i was telling him about a chance i have take a paperless stock option.. he encouraged me to put money in a safer investment, so "i would have enough to retire on.
" i told him i started saving around 95, after the generation change watchtower.
There was a Watchtower article in 2000 that encouraged all JWs to start saving for a pension or at least have a retirement plan.
You can't believe how angry that makes me. I went for years without investing in a 401K that was offered, because "the end is so near." Around 1980 I finally started investing and it has been a financial savior, giving us the means to live above the poverty level. If you know which watchtower the poster is referring to, please let me know. Bug

The oil argument is also rubbish. Canada is currently the number one supplier of oil for the US with Venezuela and Mexico coming in number two and three. Saw this on TV the other day, not sure, but I think it was ABC on Sunday morning. Iraq comes in number nine. If you really want to point fingers at someone over oil, take a look at France. They have some billion dollar contracts with Iraq and they are scared to deathe these contracts won't be honored in the event of war. Bug

went to the regional fair with my son and daughter (19 and 17 respectively) tonight.
it was generally a pretty sad showing compared to last year.
the livestock exhibits and other local products like coffee, cocoa and bananas were well represented.
Marcos, you should have come to Dallas. We had a genuine Scotsman among our apostate congregation (Little Toe) and a wanna be Scotsman (Big Tex) who actually looked good in a kilt. Didn't hear any bagpipes, however. Maybe next time. Bug

The purpose of the written word is to communicate. Rocketman's spelling was purposely horrible, but I immediately knew exactly what he was trying to convey. Perhaps the poster was trying to teach us proper grammer, but this isn't a High School English class, thank God for small favors. I think his real goal was to show us his superior knowledge.

i talked to a jw friend in another city yesterday who told me of an ice storm that hit where he lived.
he told me that 70% of the city where he lived was without power friday.
there were tons of trees down in the area including some in his yard.
He should have spent Saturday cleaning up and cutting up trees instead driving around, getting in the way of clean-up efforts.
Just one problem with this statement, undercover. Cutting up trees and cleaning does not sell books and magazines, knocking on doors sells plenty.
However, walking around in the icey conditions you've described can be dangerous, the elderly and women in high heels would really be at risk. But safety seems to be secondary to the WTS, books and mag sales come first. Bug

That is so true. I have served on 4 or 5 jurys in the past few years and have noticed some women seem to be very prone feeling sorry for anyone who happens to be in trouble, and don't bother me with the facts. If you are a defendant in a law suite and most of the population doesn't appreciate your organization in the first place, you don't have the chance of a snow flake in a blast furnace. When the issue is child abuse and those above mentioned women/mothers are on the jury, the defendants had just as well bend over and kiss their a** goodby. Bug
