  two nights ago it was meeting night for the "believing" members of my familly.

  my wife who is usually the most regular at attending meetings decided to stay home because she wasn't feeling well.

  my unbaptized son and his active wife weren't going either.

  sacdfan: The problem lies in the fact that the friendships they entertain are limited to the kids in the congregation...isolated from all others. I understand that she doesn't miss the "boring" meeting...still this is how kids grow up to be captives of the cult with little chance to figure it out before it becomes painful to leave, finding themselves alone and unprepared for a life on the "outside". It took me 50 years to figure it out! Only today can I realize that the world we live in is wonderful and that there are good people all around. I surely don't want my grand children to wait that long to fully embrace what can be a normal and fulfilling life.

  Two nights ago it was meeting night for the "believing" members of my familly. My wife who is usually the most regular at attending meetings decided to stay home because she wasn't feeling well. My unbaptized son and his active wife weren't going either. Then my 7 year old grand daughter came downstairs wearing her meeting clothes insisting to go to the meeting! When her mom said they weren't going she started crying...and so did I inside. For the first time I realized that the cult is slowing taking over her life even if her parents aren't really doing much in "the truth". A while ago my grand daughter asked me why I wasn't going to the KHall with them...but before I had time to answer her mother told her not to ask. This subject is taboo and except for my son any religious talk is banned from our conversations. But at one point I will have to say something to wake them up from their sleep.

  Anyone have the outline for the 2012 'Special Talk'

  the sunday after every memorial they intruduce a new talk, which is the 'special talk'.. this year it's called: "is it later than you think".

  Social networks a huge no from the service meetings!

  ok so i sort of tie in and listen to the meetings.

  the elders blocked my number lasy fall but then they let me back in???

  not a clue what that was about.. so anywho these last two service parts have been on social networks.

  In the local congregation there are several people including MS who use Facebook to share news items pointing to the proximity of the end...my unbaptized son showed me a UN quote promoting "peace and security"...the Facebook poster said it was a distinct sign of the end...I then showed my son the mission statement on the official UN website...old news brought up to fuel up their dillusion...Except for a long-time friend and one relative, there are no JWs on my FB friends list...and we keep it to small talk and none of the JW talk.

  In my area some "brothers" have a trade - there are several electricians, carpenters and home renovation businesses, IT specialists, prison guard, maintanance and cleaning, auto plant workers, nurses, printing...so the mix is "typical" to our area. Of course some of the pioneers are window cleaners...we have a sister who weigh about 85 lbs who cleans windows...she looks like she is half dead and starving...yet she told he experience at the CA...how great it was to serve Jehovah full time...

  Is it possible to be friends with a devout Jehovah's Witness?

  just wondering if it's possible for a non-religious person like me to be friends with a devout jehovah's witness.

  as i understand they don't like to mix with us lower life forms.

  any thoughts?.

  Even if you were to become a JW you would find that friendship in the organization is like friendship in High School...when you move away you lose all contacts. Your former friends no longer have time to spend with you...they are too busy with their congregation's activities...then so are you...so you make new "friends" by participating in field service and meetings...and the occasional social event. When JWs say they have friends all over, these friends are acquaintances who share the same ideals.

  My brother lives across the street from my old mother and he only sees her at congregational activities...he has no time for her or me because he is kept busy by his duties as an elder.

  Having no "friends" and relatives outside of the JWs makes it hard to leave knowing that all of them will shun you and you will be all alone...

  He's Trying to get me to come back to the fold...by admitting the faults of the Watchtower

  my firend (who is an elder) recently sent the email below trying to get me to come back.

  he freely admits the faults of the wt and even goes on to say that even if they did not have gods holy spirit, he felt they would still have gods blessing as the one true religion.

  i thought i would get your thoughts on this as it really is (sadly) delusional.

  Your friend should consider what the WTS says about other religions' false teaching and doctrinal errors - they are quick to "expose" them as apostates. They minimize the enormous contribution to society made by the churches of "Christendom" such as hospitals, schools and charity organisations to help the poor and needy regardless of their religion and race...and preserving the Bible until today. The WTS brags about their WW preaching work and the goods that come from it... 0.1% of the population qualifying for survival at Armaggedon can hardly be considered as a success...

  i spoke with an elder about university

  he always tells me that i've adopted him as a father...we're pretty close.

  i spoke with him asking for some advice about whether or not to pursue my degree.he, to my surprise, couldn't give me his opinion.he told me that if he tells me how he really feels (he says he has some strong views on the matter) he may be disciplined for 'promoting higher education'....in effect he was telling me to go ahead and pursue my degree but not really saying it.

  he asked me to promise him that i'll speak to the presiding overseer and the circuit overseer....i haven't as yet.

  At the last MS/Elder meeting with the CO I attended it was made clear that elders encouraging ones to pursue superior education would no longer be able to speak to the congregation with freeness of speech and would need to be removed. If the son or daughter of an elder decided to go to college or university, his qualifications would be reviewed. So it is obvious that the elder you confided in cannot openly support your decision without risking his leadership position. Now be very careful about what you tell your "brothers" and "sisters" because anything compromising you confide in them will trigger their conscience to expose you to the elders for that sake of "helping" you remain in the "truth". Since I stopped attending meetings almost 2 years ago, I have kept the few conversations with JWs to small talk and I have only shared my concerns about the "truth" with my still active wife and son...and they understand how my life and theirs would be affected if they revealed what I told them to the elders...so for now they are playing it safe for their sake and mine.

  SMART phones: I got my first iPhone

  for my birthday, my daughter (who works for apple) got me an iphone.. yes, i was using an old motorola flip-phone until now...like a geriatric captain kirk.. and i wondered why people had been giving me those strange looks before.... .

  anyway, imagine my reaction to the mammoth technology contained in an iphone.. talk about a miracle, this qualifies.. i'm particularly impressed by the onboard gps.

  i can type in a destination and the phone already knows exactly where i am and will plot a destination map onscreen.

  Hello Terry,

  Until 3 years ago a phone was just a phone to me too...but now one of the perks I get from work is to use the latest Android smartphones...two weeks ago I got to play the new Samsung Galaxy Note with a 5.3 inch screen...quite larger than the Galaxy S2 I currently use. The note can almost be considered as a small tablet and it has a pen that allows you to write or draw directly to the screen to create digital documents of your notes. While in Las Vegas demonstrating the Note, I would bring up a map of the city, circle a specific location and trace directions to that meeting point. After saving the document, I would share it by e-mail or text message...real cool.

  I know Apple fans are "religiously" faithfull to their iPhones and iPads...and much can be said for Android uses. Both systems have their strenghts, but in the end all that matters is that you are enjoying the advantages provided by these smartphones.
