  A roaring current of change.... Is The Watchtower in the process of a major overhaul of their religion?

  a roaring current of change..... what is going on at the world headquarters of jehovah's witnesses?

  in the last couple of years unprecedented changes in policy, procedure, and doctrine have been coming forth in rapid fire sequence.

  this uninterrupted episode of new information is beginning to backfire for the rank and file witnesses.

  They are happy as witnesses and I do not think they will leave, regardless of any changes.

  If they're happy, what's it matter to anyone else?

  Demonstrations From the Platform

  good evening, all.... still relatively new here so if i'm posting about a topic that's already been run into the ground, i apologize.

  but i just wanted to acknowledge the typical "demo" we all see at meetings, assemblies and conventions.

  even back when i was a good-goody teen dub, my brother, friends and i would jokingly refer to demos as "5-minute illustrations on how to say 'no.'".

  The real turn offs were the ones you knew were fabricated. Always the elder's kid who is either a "windshield pioneer" who gets 75 hours of their 85 pioneer hours driving from end of the territory to the other and back................or he's a "double lifer" who is up there and going off like Ricky Righteous. Every other kid in the audience is silently laughing their ass off knowing it's all a crock of sh!t.

  Song- "we're Jehovah's Witnesses" in honor of this weeks WT study

  this was the last song of the service meeting this week.

  the new version sounds like a death march anthem.

  the melody has changed and i think the words have also.. i truly used to like that song and it was one of the first song's i could sing as a kid.

  Are Conventions a profitable venue for the Society or do they cost them money?

  I cannot think of any expenses to host a convention beyond the rent & utilities for the facility. And in this economy, many city/county owned convention facilities may be negotiating the rental fee to bring hotel business to the community. If any certain convention center does not cooperate, they just hold an extra convention nearby and ask the R&F to drive a little further.

  this week's congregation bible study focuses on chapter 18 of the come be my follower book.

  paragraph 8 was a real gem, as well as the comments from the audience when going over that paragraph.

  i'll type paragraphs 8 and 9 for you to read along with the ensuing questions.. 8. jesus was granted still more autority in 1914. in that year he was appointed as king of jehovah's messianic kingdom.

  I'm thinking to myself, so Jesus is ruling invisibly and hasn't exactly gone out of his way to announce his rulership.......but the nations are at fault for not recognizing this?

  Jesus obviously needs a new PR firm, as the current one is not getting him enough publicity.

  Elder Missing 24 hours...

  a brother i know of was made up as an elder only some mere 6 weeks ago.

  out the blue he has gone total awol and has now been missing over 24 hours.

  i wonder if the stress of becoming an elder at 27 yrs old got to him !!!

  It is so unfair to shove that upon someone who it only 27 years old!

  Esp because all of the older burnouts will shove all the crap stuff on him. At least until he learns to say NO, or until he snaps, which would be unusual to happen so soon just 6 weeks after appointment. But he was already loaded down.

  If there were two witnesses to testify against you, they may have conducted the JC in abstentia and made the decision to disfellowship you. If they went this route however, they would have supposedly notified you verbally and advised you of your right to appeal the decision within 7 days. Since evidently you were not contacted, I would suspect that the official stance is that you have disassociated yourself by your actions or statements in your letter--you have made clear that you do not want to continue any association with Jehovahs Witnesses. No JC, no 7 days, etc. Thus, if an announcement was made to the cong it was "Hoggieman is no longer one of JWs." Yes it's the same announcement either way.

  Can you sue? Sure. Anybody can sue anybody else. Can you afford the lawyer? Even if you can, is it worth it? If you sue on the basis that they had no right to "harrass" you after you had already made clear that they were to leave you alone, will the court/jury agree that the announcement (if there was one) constitutes harrassment? Did it go beyond the religion's 1st amendment protection? If so, do you have any damages? What were they? How much is that worth?

  If you win, WT will supply legal counsel and see that this kind of anomaly is appealed, even though they will not want to be a party to the suit. Can you afford the lawyer to go through the appeal? Maybe you could get lucky and the ACLU would take your side on it. But maybe they'd take the WT's side. If you win, it's going to become a serious 1st Amendment case and there would be lots of players wanting to be involved, most all against your position.

  NOT a lawyer here, so maybe someone who is will comment. Band On The Run?

  Witnesses at my door today

  so, i've been waiting for them to do the *rounds* here for a while.

  and they finally turned up.. i lead the discussion towards holy spirt and personal relationship with god.

  (personal relationship with god is really about interacting with the father, jesus & the spirit, not just the spirit - but i think emphasising spirit is a simple way to get across my point) i was curious about whether or not they had one.

  had a quick look at the april km - they are having (yet) another invitation campaign to the convention.

  slight twist though , in that any invitations not used are to be taken to the convention & used in informal witnessing.. traditional "convention reminders" insert - usual stuff about "jehovah arranging the program" , get early to the stadium , tip restaurant staff , don't make a scene at hotel reception desks if they have messed up your booking , no peeing in the hotel pool etc.

  And you can bet every single convention will have "an experience" on Sunday afternoon about someone who...........

  ........turned down a scholarship at a prestigeous university (for which they did not apply) but still were offered a job earning 3000Euro/MO but could not accept if they were to continue to pioneer...... Hopefully someone will assist them with money to purchase gasoline for the trip home.
