so i got a hankering to go to church.
i waffle between being an atheist, being angry with god, and liking jesus, and wishing my perception of god and religion hadn't been so tainted by the evil wts.. my grandma was methodist before becoming a jw, so i lean toward going to a methodist church when i get the urge to go.. the service was nice, about being a "called christian" as opposed to just being called a christian.

Why not have your own private communion at home? The emblems are simple - unleavened bread and wine. It is the significance of your feelings about the symbolism that is important. Read significant passages in the gospels first to get in the groove. You can do it anytime, doesn't have to be Memorial night.
If you are a Catholic you really have to 'be there' and get into the "transubstantiation" mindset and the priestly supervision.

There are so many "back channel" rumors and "friend of a friend" experiences floating around the JW world that it become an extension of the TRUTH. Demon influence is especially emphasized. The bottom line is a cult with a very similar modus to fundy emotionalism.
Glorified superstition
so i made a couple of comments on my older brother's fb and i think i might have gone too far.. a little background.
my brother is a pretty popular guy... i am about a year younger than him and although we currently live on opposite coasts of the us., i know most of his jw friends.
he has about 600 fb friends and is on his page daily making announcements on there as if he's ashton kutcher talking to his fans....or something.
strange response, ex. are you jealous of your brother's popularity or are you still just a bit under the cult-think yourself? sounds like you are still a victim -
"... Hopefully he won't unfriend or unbrother me."
next time you stand up for yourself just a little bit, as you did in your FB post, don't panic over a little silent treatment unless your cajones are ready for it.

This broad class of people is quite interesting . What is fascinating is that they have so many sub-groups.
Prepping for what? Everything from total economic collapse, solar flares that destroy the powergrid, asteroids, and the old reliable (and realistic), threat of nuclear warfare.
I remember the Cuban missle crises/cold war days when the supermarket where I worked in the San Fernando valley was left with bare shelves within 24 hours after Kennedy's speech. In those days, fallout shelters were considered a wise investment.
Because of where we live and potential weather related isolation we keep a well stocked pantry. But this is not the same thing as well armed "preppers" waiting for their neighbors to get hungry enough to try and take their food. Most of the people shown are overweight. Maybe food is their security blanket.

it did for me even though i eventually walked out on my terms and fully convinced of the apostasy of the watchtower pharisees and sanhedrin (governing body).. initially it was very confusing and bewildering since i was a 3rd generation born-in and the watchtower was the only "reality" i'd known for more than 40 years.. a psychologist diagnosed ptsd (post traumatic stress disorder) and recommended attending a cult conference and workshop for victims of psychological manipulation.
i learnt about "triggers" that cause turmoil and upset whilst one is suffering from ptsd.. for nearly 2 years i could not answer a phone without a minor panic attack.
i could only respond to voicemails.

good point, Bobid. I think the publics association of pedophilia with the Catholic Church is because of the church's magnitude in general. Possibly someone could calculate the percentage that would show the JW problem in proportion.
It seems that there is a couple of generations of British sexual deviates that supposedly was born of the Victorian era mores. Can anyone comment of that phenom.?

one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.
I think the attitude of the GB is pretty plain in cases that happen right under their nose. The young man serving at Bethel who jumped to his death from his dorm window several years ago. I believe the story behind it was that he was struggling with his sexual orientation.
Viola! an excuse for the GB to show their self righteous disregard for a human tragedy. He was some one's son.
