We already read Crisis of Conscience which was incredible, but if you are Canadian, you need to read Crisis of Allegiance. My husband knows a lot of the players and if you're an ex-Canadian elder you probably will too. He is just riveted and I can't wait to read it next!

Rescuing Our Children: An Exercise
by headisspinning inmy husband and i both have two older children living with our ex spouses - all four have been fully indoctrinated and 3 of the 4 are showing no signs of wavering.. we both want our children to leave the cult as soon as possible but we feel very limited and even powerless to help them.. we are both trying to deprogram ourselves and waves of terror and guilt still wash over both of us although it is getting better with time and distance.. but we sometimes wonder if we could be doing more to rescue the kids.. so, as an exercise to help us get our minds around what we can do to help (even little things) we have a new way we are trying to look at the situation.
i will try to explain:.
basically, instead of thinking in terms of 'religion' we are likening the situation to a family that has decided to eat an alternative diet that centres around complex supplements that we were both raised on and told would allow us to live forever.

Scully: I have my daughter here this weekend and I am going to try to apply what you suggested. I know that she wants to work with animals or be a teacher, so I am really going to be encouraging about both of those things because either way, she will have to go to university.

by headisspinning inthis thought isn't fully formed, but maybe someone can expand on it.... i've been keeping an eye on the situation developing with steven unthank's case against the wt in australia - how they have completely disregarded the law about child abuse registry checks for elders - and it seems to be that they've done the very thing we all lived in fear of doing: bringing reproach on jehovah's name.. they talk about how if jw's engage in wrong conduct they are bringing reproach on god's name, or how satan has heaped reproach on jehovah's name... well, it seems to me they are doing an awfully good job of it themselves.... in addition look at the qualifications for an elder as laid out in 1 timothy... with these words in mind, it seems to me the gb have since disqualified themselves.... 1 timothy 3:1-7 .
1 it is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.
2 an overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,.

My kids are 9 and 15 and the 15 year old has left although his father makes him attend meetings.
My husband's kids are 10 and almost 16.
I have 50/50 custody but have always allowed the kids to make decisions. This includes religion and they have know that always. But my ex has a house and I only have a small apartment.
My husband was blackmailed into giving up custody.
My son (who is 15) stays with his JW dad because they play video games together and they are within walking distance to the school.
My daughter lives there because her JW dad has promised her the entire top floor of the house with ensuite bath... and scared the life out of her that if she lives here she might die at Armaggedon.
My husband's kids are fully, hardcore indoctrinated. He was Congregation Coordinator and indoctrinated them like nobody's business. On top of that, his ex wife has manipulated them beyond belief with the full backing of the elders and Bethel.
My kids have adjusted to the divorce and remarriage because they have been allowed to adjust naturally. His kids have been ruined.

Well, we have the power to make that happen. I mean, it was the initiative of one of our very own board members who got the 'mentally diseased' story to the media and it spread like wildfire. My 9 year old daughter saw the coverage on Yahoo! and showed it to her JW dad and brother and that was here in Canada... Im pretty sure the initial contact with the media started in the UK...
Is there any reason why the same couldn't be done with the story in Australia? Ignoring laws put in place to protect children from sexual predators is a pretty big deal - I think it's worthy of international news because the same laws should be in place in Canada and the US as well. If media picked up the story then the denial of the existence of the Faithful & Discreet Slave could covered off and any active JWs innocently reading the story would be hit with the facts!!!
Anybody feel like taking this on?

I know the film's subject and also her story - she wasn't disfellowshipped for the blood issue but what she went through was ridiculous. She's an awesome girl, very talented and is the youngest of five. Since I lost my sister due to being shunned, I have adopted her as my honorary sister and my son's honorary auntie too :) If you can show your support by attending the showing that would be great!
