an eminent uk engineer is suggesting building cloud-whitening towers in the faroe islands as a "technical fix" for warming across the arctic.. scientists told uk mps this week that the possibility of a major methane release triggered by melting arctic ice constitutes a "planetary emergency".. the arctic could be sea-ice free each september within a few years.. wave energy pioneer stephen salter has shown that pumping seawater sprays into the atmosphere could cool the planet.. the edinburgh university academic has previously suggested whitening clouds using specially-built ships.. at a meeting in westminster organised by the arctic methane emergency group (ameg), prof salter told mps that the situation in the arctic was so serious that ships might take too long.. "i don't think there's time to do ships for the arctic now," he said.. "we'd need a bit of land, in clean air and the right distance north... where you can cool water flowing into the arctic.".

My mother will be 84 next month and we have very little communication. Our phone conversations usually conclude with her hanging up because I bring up questions that don't fit in with her Mother Teresa self-image.

Bought a Kindle 3g last fall. I have read a couple of dozen books on it and find it almost addictive. Book prices are more than reasonable and it is very convenient to read. I now have a current book going and two more qued up. I seem to be reading many more pages and I think it is because, for one thing, I don't have hold a clumsy book, just turn the pages with a click. The book selections are limitless and every so often I come across a .99 cent special that I would have paid $20.00 for. I have no more room in my library for hard copies anyway.

Anyone else using an e-reader?

Thanks for the perspective, Terry. You described the last 100+ yrs of the JW phenom. very well. Why can't the people who have been inside for most of their life see it? THEY DO. But they are so ensnarled with the cult it would be like cutting out a tumor that is tied to critical blood vessels' Disfellowshipping and shunning is the antidote to the poison they have created.

Sorry if this is a little incoherent , I've had a couple balloons of brandy.

Lady Lee is absolutely correct. I would only point out that many people have staked out their beliefs and invested their entire self image and social/family structure in those beliefs. They are only looking for reinforcement in their choices of information sources, thus the status quo.

A complicated way of saying that a lot of people suffer from arrested development.
