i know of so many jw women that wanted to find a "mate" in the "truth" but instead became "old maids waiting on jehovah"......did you find yourself or know of others that just "waited on jehovah" while nothing got done??

what is the usual age for someone raised as a jw to be baptised?
is the belief that you must be a baptised jw to survive armageddon?
I'm not sure if this has changed or not. But unbaptized ones could be "marked" as bad association. This would usually be done from the platform during the service meeting. I only saw this happen once with the g/f of the TMSO's son, that was "worldly."
He turned himself in after they helped me move to California back in 1986. She eventually studied with my mom, and was baptized. The last I heard neither was active.

has there been any change in who owns the kingdom halls?.
last i knew it was the watchtower who owned them all, but the pubs had to pay the rent and mortgage.
are any or all of the halls in the names of local elders?
Randy,
As best as I recall, the "ownership" of the halls changed from the BOE to the WTS around 1985 or '86. I remember my dad (P.O.) saying something to the effect that this was something new for him (30+ years in the Org.).
My dad seemed to think it was due to the BOE of Cong. in Texas going "apostate," and turning the Hall into a church.

I have seen ages range from 9 - 17.
The issue of Armeggedon survival, and baptism are linked to the Arminian doctrine of "the age of accountability."
This "age" is differrent form person to person, but is generally right around the early to mid teens. Any teen that postpones this, is usually viewed as "bad association."

the other night i was over at my jw parent's house.
my brother-in-law (who is not a jw) and myself started discussing michael moore's movie.
(he brought it up i swear).
I used to think I knew it all. Then I left the JWs and realized I didn't know anything. Some may say I still don't
Seriously, though, this is the condescending attitude that I dislike the most about JWs, and certain Christians. They have some kind of inside info that makes them superior to others.
Makes me sad.

Their love of soc.....errrrr, football. I tried really hard to understand that game, but found that it only ranked above cricket and golf on the tedium scale
Other than that I love my English cousins.

from my observation of walking away from the org eight years ago..it seems..that most xjw's are either fundamental protestants...or on left side as athiests.....so, i was wondering, any xjws here who's christianity is now progressive (non-fundamentalists) in nature?
I don't know what I would qualify as. I hold to very conservative views on essential Christian doctrine. However, on other issues I would not be considered "politically orthodox." Eg. Legalization of prostitution, drugs, and gambling.
If you are against abortion, don't have one (I realize this arguement is weak).
I do not believe that in order to be Christian you must be Republican.
If you are a church, you should be "showing the love of Christ" (eg. Matthew Barnett's church in LA) not buying or building bigger buildings, Eg. Lakewood Church buying an old basketball arena in Houston for $13 million, or another church that purchased the Forum here in L.A.
That pastors' salaries should be reflective of the average income of the parishoners, and that they should have automobiles reflective of the same (not BMWs, Caddies, or "luxury cars").
That politicians (D or R) should not be allowed to speak at churches, period.
That your religious convictions do make up part of who you are, but should be tempered by the fact that this (U.S.) is made up of all types of religious beliefs. Case in point, don't try to foist upon us that some monument that you (Judge Roy Moore) brought in to a courthouse, is some type of historical landmark.
I hate the constant whining, coming from groups like "Focus on the Family" about how America needs "Jeeeee-sus-ah." No, Amrica needs good, quality leadership. Something that has been lacking in this country for over 20, and some might say longer, years.
Basicly, I wished that the Christians, did less belly-aching, and more work in trying to make the communities better. I can think of a number of examples of churches that are doing this.

the recent superstition thread got me to thinking.
growing up i was terrified of "demons".
sometimes when we would have witness gatherings they would start in to "demon" stories.
One man's theory as to why the JWs have such "demon" problems:
Maybe because that is how Satan keeps them in the Borg? By reinforcing the fears taught from the platform, Satan keeps them penned in.
I attend a Pentecostal church. For the last 13 years that I have been there, I have only heard of 1 demon possession story, and it happened to a person that was not part of the church. Compared with a countless multitude during my 20-plus years in the WTS.
