At what point did you realize JW's were a Cult?
by Think About It inmost of us x-jw's at one point no doubt defended the jw's when called a cult.
althought being out since 95', when i first came here it took awhile before i could use the cult word to describe the jw religion.
finding out about the pedophile scandal was disgusting, but it was probably finding out here about the wts history and terrible personal experiences of some on this board that made me finally admit that the jw's were a cult.

I have read many, many of your posts, debator and crap is crap. When it is clear you are talking to someone who refuses to hear, you need to shake the dust off your sandles and move on, you understand that and can probably quote scripture and verse once you look it up. I have moved on from you and your opinions, as have so many others in here. Perhaps it is time to change your nick again.

I'm very new here, but hope you will accept my congratulations for having broken free. This forum is an exceptionally valuable source of information and insights and I am hopeful that it will provide me with what I need to help my wife break free as the two of you have done.

How do we identify the true Born Again Christyian's?
by wannabe innote his words on this: "most truly i say to you, unless anyone is born from water and spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of god.
look again, at what jesus said about being born again: "most truly i say to you, unless anyone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of god.
" unless anyone is born from water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of god.

Does any of this make sense to anyone besides Wannabe?
Just asking.
I had to stop reading after the first few sentences. Made me dizzy.

Interesting thread. I read it through (with the exception of debator's posts and replies to them - I have wasted enough time attempting to debunk his/her nonsense and have at last come to realise that his/her opinions are not worth the teenie, weenie fractions of bandwidth they take up - which generally makes for a more enlightening dissertation without the useless baggage.)
THIS quote was powerful, for obvious reasons.
“When our own thoughts are forbidden, when our questions are not allowed and our doubts are punished, when contacts and friendships outside of the organization are censored, we are being abused for an end that never justifies its means. When our heart aches knowing we have made friendships that will be forever forbidden if we leave, we are in danger. When we consider staying in a group because we cannot bear the loss, disappointment and sorrow our leaving will cause for ourselves and those we have come to love, we are in a cult.”

Atheist Richard Dawkins aids Haiti
by purplesofa inatheist richard dawkins aids haiti, touts god-free givinghttp://content.usatoday.com/communities/religion/post/2010/01/atheists-haiti-earthquake-doctors-without-borders-red-cross/1?csp=obinsite.
donations to faith-based aid groups are soaring and believers get a great deal of just credit for stepping up to help in haiti.
now unbelievers want the world to know they're just as caring.. .

Why are his non-beliefs important?
Richard Dawkins is a mixed bag, like everyone else. He has his points and he has his quirks - like his cringeworthy (as Christopher Hitchens terms it) suggestion that atheists should relabel themselves "Brights" to improve their public image, much like homosexuals relabelled themselves "Gay" for the same reason. He gets precipitously close to being an apologist for pedophiles at times, saying they are very bad, but not that bad relative to others who are worse (he tells a story of a little girl who was molested by a priest around the same time she was told that sinners roast in Hell and who, as a woman, describes the molestation as merely "yucky" but the hellfire image as truly horrifying and scarring to her psyche.) That said, I like the guy's mind.
Regardless, he does have a bee up his ass about religion, pretty much despises it, and that is the reason he is keen to demonstrate that non-believers like him can be altruistic.

(Dan, pardon me while I respond to the two posts above.) Strength is precisely what brotherdan needs to feel and demonstrate right now. And I think he realises this, too. The circumstance he describes demands this above all things, far more than remote expressions of sympathy from those of us in here who can do nothing about it. He's in here looking for help, not for someone to hold his hand.
Dan, get a grip and take control. Stop wallowing.

Dan, what is it exactly you want to achieve? You don't need to respond to this thread, just sit down, face your reality, figure out what you want to happen and then figure out how you are going to do it. Guaranteed the game will change along the way and you will have to adjust your approach but you are not going to win it if you don't get a grip. This is going to sound coarse and unfeeling but grow some balls. I'm not saying get tough and hardassed, I'm advising that you find your courage, because it seems from your latest posts that it is lacking.

Nick .... I am not a Mormon, technically I am still an active JW
The WTS ripped off the FWN idea from the Mormons (who started it in 1905 and strongly suggested it be held on Mondays in 2002) and they have set up thousands of sites devoted to FHE ideas. All of these ideas (crafts, songs, games, activity- Sunday school stuff) can be adapted to any belief system.
Genuine apologies, Yknot, my brain got ahead of itself. I should have read your post more closely.
Dan, if I was there I'd give you a good shake. Get a grip and take control, man.
