I can recommend L'uomo delle stelle. It's Italian, obviously . It's about a freelance photographer who cons people into having their photos taken for big Lira, to be submitted to film makers so they can become movie stars. It's abit fruity in places. Brilliant Sicilian dialect.

I'm interested in all genres.....EVERYTHING.

Is Another 1975 Possible?
by God_Delusion inhowdy,.
do you think the society has a planned campaign where they will state that armageddon will be upon us within the next 10 years and actually state that armageddon will definitely hit by 2020?
we all know that they have been drumming into us that "the end is just around the corner", but can you see them pulling another 1975 stunt in order to bring in additional members?.

I can't see it. Although they love to look for signs that aren't there, and they have thoroughly dissected the bible, I think they are just so scared of another thing returning to bite them in the arse. Even if they found some previously unseen interpretation of scripture, and were thoroughly convinced of it themselves, I just doubt they'd be so stupid.
The new generation interpretation shows just what a rudderless ship the WT$ really is. It's a hash-up by committee. In the old days, people like Rutherford and franz came up with the loopy ideas, and everybody else just nodded and said 'yes, boss'.

I like how you distinguished what the sister was like- dumb sister kinda narrows it down to one out of 3 and a half million witnesses. Really ,really fat kinda narrows it down to one out of half a million witnesses. Lol!
sorry, it just made me laugh! That and the PG part. Lol! As an adult, was she suggesting you needed YOUR parent's guidance too?

I know a sister that started studying with the Witlesses, and had 2 primary school aged children. She bought them a small wooden school desk and chairs from a charity shop. You know the kind- little inkwell and flip-up lid. covered in inksplats and doodles, from the 40's or 50's. The kids absolutely loved it, and felt really grown up to have their own school desk. They would use it every night to do their homework.
Two weeks later, this sister plucked up the courage to tell her hubby that she'd been studying with the Witlesses, and that she was going to the meeting that night. He went ballistic, obviously, and searched everywhere for her hidden books and bible, and binned them. He went into a rage and they had a blazing row where he slapped her. The next day she discussed what happened to her study conductor, and her friends in the troof. The general consensus was that she had brought something into the house that was demon-possessed.
You guessed it- the kids' desk and chairs were to blame. She took them into the yard and split them up with an axe, and took the wreckage to the local dump. The kids got home and bawled their eyes out, even though she'd bought them a new IKEA type desk. She told her hubby that she'd found woodworm, so she took it to a charity shop. To this day she is convinced it was demon-possessed.
OBVIOUSLY somebody like Alistair Crowley had performed a black mass and decapitated a chicken on that very desk, when it was in some little country primary school.

On the way to field service, you are hijacked by an RV full of scantily clad apostate chicks who have beer and space cakes, and vow to make you forget about the WT$.

Interesting question to ask a Witness
by sabastious inif you are ever in a situation where a witness is seemingly interested in what you have to say and believe ask them this question:.
"if what you believed about the witnesses and the watchtower organzation was false and there was no hope of paradise or anything else, would you want to find that out?
or would you like to be kept in blissful ignorance and die believing it was all true.".

Another good thread, Sab. I asked the same thing to my mum. She came back with 'But I'm happy in the troof'. I said what about all your friends who have got really hard lives as JWs, but could jack it in, and make their lives easier, not living in poverty. She said, 'But they're happy, regardless of whether it's the troof'.
At that point, I went outside to slam my head repeatedly in the car door.

Need Help From British Football Fans
by XJW4EVR ini have closely followed the premier league for the last 13 matchdays, and i am getting ready to pick a team that i will not only follow this year but for the foreseeable future.
i am not interested in chelsea, manchester u., manchester city or arsenal.
all four remind me of teams i loathe in american sports (cowboys, yankees, celtics).

West Ham are in free-fall. I think undoubtedly they will go down. I hope they hold on to Avram Grant, I think he's a quality coach. I think next season they'll destroy the championship and get automatic promotion as champions.
This weekend saw some pretty interesting results, eh?
EJW- for gawd's sake don't become a fan of Bolton. You'll regret it.

Is the World really getting worse?
by Nickolas ina fundamental platform of the watchtower bible and tract society, from which its fearsome prognostications are launched, is the inexorable deterioration of the world.
the world is becoming a less and less hospitable place in which to live.
it seems with news of every earthquake, every natural catastrophe, every epidemic, every atrocity, and every disaster manmade or otherwise, there is the inevitable shaking of the finger and stern proclamation, "see?

Nope, I don't believe the world is getting worse. The world is now educated and informed, and healthy. All the things that make for a broken society are being eradicated... ignorance, pestilence, governmental coups etc. This all really only happens in Africa, but we're slowly beginning to help out. I think that living in 11th century europe is probably similar to parts of modern day Africa. The only thing that will really screw things up in the near future is overpopulation. I think many governments will probably have to deal with this by doing sterilizations, and offering incentives to not procreate.
Nobody's mentioned it yet, but if you search out the world geological survey, the incidence of earthquakes is actually lower now than it has been in the past. The Afghan and Iraq wars' bodycount has been much lower than the first and second world wars. I think people aren't so predisposed to be sucker-punched into supporting wars for their religion, or nationalsistc fervour, as opposed to say, 100 years ago. (the millions of church-going youth going to sign up to win the war with the 'Bosch' or 'Krauts', being cheered on by their families and peers, is thankfully a thing of the past).
There is growing sexual equality, religious tolerance, racial tolerance etc, which is down to education, and the growing moral zeitgeist from of all places - TV!
The bottom line is that if you got in a time machine and went back 200 years to live in the good old days, you'd probably be dead by the time you hit 40.
