Congrats Waiting!!
As one of the eldest members here (I am not talking about age...but then again... ) ... it is only appropriate that you achieve this plateau first.
rough calculations indicate that means, on average you make just over 7 posts a day. That is an easy feat ..one good argument...ummm discussion requires at least that many replies.. :)
Or one joke thread contianing 5 jokes in one day, plus 2 replies... piece of cake to get to 3,000 after 14 months of posting.
and "Oh...my...gawd..." she still hasn't used up all her quotes yet!!

just wondering if anyone heard about the letter that was sent out to all congregations whose kh have an apartment attached to it.
the edict from bethel was that these apartments were to be vacated a.s.a.p.
the reason: so retiring do's & co's with no place to go could occupy them.
COs and DOs are part of the now decade old religious Order of Special Full Time Servants and bethelites. As such these individuals are considered as being under the 'vow of poverty'. By providing accommodation for these people in religious buildings (Kingdom halls/Assembly Halls) there is no taxable benefit nor rent..tho I presume these ones would be asked to care for maintenance and give as they are able to....
Often long time servants such as these remain on the list as Special Pioneers and continue to receive their allowance. Or if they so desire can quit and go look for other employment. This has tightened up a bit recently however. But if someone has been in fulltime service since their 20's and are now 70, the Society USUALLY will consider this arrangment.
Kismet - who realizes he sounds like he is defending the Borg but is more concerned with keeping things accurate.
i am going to be at a trial in ritzville, washington.
the town is about an hour southwest from spokane, wa.
i will be there on august 14th, which will be on a tuesday.
Bill:
I still don't see how the Society is involved in this case. In the first post in this thread you said:
It is my understanding wt has taken a personal interest in this case and is working with the child molesters defense attorney to get him off.
I asked for clarification on this earlier as well.
Is there a bethel Lawyer in attendance or working behind the scenes to get this molester off?
I say if there is a bethel paid lawyer there other issues are being raised than just the guilt of the molester. there is nothing in it for the society to defend someone jsut because they are/were a JW. Unless the issue of 'ecclesiatic privilege' is or has the possibility of being raised then I can not see bethel being there. If anything they will want to distance themselves from it.
Hoping this just isn't sensationalism trying to stir people up here but nothing said thusfar convinces me of Society backing in this case.

The mean between two opposing positions is often where truth can be found

Bill:
I support you and all your efforts. Just to clarify, are you saying that a brooklyn lawyer is coming there to represent or co-represent this molester?
that goes against every policy the society has regarding their involvement in court cases.
I would really like to know more.

hi, folks, my wife is taking legal action in alberta against her pedophile stepfather who denied everything (when reappointed a ms), and since made an elder despite "unprovable accusations".. will, the society automatically step in to make a defense just because he's an elder?
we already had this go through all the "proper channels" right to the legal dept.
of canada in 97/98, so this story isn't new to them.
Jim:
This is a very hard time for you and your wife right now. You have my deepest regards and my thoughts are with you both.
The best way to avoid having the Society involved is to avoid bringing religion into the picture.
If you try to bring in elder body testimony the Society will come in and defend the elders from testifying. This does not mean the pedophile elder...just any on the body whom he may have confessed to or any testimony of other victims that was told to the elders.
An as of yet untried legal arguement has been discussed on the board recently. Namely stating that the elders are UNTRAINED clergy thus should not be held in the same category as seminary trained clergy.
If you simply want justice against the injurious assaults committed by this man, keep religion out of it and the Society will have to stay out of it too.
So too, if the stepfather was to try and coerce elders to testify on his behalf based on their private meetings, the Society could be urged to step in and prevent that as well.
My email is [email protected] if you want to discuss this further or post here.

PS - don't be too easily sucked into the various campaigns you hear about here and at other sites. Some are well thought out...others aren't. Some are more into sensationalism. Just do whatt is best for you and your wife. That is more important at this point than anything else.
poor wt after spending all that money on the pedophile's defense.
man convicted of sexual assault without church testimony.
associated press newswires .
I do not know the details of this exact case but having worked in the legal dept I know the standard procedure.
If they followed it, here is what likely transpired:
Victims lawyers contact elders asking for them to testify. they contact brooklyn legal.
Brooklyn Legal sends lawyer a letter citing ecclesiatic privilege. Victim lawyer issues a subpoena to local elders demanding their appearance and testimony. Brooklyn sends one of their Legal eagles to New Hampshire to argue it before the court.
The brooklyn lawyer is not representing the defendant. They are representing the local elders. Any representation of the now convicted offender was done by a private lawyer.
This is the same situation as in child custody cases. The Scoiety lawyers only get involved in the issues of religion. In most cases the Jw parent has to hire private counsel (willing to work with Society of course) to handle issues of support etc.
The local congregation would house the Society legal team and provide meals for them. After the case finished the Society would let the congregation know of the costs nvolved and 'strongly encourage' them to scrape the funds together and donate them to the society.
So while they would not defend the accused they did in essence help the defense team but refusing to testify.
Just trying to keep things accurate.

hi.
i need to find the song star trekking - the funny song from the eighties (in my best singing voice) ...star trekking, across the universe, on the starship enterprise, under captain kirk.... does anyone know where i can find this on the internet?.
shalom (from the computer illiterate class)
Here is a link to the page with the lyrics
=>> http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/6429/trekkin.html
Didn't have time for a full search. Go to www.google.com type in the following in the search field:
"star trekkin" midi(with the quotes!!!)
then try
"star trekkin" wav
One or the other should send you to a site that has the music

11 years at one of the Branches but spent a fair bit of time in Brooklyn as well.
What are you looking to know?
on a the exmormon board i started a topic about fear of the organisation (link below).
'stumped' put up this idea.... in america, founded on freedom, folks are afraid to discuss their church.
it's loterally scary.. anybody wanna take a challenge tostate their name, address, phone number.
Mommy PLEASE edit your post.
There are a lot of freaks and weirdos that lurk on the net. the last thing you want to do is to give out your name and address and phone number.
It just isn't safe to do that. The least of my worries is Brooklyn.
Only cuz I care.
