One brother moved into our congregation, and was a COBE in his past congregation. He worked hard on a KH revation project, and he only averaged 7 hrs per month for those three months. The BOE, and CO all recommended him to serve as an elder, but the report came back as denied. The Branch wrote back to request that this brother increase his hrs to 10 a month before qualifying as an Elder again. Nobody had told this real reason to this poor brother. I moved away and thought that this matter was brought to his attention. He moved out of the cong, got to qualify, because the renovation was done, and the new cong appointed him. He spent years angry at the previous congregation, thinking that they weren't agreeable to his qualifications. What a waste of time for this industrious brother.

Brothers who were held back from being elder for stupid reasons?
by toto555 indo you know of any cases where brothers didn't get to be elder for a stupid/bogus reason even though they otherwise qualified?
do you think some/most appointments are politicially motivated?
how much do you think politics plays in the appointment process versus merit?

Paris Jackson
by free2beme ini know it is easy to go there, on this board, and blame the jehovah's witnesses.
but being a dad, i can tell you that being a teenage girl in this day in age is hard.
add to that, having such a famous father in your past with such strange stories attached to him.

Yes, Free.
I agree, this is a crazy world, and Paris must feel like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders. I hope that she can learn to cope as she grows up fast.

GB (Splane) says JW parent should "force" their children
by Gayle into go in "service," "baptism," etc.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsqmosgj710

This is the first time that I've heard it encouraging young baptisms. I never was in favor of this because how can you make such an important life decision at this age. Jesus set the example at being over his 30's. I think that the later teens may be alright time. But, you can't get married in a JW KH unless you are baptised.
The illustration starts at 10 years old, and then skipps to 16 yrs old when the kid is legally able to work at McDonald's. Instead of making a Big Mac, your child is making McService, with McFries. Do you want to Supersize that?

Tech49 on HOURS, TIME, and REPORTS
by Tech49 ini thought i would share some of my observations on counting field service time, reports, etc.
and how those reports are viewed, to those that are still so fixated on numbers.. i served as secretary on the service committee for many years, and have seen it all!.
i was really disheartened when wt changed the requirement for aux pioneering to allow for 30 hrs, instead of the 50 it has been for so long.

Yes that about sums it up, well. That is what I observed serving for over a decade

I think that he is suffering flashbacks from the VietNam war. In the 70's and 80's I always was worried about about Acid flashbacks. Now I worry alot about Acid Reflux.

Due to Ongoing Concern about Dwindling Meeting Attendances, IS THE BOOK STUDY ARRANGEMENT GOING TO BE RE-INSTATED NEXT YEAR?
by steve2 ini have some family and friends still in the organization.
i don't actively seek updates - my lovely contacts provide me with them unsolicited.
so far the updates have been reliable and confirmed sooner or later by subsequent developments.

Yes, Blondie. We still attend 5 meetings, but add Family Worship night, that equalls 6 meetings.
It doesn't matter to me about how they have sliced it, but it's a good point that some hamsterait has mentioned about not dressing up for one.

They told us that the end is getting near, and they didn't want to burdon us anymore. That was of course BS, but, to replace the Book Study again would be denying those statements. The attendance would also suffer, just like it did when it existed.
The old farts who have nothing to do are the only ones that want a reason for another meeting. In their defense, they feel neglected.

Once we had a couple move into our hall with great credentials. They had sons serving at Bethel, pioneering etc. My wife and I thought that they had moved in our cong to fix us up. When he got appointed as an Elder he changed his personality to Mr Hyde. He slammed popular music, dancing, recreation, trips, good jobs with pension plans, and stalked some members in the congregation. I was an Elder during the time that saw his removal. Eventually, true colours appear.

If Noah had family worship night in the ark...what's your excuse!?!?!?!?!?!
by LostGeneration infunny picture in new public watchtower.
evidently there was a digital camera taking pictures about 3,500 years ago.
noah had family worship night in the ark, so all you slackers have no excuse!

Well you see, Noah was a famous man when this happened, there was a Paparozzi photographer that stowed away into the ark. The only printing company that was interested in this picture was the WT. However, there were many theories as to what they were upto in that room.
Some think that since no TV available, they weren't watching Survivor. Some think Noah was telling his family here about his plans to make a vineyard.
