I used to cut the numbers and paste them on the board. Black digits indicated the publishers met the required quota and red digits meant the congregation was short. In these days publishers were required to do 10 hours, 6 back calls, place 12 mags and conduct one study. That board was at the front of the hall during the week night meeting but it was stored away for the Sunday meeting if I remember well.

I stopped suddenly a few months after telling the elders I no longer wanted to serve in the congregation. My wife continues to go. It took 10 months for the first contact from the congregation to happen in the form of an unannounced visit from 2 elders. I didn't invite them in and told them to leave me alone. It's been 4 years...not a peep from anyone. Only the occasional hello from so and so when my wife returns from her meeting. I think the key is to be directed and firm.

OMG! The world is worse than ever! This system can't last! Violence is increasing! Wait, what's that you say?
by sir82 inif you read jw literature, the world has been progressively getting "worse and worse" since 1914.. is that really the case?.
for a more rational analysis, look here:.

What is truth?
by Heisenberg inwell, i have been lurking on this site for several months and i recently decided to join as a member.
i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.
they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.

Heisenber, welcome!
This site is called JW.net....not muslim or catholic.net so obviously it attract the attention of those involved with the WT cult. The great thing about this site is you don't have to agree with everything others post. As an example, I totally disagree with the previous post from Vanderhoven 7 but at the same time I respect his opinion. I feel no urge to silence him, call him names such as mentally diseased or assume that he supports Satan...do you get my drift? JW is a high control cult that converts people by isolating them from family and friends who are used by Satan when they attempt to hinder their spiritual progress in their "truth". It starts with no longer having time for those outside the cult because the convert will no longer celebrate pagan holidays, then he is busy with studying, attending meetings and eventually preaching...Then the dedication to the organization binds him to obey all rules. Any transgression may result in shunning where he would be isolated from his new "family". In my case, I was raised a JW from the age of 3 and lived faithfully until my early 50s. I served the congregation and had parts at some assemblies. Then I caught the WT lying while doing research in their publications for a public talk. My mother' words resonated in my head: who's the father of the lie? I did more research and found more misquoted secular sources to support WT claims that have since been replaced by new light...I came to the realization that I had been fooled and had no one to turn to without risking to be labeled an apostate. So I kept silent and stopped going to the hall. My wife is still active and the only contact from the "friends" come in the form of salutations through her. My own wife doesn't want to know why I no longer believe...Only a cult can have such a hold on people.
Heisenberg to me all religion are cults but I can only talk about the one that kept me prisoner for most of my life. I have enjoyed 4 years of freedom where I went from existing to living.

2nd and 3rd Genners -- Did the passing of the 1st/2nd Gen. cause doubts for you?
by Apognophos ini can't discuss my family history here in detail while i'm still fading, but suffice to say that i'm a third-generation witness.
my grandparents' generation of witnesses expected the end to come in the middle of the 20th century.
they led spartan lives and largely went without having kids, as they awaited the imminent new system.

My last meeting ever was at the 2010 district convention where I heard the infamous generation talk. The very same morning the WT review was also the article on the overlapping generation. I had found the talk's outline on the Internet several weeks before and knew what to expect. So during the talk I watched the reactions from the folks sitting in the reserved section for the aged and infirm. The applause and the heads bobbing in approval was too much to take. These people were being told that all their sacrifices because the end was close were done in vain...and still none seemed to realize that in a few years they will all be gone only to be replaced by another group of people sitting in their place to listen to the same lies. My dad died 11 years ago and my mother turned 81 and both firmly believed they would enter in the new system alive...the passing of time and the failed expectations would convince a normal person that they have been misled...but brainwashed cult victims can't come to the realization they have been fooled...my mother is still pioneering.

can an unhappy married woman vent?
by sowhatnow ini continue to be saddened by the fact that i am married to such a selfish man.. i want to know if i am the only wife who has no say when it comes to using the house she lives in for activities including other people.. .
let me explain.. yesterday my daugher who is 35 got a new puppy for my grandaughter who is 13. today my daughter and son in law are going to help my uncle at a job, and my granddaughter wanted to spend the day here, my daugher said shed bring her and the puppy over, i laughed and said 'your dad wont have that, ill have to go to your house'.. after all it will 'upset' the 2 cats they will hide all day [like they do anytime someone including my grandchild is in my home] .. i already knew that he would not like it if she brought the puppy over, [weve had dogs so its not like he hates them].
he doesnt care if his grandaughter would have enjoyed playing with the puppy over grandmas house, where she likes to be for a change, and that fact that id like to see what my cats would do when they saw a dog for the first time in thier lives.. maybe id have liked to play with the puppy .. when i said to my husband that my daughter said she wanted tp bring them over he said.

I agree with Terry, especially with point 3...don't allow your husband to treat you like you're worthless - if that's how you feel, get help. Just tell him what you want and what you are going to do...it's your home as much as it is his...you don't need permission. If he doesn't like it so what. I am sure he would not accept being controlled by you...the same goes the other way.

The WT is doing exactly what they acused other religions of doing...building beautiful dwellings using money mostly donated for the preaching work...millions will be spent to settle lawsuits...and they will continue to take from the poor. Andre will sell his only chicken to pay for a light switch in the house of god in America...

Be honest post do all posters on this site believe the bible is 100% or has flaws?
by booker-t inwe in the psychology/sociology field have a saying "when people protest too loud usually they are overcompensating".
i did not understand that when i first started studying psychology but now i understand it completely and it is so true.
when i hear someone constantly bashing something or someone such as gay bashing or ethnic bashing or religion bashing sometimes i wonder what are they hiding.

For 5 decades I defended a book that I believed was the word of god...It was unthinkable for me to challenge what I had been taught by my loving parents and a brotherhood who guided me in the path leading to everlasting life. Even when I read something contradicting my beliefs I was always able to find a counter argument that made sense to me in the pages of the WT publications. Until the day I tried to verify a quote from a secular source that was used by the WT to support their claim of a steep increase in earthquakes since 1914. This particular quote was broken in two parts with (...) in between. From that very moment I started questioning every quotes, quickly realizing that I had been lied to. Quickly I came to realize I could no longer believe in anything I can't prove...including the existence of god. I had figured out the difference between belief and faith, and without faith the bible is only a collection of fables.

One thing that's good about being a witnessi
by dothemath ini went to the mall recently .....omg!
glad i don't have to go through all the craziness over christmas shopping..

I hated and still hate that poor excuse used by the JWs to show how being in the truth spare them from the agravation of Christmas shopping and overspending on gifts. Not one of them considers that most people find pleasure in giving during the holidays...and when they say that they don't have to wait for a holiday to make a gift, how often do they actually do it? Never. Another thing that annoyed me was how they criticize how people support charities more during the holidays, when they should do it all year long...well JWs, when do you ever support food banks or toy drives? Never.
