  aussie don't take it personally. I've read terra incognito's post and he/she is in the main critiquing contrarianism as psychopathic and psychotic. Teapartyers and rightwing nuts take contrairanism to extremes as does the WTS (lots they have in common).

  re editing my post: I have a habit of constructing my posts in stages and sometimes use about 5 miniutes to make my points

  America is a great country - I salute it. Its people are great - sixofnine, beks, snowbird and all the american posters of JWN except for neckbeard and his ilk who have their heads so far up their asses that saying some of what they spew is psychotic is an understatement.

  (of course aussie I don't include you here. To me you are an individual who has wandered into an American nightmare of mad people who think freedom of speech enables them to be taken seriously).

  Everything is "Satan" ... Now what?

  firstly, i'm a study who initially believed every word of the jw's.

  figured "no other religion takes the time and effort to help people understand the bible by publishing the watchtower and the other literature" not realizing that all it does is pick and choose scriptures to suit whatever sentence they'd just written, which can be done using any book, not just the bible.

  i felt foolish, after that.. .

  the satan card is being overplayed accross the board - yesterday's watchtower for example - I sat there thinking satan is the main character here and everything else is built arond him. I can only stomach the public talk nowadays but still read the study watchtower to see if there is anything I can input to the meeting - if there is nothing I simply leave early. The pic of satan manipulating the world made me sick to think young children were imbibing this rubbish.

  I have little doubt that i want to stop studying, but i feel bad for wasting someone's time. She might see it that way, but the truth is i believed everything up until i was told to consider taking the next step by going out in the field service. Thats when i researched the religion inside out and was alarmed by what i found. I can't preach to others what i believe to be false. Learning that there's only partial truths to what the future holds, yet i was so comforted by JW teachings, really did a number on me. I said to a relative who is anti-JW "Is Satan pulling a trick on me?" and she replied "No, he's pulling one on them."

  I want to assure you - you have not been wasting her time. she has been able to count you as a bible study, to receive lots of kudos from the congregation regarding you, she has strengthened her own faith in sharing it with you (even if it is only faith in satan's activities - lol, Jehovah has no power these days). You have offered her your friendship, time and hospitiality extendedly.

  Thank her profusely for sharing her faith but emphasize that this is her faith not yours and agree to part company. Tell her you don't want to be part of a religion that talks about satan so much - walk her to the door and say goodbye.

  Your anti jw relative is right.

  A friend of mine was given the persistent treatment in which" the end, satan" etc was emphasized - eventually he had to say "whatever" to everything. The witness finally stopped calling.

  Secondly, after I had been brainwashed into believing that they were God's chosen organization on earth (though the bible makes no mention of organizations) the illusion that i was amongst the most loving people in the world was created. I convinced myself that being with these people was a blessing, blah blah.

  this is an old political trick in history to promote authority in one's own organisation, nation, kingdom etc and to bind your allegiance and sometimes, as with JWs, to own you completely. Great that you can se it is all an illusion. They tell you (and themseves) repeatedly it is a blessing and so it must be a blessing (circular reasoning) and you are not allowed to disagree. Without disagreement there is only stagnation. Brainwashing is a good word

  It is really sad how much JWs prey on people who have social anxiety because for those who have been witnesses for a long time it is much worse when they try to think for themselves and it is a much harder battle to break out of.

  on the six screens tele-network..... former jehovah's witnesses presiding overseer and watchtower historian richard rawe interviews a former jehovah's witness who was involved with the writing department of the watchtower society.. richards guest comes forward and speaks up, he is no longer inhibited or concerned with what the watchtower has to say.

  wait to you find out what he was disfellowshipped for.. it is easy to get on the conference call.

  thanks for the thumbs up re Richard Rowe and ricks shows. I have not listened to them as it does not seem to be available here.

  broken promises, imo from what I have learned on JWN the six screens of the W puts on shows - some are bad some are good. It is all about garnering publicity for the antics of the WTS. Look how much publicity was generated by the johnny show

  I wanted to see the dress and it is beautiful. Then we went back to our bbq and more gardening as it did not rain all day. Lots of noisy street parties around here earlier on but now at 7.30 pm it is uneasily quiet.

  just an update on seismic activity here in christchurch.

  what's below is the seismometer drum for the last 24 hrs .

  it certainly sounds good to hear that those who have left do not have the added burden of JW induced anxieity about the end on top of trying to live with a difficult situation.

  Latest report regarding Christchurch was around 40,000 . . . about 10% of the cities' population. Many have left because of their home being un-livable or job loss rather than fear or panic. I expect more will be forced to on account of the economic impact over the next 12 - 24 months.

  this must be tough and must be what my jw friends were talking about - it was a shock for them.

  I have an anxiety disorder, but I'm still here (for now LOL).

  I bumped into some jw friends who has just returned from new zealand. They only visited the north island and seemed quite worried about the earthquakes and said how anxious people in NZ are. They said that quite a few people had left the South Island. Is this true?
