Clean is the key. Nothing overpowering, that makes other people's eyes water (for me that would be "tabu" yuck) I like perfume that has florals & citrus, what the gals at Nordstroms refer to as "green." I can't take perfume that knocks you back 10 feet. Same for guys cologne...just about anything BUT...nothing that smells like mouthwash or bug repellent though!

Do they honestly believe they are the "Son of Man?" What authority does any of us have to judge others? At what point is someone, perhaps a householder/potential study, deemed a "goat?" When they say I'm not interested? No thank you? I have my own beliefs and as am committed to them as you are your beliefs?

since we have people from all over the world in here what was the opinion on sisters wearing trousers to the meetings and in field service, in the cong i used to go to it was frowned upon very heavily, although we could find no scriptual basis for it, was anyone allowed to wear them?

Yeah, can't have women "wearing the pants." lol! Funny, I live in an area that has quite a few Apostolic Lutherans (they are UNLIKE any Lutheran denomination I've EVER been around) folks around here call them "Bun-heads." They too have picked a scripture that "supports" their unique practice/grooming standards...the women do not cut their hair...ever...it is their "crown." And makeup...forget it...it's for harlots. I find it all very interesting.

Good point. In trying to understand where my mom is comming from, I've noticed a real picking and choosing from the scriptures. This is especially true about what was written to the first century Christians. I've never understood the logic of adopting certain legalistic practices while ignoring others.

I'd like to learn more about the JW "dress code" myself. I don't get it. My mom quoted me some scripture about it being a sin for a man/woman to dress as the opposite sex. I took that verse to mean deliberately dressing to be "deceptive." I don't know any women that could seriously pass for a man, just because they are wearing pants. Furthermore, most every JW woman I've met, wastes no time in getting out of their JW garb asap, after meetings/service. Is it for the public image only? If not, why don't they wear dresses/skirts 24/7? Keeping up appearances? Is it to appear "professional?" Most career women I know rarely wear dresses and they look both modest and professional. What's the deal?

i ask, because on many of the ex-witness boards i see a lot of mention of what people think others say behind their back.
personally, i hope the witnesses think i am the devil himself and fear me upon sight of me.

Glad to have your input! My mom has mentioned how, "It isn't right to teach children to be violent" I tried to tell her, it can be effective in AVOIDING violence... My kids have several student pledges they must memorize:
1. I will develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that can reduce my mental growth or physical health.
2. I will use self discipline in order to bring out the best in myself and others.
3. I will use common sense before self defense and never be abusive or offensive.
You are so right, in that most people just don't understand what martial arts is really all about. It is as much about discipline as it is anything else. I believe IF you can possibly avoid confrontation, then by all means you should. BUT in the real world that isn't always possible, and if you HAVE to get out of a situation...it doesn't hurt to have some skills!

I have a question...I'm not a JW, so perhaps you could help me understand. My kids are involved with kung fu, they've been going for two years and have actually done very well. Their grandma (my mom) refuses to go watch them at their promotions. She did go one time, to watch (before she was baptized). Since that time, the kids have invited her and she always says she's busy (with the JW schedule that's not to hard to do) However, I can sense her disdain for the whole activity, though she hasn't actually said so. I thought, maybe she thought they were meditating? I explained that so far they have learned only self defense and the forms. What is JW "problem" with martial arts?
