricade our home off by parking vehicles bumper to bumper - you would have to crawl under the cars or over the bumpers to get to our door.

also, we would turn off all the lights and hide in the back room away from the street.. that was the norm for me.

isnt that insane?

i am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.

i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.

it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

Eden - What you just did to me is the ultimate example of name-calling and derogatory remarks that I was talking about before that are unhealthy for this forum and are detrimental for people who come here in search of help. I think you should ask yourself if your drive for confrontation is welcome here. And Simon should ask himself if this continued type of behavior should be allowed to continue in this forum. Because if it is, then I will ask myself if I should continue to come here, for this is no better than the relentless bully witch-hunting that the JW Elders served me with until my JC.

Unfortunately it stifles discussion and it has the potential of losing members here. Your posts show intelligence, are well thought out and allow for open discussion.

It would be a real loss to lose you and ones like you.

We have seen from the past that Simon considers these things seriously and has done well to maintain a welcoming forum. He shows a lot of patience and this might be to allow time for most of us to see that the poster has dug their own grave rather than him just taking a heavy hand even though his experience and intuition has taught him that there might be a problem.

Vivean - So, post your proof, retract your comment and apologize or expect hell.

That is some demand. Let's see that demand going through a court of law.

Calling you a liar without foundation and for a trivial reason was uncalled for but threatening you by saying that you will have hell to pay if you continue your unprovoking comments is over the top.
