The real QFR should have read: Why has the number of partaker increased or why are there more partakers now than in 1070? Of course this would draw attention to a situation that most JWs are unaware of or that is burried somewhere in their sub-conscious...

what toys did you all ways want but couldnt have because you were a jw!
by warmasasunned ini was lucky not to be born into the jw's, so i had pretty much every toy i wanted .... actionman (g.i joe) with all the guns, tanks wonderful 2nd world war uniforms, toy soldiers cavalry, indians, cowboys, knights, castles and forts.. six million dollar man, lone ranger and tonto, toy cars matchbox captin scarlett, thunder birds, loads of guns to run around playing war.. great days.
(of course my sisters had dolls and prams, barbies cindys, play make up).
i know having spoken to jws born into it certain toys were of limits for some kids.. a good friend told me how he loved action man and played with them constantly, until one day he came home and saw them all by the door in a. card board box.. when he asked his mum what she was doing.. she told him "do you really think jehovah wants you to play war, you can keep one of them but he cant have any guns and fight people".

Hockey gear...I wanted to play so badly but dad said it would take time away from more important things. Still I would go to the ice pad every day after school armed with my hockey stick and hand me down skates 2 sizes too large and played until dad came home from work. When I started earning money I bought a brand new pair of hockey gloves and some good skates. At 18 I started playing in an industrial league...still playing 38 years later...At 18 I also bought my first motorcycle. I never told dad...just came home with it...he wasn't very happy...but I still ride today, althought what happened to oompa made me think of the risks I am taking everytime I ride...

CoCo,

How should I start a brief conversation with her at the Self Check Out Lane especially when I am busy?
by Iamallcool infew days ago, i went to the grocery store, i was busy scanning my grocery at the self check out lane, then there was a gorgeous lady scanning her stuff beside me and she smiled at me.
i never smiled at her back or say anything to her because i just do not know what to say to her especially when i am busy scanning my grocery.
how should i start a brief conversation with her when i am busy in the self check out lane?

Use the conversation starters from the Reasoning Book or apply suggestions from the TMSchool guide book ahahahaha! Seriously, the training we got at the KHall only served on purpose...recruting members for the cult. Everything else we learn widens the deep trench between us and the "world" to the point where we find it impossible to find common ground in establishing relationships based on anything other than the "truth". Just smile and say Hi and see how she reponds...you may be surprised!

Most Overblown Examples Used at Assemblies
by What Now? inat a recent assembly, there was a talk highlighting the dangers of higher education.
the brother used an example of a young girl who went to university, began going to bars, and ended up getting drugged and gang raped - as if this happens to every young jw who chooses to get higher education.. .
what ridiculous examples have you heard used at meetings or assemblies?.

Vampire,
That reminds me of a brother in my old congregation who left his job as a programmer for a national railway where he had been working for well over 10 years - a job for life - because his wife was afraid he could have an affair with some of the women he worked with. Instead he started working for another brother who had cleaning contracts...we all know the story - small pay for the worker and big profit for the contractor...His wife has serious trust issues and he is still having problems with employment - all he gets are low paying jobs...but he is doing well in the truth being a MS and all.

There was a time when I played all year round, over 80 games. I am a defenseman and my all time favorite player is Raymond Bourque. I will never forget when he raised the Stanley Cup over his head with the Avalanche. 25 years ago I played in an industrial league in Montreal and Bourque's brother played for one of the teams...he looked just like Ray but with a beer belly and he was too good for a beer league.

I hate the Flyers too...but I am a Canadiens fan so I have no love for the Bruins either. I want the Lightning to go all the way and play the Sharks in the finals. Vancouver will have their hands full with the Predators.

Conversation with my JW friend...would like feedback regarding topic.
by the pharmer inthis is a conversation i had via i.m.
with my jw friend.
the topic was brought up because of a trumpet and organ recital i was rehearsing for, and the performance was going to be in a lutheran church (since we were using their nice pipe organ).

A typical witness wouldn't know if it's OK or not until they researched the subjet in WT publications. Then the article would say that the WT can't answer for them but when in doubt one should abstain...or that you wouldn't want to do anything that could stumble your brothers...in the end a true JW wouldn't attend any event in a church of Babylon the Great...I remember sisters driving a long distance to go to Weight Watchers because they wouldn't go to the local chapter because they met in the basement of a church...

I was in HS in the late 60's...big A was coming, so I dropped out of school...who needs a diploma in the new world! All my life I felt I had to work twice as hard as others by fear of losing my job. When it came to talk about my academic record...I was ashamed. Nevertheless, I did very well for myself, working 28 years for the same company - making it from a warehouse worker to training and product manager for a very large consumer electronics company. Today I work for a competitor who has been courting me for a while and I have applied for a promotion where I will have to compete with university graduates. Although I can outperform most of them, I dread the moment when I will have to explain my lack of credentials...to the surprise of many who believe I acquired my public-speaking and managerial skills from a university.

How I Know The Assembly Parts Are Made Up
by lovelylil inwe had a co looking for a certain experience for an assembly part coming up and the elders in my hall at the time sent him to see me, since i usually had good experiences out in field service.. anyway, after speaking with the co, i was sorry to inform him that i did not have an experience that suited the type he needed.
he told me that was o.k.
because he could use me anyway for another part.

In our congregation we had a part on singleness and how some decide not to marry in order to pioneer...a young 18 years old sister was interviewed and cited as an example since she auxilary pioneered once or twice...at that time half of the congregation knew she was engaged to be married. I told the elder who had the part that not only was she not a good example of singleness...she was also ignoring Paul's admonition to marry past the bloom of life. The elder said I was right but there were no other single person who fitted the profile for his part...so he had to be creative!
