i've been on this board for just under seven months and i thank all of you who have contributed so generously to my education on things watchtower, and quite a few other things too.
not all of it was on here but it was through this board i've been directed to sites like freeminds and jwfacts.

it seems to me that truth is a strong buzz word and the WTS uses it freely. If an organization insists they have the truth most people are prepared to take their word for it not considering that the whole thing may be a lie.

I have seen a change in how you promote your atheism and you are no where near as militant as when you first joined.
went and saw atlas shrugged part 1 at the rave theater here in little rock friday night.
i was surprised it showed here since it had such a limited showing.. anyway i was really surprised at how well it was done on such a limited budget and a very tight and short schedule to have the whole picture done and it really followed the book very well.
i went to the 7:15 showing and the theater was packed but but not sold out.

sounds quite nietzschean but I don't like the uncompromisingness of John Galt's speech. Mind you I think a book like this is a good antidote to uncompromising religion if one stays alert to not going the other way. I like some of the philosophy Ayn Rand puts in John Galt's mouth

thanks for your comments. I agree that there is lots of good stuff being kept back from rank and file JWs. the leaders are merely power hungry desperately trying to hang onto their positions - beating the slaves to do more.
a look at strongs concordance reveals that pistis that is translated faith is related to peithoo which is translated as persuasion (yielding and trusting are also encapsualted by pistis stemming from peithoo). so to me this suggests that a believer convinces/persuades himself that a new beginning dawns in the love that God expresses in sending his son. Thus any work that a christian does is in self persuasion primarly so that he develops the conviction that this is so.
And even if faith refers to convincing others then surely it is to do with convincing others about christ and grace than about jehovahs witnesses and their organisation.

Is it my imagination or does the word "exercise" not even appear in John 3:16?
it wasn't all that bad.
met a few friends who also don't give too much about it and had some great laughs afterwards.
we talked about how we still remember when only about 7000 took from the emblems and now its more than 11000. we also laughed about how it would look like having jesus and his disciples pass around wine and bread on a plate like that.. all in all it was the same procedure as every year.
just got back myself. the memorial was much better than last year - congregation hired 2 rooms - 275 in attendance - lots of inactive ones, and many non jw relatives showed up.
yes I would care a lot if I were disfellowshipped. But the threat of disfellowshipping does not bother me so much.
i was at work yesterday at the bookstore.. watching a mom and her little boy.... the kid was really really wanting something or other and the mom was drawing the line and telling him "no".. he was having a come-apart over it.
some little book or movie.
to him it was a big deal.. .
I remember as a child wanting my own room now that I am an adult I'm still waiting
