Being a product of a public education system dominated by liberals (of the teachers that I had in Jr. High and Sr. High, I only remember 2 that I could consider conservative) of 13 when Mr. Reagan was elected president. I remember going to bed the night Reagan was elected praying to Jehovah (crying during my prayer) that Jehoveh would protect us from this war monger.
During my years in Sr.High, I was taught how to hate Reagan and all the evil Republicans for what they did to this country. Although one fact always stood out in my mind. My dad always seemed a little happier on April 15 after Reagan got into office, and we had more money to do things around that time then from when I remember during President Carter's years. We were by NO MEANS rich. My father owned a janitorial business, and what amounts to a catering truck. However, we were comfortable.
After I got out of the mind control of the WTS and liberal teachers. I began to read what Reagan stood for. It made sense to me, and when I registered to vote in 1992, I registered Republican. My main reason for that is not that I was or am rich, but that I want to be one day. That whatever money I earn by working harder than the other guy, I get to keep, not the government. That I decide where I should spend, give or invest that money for the maximum benefit.
President Reagan was a flawed man, no doubt about it. However, when you campare him to his three successors, the shoes he left are noticably empty. This is a man that viewed everyday as the Fourth of July. I have tried to live my life by that motto. That there is something special at the end of every day.

Working the mikes or the sound board.
Assemblies and Conventions....checking out the JW babes (esp. in Amarillo...hot mamas)
Saturday night during the Amarillo conventions dinner at The Big Texan, and then off to the amusement park there.
The final talks of the Conventions (all the "good news" and greetings from other places) I always wondered if that was BS, or these were real greetings form other JW conventions.
Swiss Miss vanilla pudding just slightly frozen and the frozen OJ
Volunteering at the refreshment stands (ie. checking out the babes) Do you think there was a reoccuring theme there?

just watched the news and two 14 year olds have been brought into custody for questioning of the burning of the hall in middleboro....it is burning right now..... the media was interviewing an elder who was let in quickly for some important papers when one of the side walls caved in while the fire fighters were trying to put out the fire.the fire men were sent to hospital for smoke..... i wonder what was the important papers that they needed??.
i have never known fire men to let people into a burning building before.... the whole thing sounds fishy to me....
xjw,
How dare you mock Jehovah in that manner. Maybe tonight as you sleep an angel will strike you dead.

I say, "Burn, baby, burn!"
Seriously, though if this was a synagouge or a "black church" wouldn't it be considered a hate-crime almost automatically?

i know as jw's we always heard this from the platform "do more service, do more study, do more...blah blah blah" and we were never doing enough of course.. i was somewhat suprised by church service this last sunday as the pastor was fairly pointed in telling the congregation that they need to "do more" - only it was in a totally different context and something i have never heard as a jw.
he told the congregation that the major affliction with american christian churches is they are obiese spritiually - that is, overfed and under worked.
he went on to show scripture after scripture where jesus did good works for others and ended the sermon asking that the focus of the church be moved more towards doing good works for our community and charities.
Sounds like you have a great Pastor, Dawn.
If more churches would lend a hand for those that can't do it for themselves, the Gospel would be much easier to present. One thing about that: people can smell disingenousness (sp?). When I lend a hand to a neighbor, it's becasue I want to, and I try not to think of them repaying me by listening to me preach at them.
In fact when I was a lay minister (which most of my building knew) I helped out in so many ways, and never preached to the people I helped in the complex. I am constantly reminded of this didy my pastor would say to me specically, "People don't care how mch ou know, untill they know how much you care."

did you ever get into just doing random underlines and notes and all that on your study wt or books just to look like you?d studied it without ever having even looked at it before?
.
The idea of random underlining never occured to me. It was always easier for me to take ten minutes out of a day (WT study) or 20 minutes (Book Study & WT study) than to get busted with a random underlined mag or book. If that happend then I knew the dreaded "family study" would suck up Saturday night, and I wouldn't be able to do what I wanted to do.
