Both.
a) The revelation deeply undermines their claim of “God’s Exclusive Earthly Organization”, which the WT leadership would probably - and ironically - sell their souls to keep (since, at its core, it’s the only real incentive left to even be a Jehovah’s Witness), and…
b) …the worse it looks, the more their charity status is placed at risk. Western governments take a dim view of organizations using federal funds to - ultimately - cover up criminal activity (especially if said governments aren’t getting a cut of any profits), or if dealing with the human fallout of said organizations’ actions start to cost more than it’s worth.
The first would cause membership hemorrhage (arguably already happening, if recent convention pics are any indication), which is super-embarrassing and puts the lie to their claims of constant growth.
The second could actually result in insolvency, since - near as we can figure - the Org’s business model is almost completely dependent on its tax-exemption (not to mention that they’d suddenly be on the hook for the property taxes on hundreds of millions worth of real estate).
