  Harry seems to have caught the first whiff, so it must be prince phillip who farted - one of those long ong ones too!!! Trust him to lighten a stiff situation.

  i remember giving a talk as a ministerial servant which included this analogy.

  it was supposed to be an illustration of how one changes from the filth of the world to the beauty of being a christian.

  what a wonderful life story. It is so tough when we see the structures, that are supposed to be solid, dissolve like candyfloss. The aftermath is truly death defying. I'm so glad you fought long enough to allow the transformation to take place. I always loved that analogy when it was used in talks and it is nice to see it reclaimed to show how it works to enable one to leave the watchtower.

  i stumbeled across this site after doing some research about earthquakes and "end times".

  i've had a jw comming to my home for quite a while just stopping by, and she finally convinced me to agree to a "bible study".

  i was intoxicated at the time i agreed and i figured it would be better to have a set time for her visits rather then her just showing up at random times.

  Its interesiting to me that people can blindly believe what ever someone else tells them!

  you have touched on a fundamental aspect of Jehovahs witnesses. They cultivate a parent child relationship between each member and the organisation. Dependency and submissiveness are encouraged at each meeting so that when you bring up legitimate anomalies in their theology their loyalty to their parent immediately imposes itself into the space opened up by your questions.

  you have come to the right place kristikay - welcome. Jehovas witnesses are very tenacious people and you allude to this in you opening post in that your bible study conductor has been coming for a while and you are now having a bible study. Charm is another device they use to break down resistance and is quite often irresistible over time. So please be careful as they will try to hook you in by offering you friendships which they will describe as loyal and loving. However Jehovahs witnesses practice very cruel forms of pressures to conform. The worst is ostracism and this is implemented if you disagree with them after you have become part of their group.

  Furthermore they will hook into your desire to make a change in the world by telling you the only way of bringing about change is to preach the good news of the kingdom. In reality you will be preaching the bad news of death to everyone who is not a witness but they will convince you that you are engaging in a life saving activity and that you are special and important for taking part.

  Please don't entertain them any longer - their techniques work as they have been diligently honed.

  it has been said on here for the last few years now, that with the elimination/combination of the book study at the kingdom halls instead of at homes, the introduction of new rule books (keep yourself in god's love) and the new elder manual that a "tightening of the reigns" was beginning.

  and so, just as the members of jwd and the internet have written, so it shall be done by the governing body overlords.

  DoubtingBro, I heard it with my own ears, this new CO named Scott Henry said it plainly that if a person is inactive despite attempts by the BoE to reactivate him/her, then that person's name is deleted from the list of publishers in the Service Group. Plain as could be.

  This has already been put into practice after this CO's visit in this circuit in New England where I'm at now. Quite a few names have disappeared from the list posted on the information board.

  This list will now serve as a reference for JWs not only of who is an "active publisher" but also of who is "good association" and who isn't.

  wow at what is happening at cattails' congregation - I must check our board.

  What is the WT's Motivation? Who Benefits?

  another thing my jw friend says to me when i question the wt is, "what would their motivation be?

  they're so humble and no-one gets paid except a basic living allowance for the workers at bethel.

  they're not like those other rotten 'ministries' whose leaders get paid a lot of money, etc.".

  basically they are focused on performance and success which imo is as motivationally potent as financial gain and related to it. And as ziddinia said there is a strong element of power and prestige that goes with this. The ministry and the meetings are geared towards acheiving and maintaining this. Everyone is made to believe that they benefit but those at the top benefit the most so it makes sense to defend their position whatever it takes.

  Parents are coming to town (straight from a 3 day stay in bethel) Do you have any questions for them?

  ok my parents are coming from mexico.

  my dad is a big name elder over there, being an elder for 40 years and worked in bethel, co, city overseer, and convention overseer for more than 20 years.. you name it.

  and they also did the special pioneer thing (thats when i was born) ... anyway my mom's cousin (who is the head of a service table in bethel) invited them for a 3 day stay in the headquarters.. so they are coming to visit (since my grandpa is very ill)... .

  "our viewpoint may be distorted or limited" par 16 "mosaic law-he(god) did not enforce his own law"wtf.. so the gb/fds will tell us their distorted viewpoint.they say law given to imperfect judges who could not read hearts.yet the gb/fds says they can by their pharisaic laws and rules ie child abuse/shunning/etc.. why did god give the mosaic law if they could not read hearts.oh it was ok for the israelites to kill some people for adultery/murder but not david because they could not read his heart.wtf does it matter if he was sorry and repentent were not the others just as sorry and repentent.. b.

  Contradictions, should we really care?

  i'm not sure if the title is appropriate but i figured i'd point out some contradictions i see in jehovah's witnesses like my wife and i often ask myself why should i care when obviously she does not?

  the motivation to 'fit in' with the people who you believe 'have the truth' is a strong one and facts are rendered powerless since in the end i get asked, "so what do you have that is better?

  " but like morpheous on the movie, the matrix, all i have to offer is the truth.. .

  I care about contradictions but like you I know my mate does not. My conclusion is that some people like living under a theocratic style set up that makes strong assertions about being in the truth and are prepared to ignore contradictions to perpetuate that sort of lifestyle.
