Gerrit Loesch was at our DC today!
by goatshapeddemon inso, unexpectedly, the final talk was announced today and to my surprise and evil glee, they announced gerrit loesch as the speaker!
first off, at the beginning of his talk, he interrupted himself in the middle of his sentence to scold the microphone brother to lower my mike it's right in my face.. anyway, it was the talk on inspired truth, vs. inspired falsehoods.
he went through 6 expressions inspired by the demons.

Falling asleep praying...did you?
by punkofnice ini remember there being 'admonition(tm)' from the platform about how disrespectful it is to sky twat jar hoover if we nod off when speaking to our imaginary despot god.. i was always nodding off when praying.
i noticed in the end it didn't matter if i prayed or not the results were always equally disappointing snooze or not!.

I fell asleep standing while bowing my head, eyes closed, during one of Knorrs marathon prayers.
I used to feel really bad for not finishing my chat with J Edgar Hovah before dropping off.
I like Blondies idea of a "pre-paid postage" amen.
The great thing about praying to the FSM is that you speak directly without going through a meaty-eater

Is This Site As Active As It Was In The Past?

.
sometimes it seems this place buzzes and other times, not so much....but maybe it's all in my head..

after a while it just felt like a pack of people made it almost impossible to post something with out them coming in and being nasty.
Yeah, we know what you are saying. Not hard to figure out.
The big clue is to see how many posts they make in proportion to the political threads they try to dominate with nasty. They are no more inrerested in JW related subjects than they are in bird watching. JWN is just a place to vent their political put downs.
Borong.
Just a suggestion to Simon, but the political threads have burned off more participants in this site than any other thing.
IMHO

My son was fishing out of Sitka this past week and he said the water was like glass, the fish were big and he had to watch out for sunburn.

It is totally situational and some of the factors have been mentioned above.
Your anecdotal situation sounds positive but I do not think it is typical.
Let's have no more equivocation about wether or not JW's in general are self centered cold hearted judgemental jerks waiting for God to kill everyone that is not in the club.
JW to spouse - "Oh my! Did you hear that bro and sister irregular were killed in an auto accident?"
spouse - "oh dear! That is so sad"
JW - "Well, they have been missing meetings lately and Brother Elder told me they were struggling with oral sex"
spouse - "Oh. F'um then. What's on TV tonight?"

Price gouging after natural disasters ... where should capitalism end?
by Simon ini'm sure you're all getting bored by my discussion of the recent 2013 flooding in southern alberta and flood insurance but as you can imagine it's on everyone's mind here right now.. the latest issue in the news now is price gouging and overcharging after a natural disaster.. some claim to have been overcharged by people profiteering after the floods.. some of the cases seem like misunderstandings - if you go to a 7/11 that normally sells bottled water individually and you want to buy a whole flat of it, i don't think you should suddenly expect costco prices for it.. but others do seem like they are taking advantage ... or are they?.
one could argue that high prices will smooth out demand and prevent greedy people from stockpiling more than they need that they may otherwise buy and hoard.. isn't it the ultimate manifestation of free-market economics, sullply and demand to set the price?
capitalism at work?.

I think it is circumstantial. Some natural disasters are forecast. Ideally, people should be responsible for themselves. But for a merchant to raise prices on essentials after people have been caught in a sudden event? I think it is ugly and nasty. After the situation gets back to normal I think that people will remember the merchant who took advantage of their hardship.

Didn't something similar happen a couple of years back with Dog the Bounty Hunter?
I appreciate your mild and reasonable response, Wasblind. But the N word coming from her is like an icepick in my ear. Add that to her idea for a Civil War themed party with "N" servants dressed in period costume was a little too much.

7 graphs that prove America is overrated
by Simon inbefore the usual suspects start reaching for the pich-forks and forming a mob, i invite you to actually read and consider this, not just leap to conclusions.. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/130607/7-graphs-america-overrated-nsa-prism-privacy.
why do i care?
it seems the people being screwed the most are also the most visciferous defenders of the status quo which sees them being severely disadvantaged.. maternity leave?

Of course you are correct, sooner. Graphs and statistics are very accomodating to those who have an ax to grind. The very title of this thread is nonsensical. "overrated" ? By what rating authority? Oh, that's right, the people who put together the 7 graphs!
Simon, your anti US hang up is old news. I was born and raised here and I don't feel the need to defend the country in general. It has a lot wrong with it but hopefully it will get better.
