International conventions always had people wearing their national garments to show JWs come from every country and every "land" as they would say. My mom's fondest memories of New York's 1958 convention are related to the colourful costumes delegates wore. My parents were there for 8 days and they didn't speak one word of English...still they were baptized...joining an international brotherhood.

Spanish International Convention in Housont Texas - video
by wannabefree ini came across this video on youtube.. a "special report" obviously made by a jw but seemingly with full support of the convention overseers.. it is long, i haven't watched the full production, what i found interesting is how theatrical they got for these things.
dressing up in blue jeans and cowboy hats, putting on stereotypical (in any other setting jw's would call this being part of the world) cowboy-like personas ... it is quite theatrical and staged .... a bus is brought in led by a "cowboy" leaning out of a golf cart waving his hat like its a roundup, a cowboy greeter gives an obvious big hearty texas handshake ... they take on the appearance of the world when it is fun for them but condemn the average jdub at other times for doing it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ioych9mady.

I used that very line of thought in the ministry when a householder challenged my beliefs using my own bible. I said no other religion shows unity and love for each other...for that reason alone I would never leave...man was I brainwashed and totally blind to the truth when it stood right in front of me.

Welcome and great job on the letter. I may soon need to write something along the same lines...Lately my wife has been bringing salutations from some of the "friends" and elder when she returns from the meetings. I may have reappeared on the radar after being left alone for 4 years.

Reading the Bible Alone "Will Lead you to Apostate Thinkings!" Stay a Watchtowerite!
by BucketShopBill in"from time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of jehovah's people those, who, like the original satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude...they say that it is sufficient to read the bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home.
but, strangely, through such 'bible reading,' they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago.

I asked my JW brother in law which of his neighbors does he want to die at Armageddon? Since none of them are JWs, they will all die. He was quick to respond that Jehovah sees hearts and we can't say who will die or survive. I told him this is the politically correct answer and if he takes time to read his publications he will find in no uncertain terms that the only survivors are those associated with the WT organization. Wasn't baptism associated with Noah's arch and salvation? Blank stare and ackward silence...end of debate.

Would you go to church?
by Coded Logic ini have an unspoken rule that if someone ever invites me to a church - that i haven't been to before - i will go.
even though i'm an atheist i'm still interested in the experiance.
just like i'm not into basketball but i would like to go to a game sometime to feel the energy of the crowd.. growing up as a jw i've never set foot in another church.

I actually find that some of the old buildings are quite beautiful in an architectural way, something I never took time to look at when I was an active JW. As far as attending, I would go to a wedding or funeral...as I did when I was active. I'm not a believer though I almost accepted an invitation to attend a passover celebration at a synagogue in a city I was visiting that night. Funny how I had no desire to go to the memorial at the KH...

Good for you! You may also escape the iPad/tablet craze going on in your neighborhood KH...it's powerful because my 81 year old pioneering mother is asking me for one! One day soon JWs will ask: how could we function in the truth without technology...lol

If my memory serves me right, the stained glass behind the baptismal pool depict a paradise scene similar to those seen in the WT books. There are other murals in the atrium between each door leading in the auditorium but I can't remember what they depict. I have not been in that building for 16 years...but I was involved in its construction and attended the 2 day dedication program.
The picture on the preceeding post is one of the 18 feet tall murals in the glass atrium...the floor is black marble imported from Italy.

9yr old girl kills her gun instructor with an uzi
by EndofMysteries inhttp://www.cnn.com/2014/08/26/us/arizona-girl-fatal-shooting-accident/index.html?hpt=hp_t2.
"a 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally killed her instructor at a shooting range when the weapon recoiled over her shoulder, according to arizona authorities.
another reason to go against those arguing that young children should be taught how to use guns.

This child mind has been messed up forever...not only because she killed someone, but from the moment her parents taught her it's OK to fire guns for fun.
