  I'm a new study, need advice.

  a little background on me, i have never been a jw.

  my spouse was born and raised in the cult, disfellowshipped as a young adult and is now completely shunned by family still trapped inside.

  before i met my spouse i knew very little about the jws.

  If the situation were reversed and I was the one who had been raised in a high control doomsday group, I would want someone to try and gently show me that there is real freedom beyond the imaginary walls the cult has created and dubbed as “spiritual protection”.

  Keep in mind though, not everyone wants that. Some people actually want this kind of religion, they need the structure and to be told what to do. Not to discourage you, as I would do the same thing in your situation. Loosing your religion is scary and really painful. You can plant seeds, but it's up to the individual to wake up. They have to do it. The whole leading a horse to water thing. It's just something to keep in mind and helps a lot with the frustration. You're in a great situation to help someone get out if they want it. What diamondiiz said, that's the key to everything they teach--everything hangs on they're being selected by Jesus. There's lots of info on here for almost anything that comes up in your study. Also check out jwfacts.com and freeminds.org. Glad you found us!

  interesting points from this week's wt study (dec 15 2010 study edition):.

  par 12: "do i encourage my children not to view the song between the theocratic ministry school and the service meeting or the one between the public talk and the watchtower study as a sort of intermission,an opportunity for them to leave their seats unnecessarily, perhaps just to stretch their legs?".

  why do they have to make such a big deal out of everything?

  if you were thrown into prison, how many of our Kingdom songs would you be able to sing from memory?

  That's a bit odd. The people writing this sh*t should have to care for 3-12 year old children during all meetings for at least a month.

  New member - my story

  just a brief introduction, i thought i would try out one of the more established forums, have done some stuff on youtube and other places but thought i would give this a try.. potted history: raised jw by mother, in it for 30 years or so, baptised at age 18, regular pioneer at 20, ms a couple years later, mts at 26 and got assignment to a new cong, elder at around 29, came off pioneering around 31, came off as elder around 32, started to slowly wind down, completely stopped attending about 3 years ago, disassociated dec 2010. pause for breath.. the last 5 years or so have been a painfully gradual process of deconstructing myself and then piecing together fragments of my shattered life that are still valid outside the organisation.

  ' has been a continual investigation; every day for the first couple of years i would realise another subject or issue that i didn't have my own opinions about.

  The question 'Who am I?' has been a continual investigation; every day for the first couple of years I would realise another subject or issue that I didn't have my own opinions about. Building an identity for 30 years, then - upon discovering its many flaws - purposefully, intentionally, smashing it to dust, is a difficult experience; rebuilding yourself is simultaneously far harder, and far more rewarding.

  This is what I'm still doing, smashing everything. I've been df'd for 6 years, but only woke up last April. You sound like you've figured out a lot since then; which gives me hope that it will get better. I want to be like you when I grow up! Lol! I look forward to hearing more of your story.

  i know that since the witnesses don't like education b/c one might learn to think, members are consigned to certain jobs.

  brothers held jobs as cheap soe salesman, that type of thing.

  some security without a gun.

  My dad had a window cleaning business which he sold to a brother; my mom and I had our own small business for about 4 years which we sold to a brother which he then sold to another brother. We had several friends that cleaned windows on the high rise buildings in the city. So yeah, I'd say it's pretty common. It's good money with a short amount of time spent. It was then, don't know how it is now.

  The whole heart of the matter is: what evidence is there the GB/FDS were appointed by Jesus in 1919? Everything else hangs on that. If they weren't appointed, why should we follow them when they're wrong?

  i was sitting in my garage, as i often do, to chill out and i actually ended up becoming angry.. so here i am, in my garage, kicking it on the stool for the drum set that is in there (i am a pianist/composer, not a drummer).

  i start to think about all the crazy stuff that transpires on this planet.

  we have all seen shows and heard stories or maybe even witnessed events that don't add up.

  I really hate to tell you this, but only demons communicate through cards and board games. j/k!

  Can I say this is a perfect example of why I loove this forum? I find a lot of people aren't willing to share their religious experiences with just anyone. But here comes Sab, who just had one but wants to explore the possibilites before coming to any conclusions and invites everyone's input. I love it!

  But is it really new data? I mean, how do you test that to prove or disprove an intelligient life or supernatural occurence? And if you can, what does that mean? Does it change your life?

  My daughter. I will not risk her life over a Mosaic dietary law. I will not let her fear her father's or my destruction at Armageddon because we refuse to have anything to do with this religion. I will not influence her to rejoice over the death of millions of people. I will not teach her that she is a sinful, second-class person deserving of death and the only worthwhile thing she can do with her life is peddle magazines 70 hours a month.

  next week's congregation bible study will explain and illustrate why christendom is toast, and how we can contribute to the joy of christ by supporting "the faithful and discreet slave.".
