  I am with you Dark. I remember being asked to prepare presentations for the service meeting and I always had difficulty to find something realistic because in our territory we either had not interested householders or not at home. So most demonstrations were totally fictional. Professionally I can easily replicate dozens of sales situations and how to overcome objections because these are reality in my daily routine.

  These illustrations are conceived so the JWs can visualize their hope but they're meaningless and strange for those outside the cult. Without an explanation a normal person wouldn't be able to figure it out.

  If they are involved the reply from the GB to the rank and file would be that they are being attacked by the authorities controlled by Satan or as Gardians Of Doctrine they're not aware of the financial dealings of the Watch Tower. They don't have to say much to convince the mind controlled JW of their innocence. Like all others involved they would surely use bogus societies and trusts make it difficult to track it back to the WTS.

  GOODBYE my oldest and dearest (JW) FRIEND

  in my book, i wept by the rivers of babylon, i described the process of having a friend, johnny santa cruz, use our friendship as a platform for converting me to a jehovah's witness.. that friendship cost me decades of my life in bondage to a cult.. the friendship was real and johnny and i bonded for life.

  but, the religion eventually turned him into a stone silence toward me--his oldest friend.

  now he is dead and the imaginary reunion and meeting of the minds is no longer a possibility.. this makes his passing a double tragedy.. his memories were my memories.

  Terry,

  I read this sad story on your original post but I had no time to express my deepest sympathies to you. The saddest part though is that it seems the friendship was only one way - you towards him -at least for the last several years. For him the cult was more powerful than his friendship towards you. When you leave the cult you often get to experience for the first time what real, non-conditional friendship is. But while in the cult, this is impossible. After 50+ years I started reconnecting with family members and old friends who have greeted me with open arms, without resentment. I know you would have been there for him because that's what real friends do.

  how in the world did they justify this torture?

  imagine the children forced to sit in the summer heat at yankee stadium for 12 hours a day.

  That's where my parents were baptized and they attended the whole assembly and couldn't speak or understand a single word of English. They drove 350 miles following another car and both cars broke down. My dad was a mechanic and he had to fix the cars on the side of the road. The 8 adults shared 2 motel rooms, some sleeping on the mattress on the floor and on the bed springs. We had a picture of the Yankee Stadium on our living room wall with the theme The Divine Will if I remember correctly, the dates and the attendance of 253,922 delegates.

  300 books and magazines placed outside The Shard

  hi all.. so i got a txt today from a very proud mum claiming that, the jw cart produced 300 book and magazine placements.

  mostly from foreign speakers.. the shard is the tallest building in the uk.

  this is where the cart was placed.. not a bad day they had really.

  I have been watching the cart at a local flee market/outlet shops but I have yet to see anyone take literature or speak to the JWs standing meters away from the cart. It was the same in downtown Toronto last summer where they stood in the busy financial area. Unless they put the literature in the hands of the passers-by I can't see how that experience is possible.

  Did you participate in a Drama?

  i am bringing this up because even it was a lot of work, for the majority of the friends this was a rewarding experience.

  camaraderie, joking, costumes, props and when the time came the celebrity status of being in the drama.. back in the 50s and 60s, conventions could be as long as 8 days and from about 1966 the dramas became an integral part of the program.

  we had one per day and the brothers looked forward to their presentation.

  I was in several dramas and except for one I was always in the modern part. The first drama was live and we rehearsed everyday for weeks. I was also used to record the sound track for a few dramas in which I didn't "act". One year my voice was heard in 2 dramas and I acted in one. It was a lot of fun and I loved the "status" it gave me as I was aspiring for service privileges.

  Malachi welcome.

  Like you I was in for 50+ years and after being out for almost 6 years I came to the realization that I was a JW because that is all I knew. I did it all to please my parents and was taught to listen and obey. Today I no longer believe in anything that requires having faith including God or an afterlife. I am much more at peace with the certainty that I am growing old and will die than having to follow a religion that cannot guarantee salvation.

  My jw friend keeps preaching to me in e-mails

  dear friends this is my first time posting.

  i am not a jw and have never been one but i have a friend who married a jw and converted.

  in spite of the bunk barometer going off in my brain over the years and never responding to her efforts to convert me, she just cannot stop preaching.

  Preaching to you is her only way to stay in touch because JWs usually do not entertain friendships with "wordly" people. You can be friends but only on her terms...
