well, they dumped food service at assemblies, us subscriptions to the watchtower, reduced hard bound book.
distribution and downsized about a thousand bethelites ( over time).
supposedly, dumping subscriptions brought.
Astroworld....what a what place.
I was at the AstroDome for the International Convention that released My Book of Bible Stories. I also remember what a drag it was to leave that place just to go outside.

a friend of mine was approached by a asian family living here in the u.s. that wants to get a family member, a 18 year girl living in the south east asia region here to america.
they want my friend to get married to this girl for a year or two so she can eventually become an american citizen.
the family living here has offered to pay for all expenses; my friends air ticket over there and back along with any other expenses incurred plus a lump sum payment upon her successful immigration here to the u.s. my friend is maybe considering it but he hasn't even seen a picture of the girl yet and he is somewhat older(about 9 year difference) than the girl.. now if they fall in love or consemate the relationship, that's totally up in the air and i guess open to bargaining and my friend would totally be free to get a divorce once the girl gets to the u.s. i did ask some of my friends what they thought, and everyone pretty much said no.
That would depend on what country I want to go into. However, since I was born in the greatest country, in the greatest state, and in the greatest city on Jeeeeeee-hobah's green earth, the girl better be loaded.

as far as contributions go... they now assign your congregation an "area" to sit in, well they are assigned to clean that "area" but if you gotta clean it usually you sit near it.. i just wonder if they do that so they can watch who donates like they do in the KH.( referring to elders in my family who were "watchers" their job was to watch at the meetings to see who was donating.) it may all be touted as being voluntary but dang your freakin scared not to donate. especially the men.. if they dont donate they might be passed up for "privelges"!
What's next the requirement of tithing? The funny thing is that this is a Borg that consistently prided itself on the fact that they never asked for donations (BULLSPIT!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember the letters to buy Furman St.), or pass a collection plate (True, but we'll place the extortion, errrrrrrr, contribution boxes at strategic places).

most meetings i went to, children were brought to the washrooms in the back to be disciplined.
often i could hear a child yell or cry due to the spanking given by the parent.
people in the hall would have that look on their face meaning that it was alright to discipline a child by spanking him.
When my son was a toddler, I was already on the verge of leaving the Borg. When he began to get fussy, I would take him out of the Hell, and what with him till he calmed down. I always got looks of smiling approval from the "older ones". Little did they know, LOL.
When my daughter was born, I went with the ex to the assemblies and conventions to help her out. I loved it. One time my daughter, who takes after me, personality wise, began to throw a fit over something her brother did. I took her out of the Stadium, and walked with her in my arms, talking to her calmly and soothingly to get her to calm down
Now, for those of you that are familiar with Dodger Stadium, I am outside the stadium itself, about 50 ft. from the entrance to the orange level. When here comes this self-righteous attendant, telling me to "Calm your child down, she is disturbing the brothers that came for a spiritual feast. Why don't you paddle her?" To which, I looked at him and said, "You know, I'm not here for the crap you preach. I'm here to help my wife that believes the crap you preach. Why don't you mind your own business before I paddle you?!!!!" He then sniffed, turned on his heel and left. Needless to say I was followed the rest of the day.
I told the ex about this during lunch, and she walked up to that attendant, asked for his supervisor, and reported him. She also told a number of elders that she knew in the Cong. that she attended, that knew her, my dad, and me. At the end of the day that attendant was offering apologies to the ex, my toddler daughter, and me to no end.
Sometimes, having connections are a good thing.

did anyone here ever start a bible study while out in field service?
from scratch, all by themselves?.
i had a couple of studies but never started one from cold.
I never started a BS, thiugh I inherited one form a Pioneer that returned to Bethel. It was with 3 boys, all preteens. I was, I think, a junior in high school at the time. We studied My Book of Bible Stories. Never made much progress, though it looked good on my FS reports. Soon they lost interest, as did I. However, I called on them from time-to-time. For the most part the experience was plesant.
One thing that still nags at me, is the fact that while I was out in L.A. doing my thing in between my junior and senior years of high school. The oldest was murdered at a summer party. When I got back and read about it, I never could bring myself to call on that home ever again, nor look the middle boy in the eyes, as he was a sophomore during senior year.
To this day, I still wonder if I had kept studying with them, that maybe that boy wouldn't be dead.

The issue is not about saving money. The issue is avoiding TAXES!!!!!!!!!!
Having had a father that worked in the food service Dept. for years, and thus being around during the planning meetings. I can tell that when the assemblies and conventions provided food, not the "happy meals" that started in the early-80s, food was how the assembly was paid for. Once the WTS, began to micro manage the food service to get "more economical" my dad said that he wouldn't be suprised if food would eventually be cut out completely (c. 1983-84).

heated exchange at 'fahrenheit'?.
Tal,
So the NRA, huge corporations (such as those Moore exposed on his show TV Nation) and Shrub can't afford to sue him for libel.
First, PRESIDENT BUSH, can not sue for libel since he is a public figure. A simple course in Americen civics would tell you that.
Second, the NRA? Why should they? Moore is not likely to cause any of their members to leave anytime soon.
Third, "huge corporations"? What and forego the axiom, "Any publicity is good publicity?"
I personally, think that the NRA and President Bush, don't really give a rip about Moore and his films. Since Moore's movies are generally aimed at the choir he preaches to, and not a broadbased audience.
One last thing, a movie reviewer, for the L.A. Weekly (alternative, far-left fishwrap) panned the movie as being too high handed in it's appoach. The reviewer basically said that Moore comes of as saying, "Listen to me because I am Micheal Moore."

LABD, I think that's a verrrrry interesting question, especially if you asked it about the Commander in Chief.
Trust me, I have. However, I can't vote for Kerry because of all the other Democrat special interests, that are not to my liking.
Either, way all of us Republican or Democrat are between the Scylla (Sp?) and Charybdis (Sp?)

i am so sick of the "team" mentality on both sides.
for instance, i am a fiscal conservative, right?
but the conservatives in office are spending like drunken sailors.
I read in TIME magazine that FEWER Americans are independent voters this election year than in most recent elections. That is, MORE are loyal Democrats or loyal Republicans, and will mainly vote for their party's candidate.
What issue? I would like to see that for myself.
All the figures I have heard is that roughly 1/3 Democrats, 1/3 Republicans, and 1/3 Independent. In fact I just read this morning in the L.A. Times an article on polling data that supports this point.
