  Interesting experience Pistoff. I too have known people who look down their nose at their successful brothers and sisters yet have no qualms about taking advantage of their generosity. No class is immune to self righteousness. Seems with most fundamental faiths, if you arent living in self indulged misery, youre wasting your life in sin.

  Thecrushed- Its another example of double speak. Claim to be something yet at the same time deny it. It just confuses followers into obedience.

  Jesus said the only requirement was to look after orphans and widows. Its a concept that seems to simplistic and irrelevant to JWs, which is fucked because they are always harping on living a simplistic life. How much simpler can you get than that? Why not apply simplicity to your moral code and lifestyle? Putting the less fortunate ahead of yourselves will ultimately lead to a happier life, not being bombared with petty laws and opinons on ridiculous issues. Thats why I dont consider JWs a christian faith. Its a pharisee-like religion. They try to follow Paul's teachings and ideas, not Jesus.

  Good comments.

  Ive really tried not to blame peoples actions for my decisions in life. But I have to admit it has influenced me thru good decisions and bad. The main point I was trying to make is that the religion completely distracts and prevents people from improving themselves mentally and spiritualy in their lives. The fact the borg harshly disciplines its members makes it a sick cycle of abuse. Yes people are imperfect but the doctrines push weak people into being even worse.

  I think everyone here has heard this as a response to questioning or serious concerns about the religion. I think its a cowardly retort. A flimsy cop-out. Heres why. (Btw this is an espresso fueled rant so forgive the lousy writing)

  Has anyone here ever heard a special needs talk about a real issue? Ive seen children singled out and publicly humiliated for smoking a cigarette, or for touching their girlfriends boobs. Basically JW kids are persecuted for being human adolescents, and yet, Ive never heard a public needs talk about child molesting, and theres been quite a few in the congregations Ive been in.

  There are multitudes of reasons for all of us leaving the organization. Have any of these reasons ever been touched upon in talks or in the literature?

  Take my own personal experience. My father was horribly unbalanced in his raising us in the "truth". To his credit he fully recognizes this and is sorry for it. He has even asked me to blame him and not the religion. A desperate and illogical attempt to get me back in. The thing he doesnt realize is that his behavior is not discouraged by the org, its encouraged. My dad was so paranoid about how we appeared to others. The magazines portray completely unreaching and disturbing ideals for how a true JW family should be. Parents will try to reach these ideals no matter what emotional and traumatic cost it has on their family. In the congregations my father tried to follow the example of head elders in our hall. All of these men have turned out to be complete failures with families that have fallen apart and appear to have no blessing from Jah for their rigid following of JW doctrines. My dad could have been a different person if he had immersed himself around balanced, human people. I can't help but think that if his religion had, at the very least, encouraged him to deal with personal issues, he would have been a happier person. Instead, its all about completely occupying all yours and your families life with fulfilling the demands and bullshit requirements of the cult and paying no heed to the real issues and happiness in your life.

  Yes people are imperfect, but what is the society doing to help?

  This cult doesnt give a shit about its members happiness.

  the june 15 2013 w pg 13, para 6&7 has an experience of a pioneer that needed $66 to pay her rent the next day.

  she prayed and went to work at her job as a waitress.

  when she finished her shift she had received a total of $66 in tips.

  Its because she (supposedly) got the exact amount that she needed that makes this experience seem so divine to JWs. Its only possible that it was from Jah because he provided the exact change! Shes probly had nights where she made alot more. JWs will accept any vague, passed on story of paranormal intervention as a faith strengthening experience. What makes it all the more depressing is how flimsy and lame these experiences are.

  i saw this at the visiting nurse book sale in february and it was too macabre to pass up.. .

  the book is written by ken ham, an australian born, young earth creationist.

  briefly, two children go back in time using the bible as their "time machine" and discover that dinosaurs of the entire mesozoic era coexisted with adam and eve:.

  i havnt visited this site or posted in a long time.

  my fade was going good and i was even able to vent freely without paying the price.

  however i have spoken up to the wrong people and have had to keep a low profile to spare my family the grief of apostacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I am sick to my stomach about how some of my closest friends have reacted to my differing views on their faith. The same people who have been relentlessly let down and abandoned by their religion in their darkest times of need. My only inspiration is how the truth of religious fallacy is spreading like wild fire, at least where i live. Its remarkably disturbing tho how witnesses throw around the word apostate to kill any sensible religious or theological discussion. Its a logical discussion killer in the same way that Bush used terrorist or Mcarthy used communist.

  My Local Congregation are Idiots

  had my semi-annual jw visit and it was the local congregation giving the invitations to the upcoming dc.

  the presentation was the standard 3 second "all the information is inside--goodbye" wastes which this work has become.. .

  just one problem.... the congregation i guess didn't realize that they had to put on the time, date and address themselves!!!!

  my sister just basicaly said the same thing the other day. Which pisses me off cuz i drove 4 hours to go to her assembly and be around her amazing bros and sis. Thats what i get for placating her.
