Baseball!!!
by logansrun inahh, spring is in the air!
the newly unveiled grass freed from it's snowy blanket.
the first buds of leaves barely containing their excitement at the beaconing of all the birds of heaven.

Actually, I was thrilled. Kevin Brown is a major A-hole. Though he was very nice to my son on fan appreciation day two seasons ago (my son was resplendant in his Yankee wardrobe...my son a prophet?)
I'm taking over/unders on when Brownie will melt down on the NYC press. May 15. Any takers?
Oh, and one quick change on my picks. AL Central: Kansas City Royals

Ah, yes! Time has begun. Football (American, that is) is over, and it's time for the melodious tones of baseball's best broadcaster, Vin Scully, to echo over the City of Angels. Unfortunately, he'll be broadcasting the Dodgers, and not S. Cal's. best team the Angels(?).
Once the lowly Angels looked up Interstate 5 in longing to be the best organization in baseball. Once it was expected that the best players wanted to play in Blue Heaven (Dodger Stadium). Once this was the place where the best pitchers to hurl horsehide dominated. This was the infield of Garvey, Lopes, Cey and Russell. The outfield of Baker and Monday. Alas, no longer. This once proud organization is a shambles, and looks down Interstate 5 at the Angels, whicah are now the best team in s. Cal.
Ah, screw it. GO DODGER BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fearless predictions: AL West: Angels, AL Central: Twins, AL East: Red Sox, AL Wildcard: Yankees, NL West: Giants (gag) NL Central: Cubs NL East: Philadelphia, NL Wildcard: Houston
World series: Red Sox vs. Cubs. Red Sox in 7 as Billy the goat raises his horned head one last time to foil the Cubs.

DO YOU FIND.......................
by Dansk inthat you are reading a lot more since exiting the borg?.
i've had as many as five books on the go all at once - all of a spiritual nature.
i'm currently reading the wheel of life and death by philip kapleau.. claire takes a book to bed with her every night (something i can't do - i just can't read in bed).. some of you might like fiction or biographies, etc., but i love to read anything on buddhism (although one of my books is by a christian cleric).

Yes, I found that I read much more. I made it a goal to read at least one book a month. The key for me was to read stuff that I would have never read a J-dub. I mostly read non-fiction, but when I dabble into fiction I slide towards Tom Clancy ( love the entire John Ryan series), and alternative history (how about an alternative history of the J-dubs? Like if J.F. Rutherford was thrown out before taking control of the Borg?).

Is this Islam?
by Sirona in.
i'm always willing to give a religion a chance, especially when i don't know much about it.
does this represent islam's view of women?.

I don't know where this posted link came from, but I will post something about Islam from the Quoran, Surah 4:34.
Men are the managers of the affairs of women...those you fear [women] may be rebelious admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them.
So whatever is written there, I would presuppose that the woman would have to do in order to avoid a beating.

Isn't it interesting that the Hollywood elite (an interesting oxy-moron) are planning on black balling Mel Gibson? Aren't these the same people that bitched and whined about Sen. Joe McCarthy and the HUAC black lists? Interesting, that indeed perhaps David Limbaugh has a point in his book titled Persecuted.

I remember the days when actual meals were cooked for the disctrict conventions and circuit assemblies. My dad was working in the "spanish" kitchen (I guess there was no such thing as Mexican food back in the early 70s at Dodger Stadium) when I was a pre-schooler.
I remember the change to the large rotating ovens that the Society kept at WT Farms and then rolled them out to the various District Convention sites during the summer. My dad was in charge of the cooking of the food at the Conventions in Amarillo, TX for a time. Then he was put in charge of a refreshment stand.
I do recall the quality of food diminishing as the Society began to take more and more control over it. Similar to the quality of the talks as the Society disallowed the elders to create their own outlines to public talks. I digress however.
I never got food poisoning from assembly food, though my grandmother did, and she never ate at a convention or assembly again. I remember driving to pick up food for her. I could leave ten minutes prior to the end of the morning session for that. YIPPEEE!
Favorite assembly food: Swiss Miss chocolate or vanilla pudding.
Despised assembly food: Hoagie.
