  What was the 2012 convention drama all about?

  with all of the hype surrounding sparlock ... i didn't see anyone post anything about the sunday drama at the convention.. my husband and i decided that we were only going to attend the sunday of the convention.

  we drove down, but got cold feet and we ended up going out for coffee and hitting up the local shopping mall, heading over to the convention for lunch to show our faces, then taking off home for the afternoon.

  it was a good day ;).

  no bible portion, just a stupid, unrealisitic "love story"

  That's a first right?

  Last year they used a 'bible based' story which wasn't actually even in the bible.

  This year, no bible at all.

  There's usually a biblical half of the drama.

  Traditionally it would be a short intro set in modern times, and then 85% of the drama would be a biblical story that was relevant to the issue raised in the beginning. And then a conclusion set in modern times where they all learned a valuable lesson.

  i wonder how jws will react to this recent evidence that intelligent man existed at least 22,000 years before adam and eve arrived on the scene?.

  it looks like membership will continue to decline as far as intelligent jws are concerned.

  i'm sure there will be plenty of society's bottom feeders who will continue to find their way on to the jw publisher lists.

  just came across this post, where a disfellowshipped blogger posted the letter from his witness mother in which she cuts off the relationship between them.

  although i was the one to slam the door and cut off communication with my viper of a mother, my heart goes out to this guy - it's to their shame that the witnesses allow their religion to do this to family..

  Although I've never heard anything in a meeting or article, my elder relatives confirm that they are strongly encouraged by the CO to NEVER be alone with a woman.

  He said the rock art was made with charcoal, so radiocarbon dating could be used to determine its age.

  Umm. Newb question here: what if I dug up some charcoal from a tree that burned down 10,000 years ago and drew on the wall with it? Wouldn't it be carbon dated to 10,000 years ago?

  All of the things!

  Watch movies, read books, play old video games, listen to music + podcasts.

  Google every stupid little question that pops into my head as I think of it. Use the GPS to tell where I am. Take Pictures. Record audio notes in case I forget stuff.

  Once in a blue moon I'll recieve a phone call on it. And I'm not even joking, I rarely use it as a phone.

  this petition is to actively encourage congress to revise usc title 26 501 (and possibly 170) so that all tax exempt organizations must promote freedom of religion and speech to its members and employees.. .

  congress should authorize the irs to promulgate regulations; investigate members, employees, and former members complaints; and enforce legislation.

  an organizations tax exempt status should be suspended for not less than 3 years that does not promote freedom of religion and speech to its members and employees and instead intimidates or coerces them.. .

  the government cannot favor one religion over another

  Change the 'cannot' to 'should not' and I 100% agree.

  But behind most religions is an organization. An organization with leaders, employees, customers, investors, property, and products. All of which can be completely regulated by the government

  What if one party gets in there and decides that any church that speaks against that party loses their tax exemption?

  Again I agree, they shouldn't do that. I don't think anyone here is suggesting that we just give some government group the authority to give and take tax exempt status on whatever grounds they see fit.

  The grounds for removal of tax exempt status are already laid out in the petition and, if we keep our eyes on it, will be laid out in the legislation that is spawned from it.

  And actually the wording of the petition ALREADY makes what you are afraid of impossible.

  : An Organization’s tax exempt status should be suspended for not less than 3 years that does not promote freedom of religion and speech to its members and employees and instead intimidates or coerces them.

  If you don't let your members speak out against a political party, then you would lose your tax exempt status. What you are concerned about is expressly forbidden by the this petition.
