All patriarchal religions are dangerous because they downgrade women.
I look forward to a time when religions no longer exist. People's consciences will guide them in a healthy way, without religion.
Only spirituality shall remain.

i would like to hear people's opinions on intolerant religious groups?
who wins?.
somehow, i have this notion that pentecostals would win 1st place, followed by baptists, followed by jw's.

muslim youth in senegal, africa, encouraged to march in protest against what they considered as "acts of aggression against their faith", burn a kh in the senegalese capital.
the kh was targeted because of jw proselytizing, literature distribution and "handing out crosses".. http://www.jihadwatch.org/2011/06/senegal-imam-making-excuses-for-rampage-against-jehovahs-witnesses-kingdom-hall-caught-in-a-lie.html link contains citations.

Something is not adding up with these stories. Crosses? Alcohol and a bar? Hmmm...
Cult against cult for sure.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=137435607 has another version of the story:
Senegalese Youths Burn Church, Destroy Bar by The Associated Press
DAKAR, Senegal June 27, 2011, 03:34 am ET Hundreds of Muslim protesters descended on a Jehovah's Witness temple and a bar in a conservative Muslim neighborhood of the Senegalese capital on Sunday, setting the buildings on fire in a rare instance of religious extremism in the predominantly Muslim nation.
Thierno Mbeugne, spokesman for the local imam association, said the head imam in the conservative Yoff district of Dakar had asked the youths to march on Sunday against what they considered "acts of aggression against their faith." They were targeting the temple because they claim its members were proselytizing, and the bar because it was selling alcohol.
He said the Islamic religious leaders did not endorse the violence, "but they do think that the youths were right" to destroy the church and the bar.
One of the rioters Mame Faye, 24, explained that the mob set upon the temple while churchgoers were praying inside before setting upon the bar.
Other witnesses, however, said that the hundreds of protesters burst into the establishment and began drinking the cans of beer. They then stripped the building, making off with the refrigerator, the air conditioners and the furniture. Then they set it on fire.
A doctor who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press said his clinic had treated 37 people, including several wounded police officers. One had a stab wound. The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Mbeugne claimed that the head of the temple had been actively trying to convert locals. He said that under the cover of teaching English, she had started handing out crosses and Jehovah's Witness literature.

With both patriarchal religions claiming to be "moderate"...I wonder what is really going on?

to me...the following story exemplifies why freedom of speech is so important.
people should be exposed to differing ideas & beliefs for their own good.. my comment is highlighted below, it's funny, sad & i realize...not representative of most christians.

so, i am getting ready to move across the state.
we bought a home there, and have taken a couple of loads over, with the main move being this next week.
i went over this last week cause i wanted to paint the kitchen and dining room before we moved in (a lot easier to do without grandkids and dogs under foot).. anyway... here i am painting away when there is a knock on the door.
Dear such and such Kingdom Hall. Two women from your organization visited my home today. I was extremely busy painting and told them no thank you, but they continued the conversation. I disagreed with something they said and they called me an apostate. I don't even know what that means or why they would call me names, but could you please advise your followers that if they continue to come to my door and call me names, I will have to notify the police. Should I expect further abuse in my new home?
Good letter!
It seems to me JWs are extremely afraid of us! And why wouldn't they be? Their god teaches FEAR!

Athiests Sue over bus ads on God-free lifestyle
LITTLE ROCK, Ark (Reuters) – A coalition of atheists is accusing Little Rock's city bus line of violating their rights to free speech in a fight to place ads on public buses praising a God-free lifestyle.
The Central Arkansas Coalition of Reason alleged in a lawsuit that the Central Arkansas Transit Authority and its advertising agency are discriminating against the group because they're being required to pay tens of thousands of dollars to put $5,000 worth of ads on 18 buses.
The ads would read: "Are you good without God? Millions are."
Other groups, including churches, have not been required to pay the fee, which amounts to $36,000 in insurance in case of an attack on the buses by angry Christians, according to the lawsuit.
The insurance was requested by the transit agency's advertising firm, On The Move Advertising, officials said.
Because a handful of similar ads had been vandalized in other states, the ad agency required the payment for insurance reasons, said Jess Sweere, an attorney representing the transit authority.
"To my knowledge, OTMA has not requested this in the past because no other advertiser told them their ads were vandalized in other markets," Sweere told Reuters.
Sweere said the transit authority was all set to accept the ads, but that the advertising firm raised the concerns that lead to the insurance requirement. Negotiations were still going on when the lawsuit was filed last week against the transit agency and the ad firm.
"We were planning to run the ads as soon as the contract was worked out," Sweere told Reuters.
An attorney for the ad agency did not return calls seeking comment.
LeeWood Thomas, a spokesman for the atheist group, quoted an email from the advertising agency obtained by the coalition that read: "Arkansas is the buckle of the Bible Belt and I can easily envision zealots or upstanding citizens with a strong faith acting out."
Thomas said it's clear his group is being punished for the actions of others.
"The insurance money needed from us basically says CATA and On The Move trust the atheists in this community more so than the religious, otherwise the churches that advertise would have that extra insurance premium added to their total cost," Thomas said.
The coalition is asking a judge to issue a preliminary injunction forcing the bus company to accept the ads while the suit moves forward.
The transit authority and its advertising agency were served with the lawsuit on Monday. They have 21 days to respond.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Arkansas group by UnitedCoR, a Washington-based national organization that focuses on organizing local atheist and agnostic groups into coalitions and funding their bus and billboard ad campaigns.
UnitedCoR has placed such ads throughout the United States since 2008.
Out of 36 markets where ad campaigns have run, four have been vandalized, including bus ads in Detroit last year, according to UnitedCoR's website.
Last year, UnitedCoR placed ads on outdoor billboards and buses in Fayetteville, Arkansas, without incident.
In 2009, the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers, a group of atheists who are also involved in the bus ad campaign, successfully sued the state of Arkansas to erect a 'Winter Solstice' display on the grounds of the Arkansas State Capitol near a nativity scene.

i have just thought of a way to leave jehovah's witnesses using information from the new shepherd the flock of god book.
it's quite simply: rebaptism.
here are the steps:.
Welcome to the forum, Daniel!
As soon as you express your "doubts" (this is how the elders might see it), you will be watched for having "Apostate leanings" ... Just my two cents.
But, since you have a desire to leave, I send you positive vibes and wish you success and much happiness!

this weekend i found myself again working on my day off, not because i had to i just didn't want to sit at home alone.
when i told my mom on our daily phone call that i was working again over the weekend she told me that she was worried because over the past few months i have been "over working" myself.. when i got home i sat in my apartment alone, tired, and depressed.
i phoned my mother once more and we talked for a long while, and cried together.

Stephanie... Congratulations! This is the happiest piece of news I have read on this forum in such a long time! Yes, you are getting it! Yes, the more we can let go of the JW mindset, the happier and healthier we can be. THAT is the truth! It is time to learn about who you really are.
The JW mindset is steeped in fear and mind-control.
You are very lucky to have your mom to validate what you are experiencing. Sounds like you have a healthy support system in place... and that is key to healing.
It helps to have someone build you up --- until you are in a position to validate your own experiences and build yourself up---and heal!
Love and hugs,

hope this works, i've never posted a link before.
interesting article on religion and personal income, not that any of it comes as much of a surprise.
i apologize if it's already been posted.. http://www.ktxs.com/news/28138610/detail.html.
9 percent of its members have a college or post graduate degree.
Not surprising, since "higher ed" is frowned upon by the jws.

so in the hustle and shuffle of moving i must have left my entire collection literally in the appartment parking lot.
just to give you an idea of what was in there i had about a dozen america and canadian silver dollars, a couple gold coins, a bunch of ancient coins from the 1600s, old canadian paper money and us money and a bunch of coins, stamps, paper currency ive been collecting since i was a kid.. all in all my stuff was worth in the 5-7 thousand dollar range.
believe it or not a young guy in his mid twenties from the appartments across the st came over and asked me if i lost anything and what my name was.
Wonderful story --- and not at all surprising that you got it all back.
There are many kind and caring people in the world, unlike what the jws teach.
