Cult or Religion
by Richard C B inwhat is a cult and what is a religion?
its open to debate.
who has the authority to say for certain what is a cult and what is a religion?

More and more in the professional and scholarly communities, the term "cult" is shied away from as antiquated and derogatory, like a racial slur (think, the "n" word). The preferred terminology is "High Control Groups." Which, if you read any of the literature by the leading authorities, including Hassan et al., WT/JWs do fit the criteria of a High Control Group. -

Child Discipline, new article to address Jackson's Royal Commission testimony
by jwfacts ini have published a new article at watchtower corporal punishment, as a response to the testimony that geoff jackson gave at the royal commission.
it includes the relevant part of the transcript, along with a string of watchtower quotes to show that what he presented was not accurate, and that watchtower translates rod as a literal implement to hit children with.

This is an excellent, well written article. I always appreciate how you provide ample sources to back up the statements. -

JW Sister: raped, pregnant what does she do?, abortion or adoption?
by Olivia Wilde inthis question came out frequently from a situation known to some of us who knew of 2 cases.... if a single or married sister gets rapped by stranger or incest, a pregnancy results, she is not allowed to have an abortion but neither is she allowed to give it up for adoption?...i always question why not up for adoption?...
no you will be blood guilty because the child won't be raised in the "truth"... hmmmmm does anyone heard of that?
is it a matter of consciousness?

Um, I'm pretty sure the sadist borg feels you should keep & raise the child yourself. -

The worst happens.
by Vetro insay, a woman is going in for colon surgery, it is already known by most of her doctors she has several pychiatric illnesses, along with more than several medications for it, it's also obvious she's a bit slow and not very good at understanding concepts, she's a jw baptized, her husband is baptized, used to be a elder and is no longer practicing, the wife refuses blood, but the husband seems anxious, unnerved about this, he realizes something isn't right about the wt, but can't quite break free, he doesn't want her to die if she need something like blood, but can't convince the wife, the rest of her family will be there, all ex witnesses including her children and mother who was a witness, she signs the form refusing blood.
during surgery the worst happens, she starts bleeding, it doesn't stop, it gets bad enough even volume expanders won't keep her barely alive.
will the surgeon just let her die without alert the family what is happening and maybe keep his oath to protect life and perhaps allow a chance at her husband to make a decision to allow a transfusion, or will he just let her die as her deluded wishes dictate and tell the family afterwards?

Hi Vetro. So sorry you are going through this. At the hospitals I've worked in the USA the blood refusal form is easily overturned in the middle of surgery by the next of kin. If the husband and children want her to have the blood and not die while she is under anesthesia, most hospitals here will override the refusal form and give the transfusion with the Advance Directive Designee's or closest relative's consent. -

Most of the books and the Bible are available in ASL video, including all the study brochures. The people in the ASL groups take a tablet to the door and show them. -

JWs and Education
by cognac inmy parents were always of the belief that, "the end is right around the corner".. i was a zealous kid, with a learning disorder, so my parents never gave me a hard time or pushed me in regards to my education.. this not only hurt me, but, pissed me off insanely.
fast forward to me having my own kid.
ava is not doing well in school.

If the school recommends help, they have the best knowledge of these issues. As far as your daughter's feelings, each child is different. You can observe if she feels better or gets burned out. -

And doing God’s will.
by StephaneLaliberte inmy father is still in the truth but keeps in touch with me from time to time.
the other day, he sent me an email about how the generation could be a 120 years like it was for noah.
so, i responded saying that itd be a good thing if it turned out to be true; that he may believe it to be true, as long as he doesnt judge people who dont feel the same way.

:-( Why can't JW parents just be supportive parents, why do they have to act like religious police? Because they're under mind control, and are that out of touch with their authentic self. -

Does Anyone Have Knowledge About Follicular B Cell Lymphoma and Blood Transfusions?
by jamiebowers infrom what i've read, platelet and red blood cell levels are usually severely lowered during traditional treatment for this type of cancer.
is this correct?
and if so, are platelets and red blood cells now part of the watch tower approved fractions?

A simple answer to the OP:
You are correct. During chemo the patient will require multiple transfusions of both packed red cells and platelets (two different products) to combat the side effect of deadly low counts, even if proactively taking erythropoietin & iron supplements.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not accept packed red cells or platelets. JWs dx'd with leukemias and lymphomas must be treated at "bloodless" cancer centers in large city University hospitals, who offer more obscure and/or experimental alternatives and clinical trials. Even then it can be touch and go.
Hemoglobin transfusion is listed as acceptable but its trial has been pulled and is essentially universally unavailable.
