Hi, boys and girls,
I see you all have been having fun. Can I come in and play in your sand box?
Like Yeru, I really don't care what other people think of us. The survey does not tell us anything new. We have known this for a very long time.
I also don't care to know much about other countries either, unless I get the chance to visit one, and then I will educate myself about said country. Hell, I don't even care about what happens in the next state over from me, which is as big as some countries, again unless I plan to spend considerable time in said state.
If I want to hear criticisms of my country, I will listen to George Carlin and Dennis Miller, two bright American comedians who know of what they speak.
What do I think of the people of other countries? In most cases, I couldn't comment, because I know little or nothing about them. The exception is the French. I have met a few of them in my country and I don't like them. So, if they don't like me and my kind, well, it is mutual. Oh, one other exception. I do like Canadians. I have met them and liked them. -

Teejay,
I do not consider my comment to you as an ad hominem, but as an inference, just like your comment that you like me, but you like Zazu better. That was a conclusion on your part based on information, and most people I know would agree with you. So, my conclusion about you is similiar to your statement about the difference between my wife and I - based on qualitative information, which can not be supported by quotes, because quotes are useless in this kind of discussion. -

Teejay,
First off, let me say that I like you, as I think you know. We have shared many phone conversations and e-mails. With that said, I think you are way off base on this one. I think you have a hostility towards people who reach any kind of prominence, and I think this clouds your judgement. I don't think there are any Cults here. I like AlanF, Kent, Norm, Amazing, Farkel, Ray Franz, Jim Penton, and, by they way, you. That does not make me a cult follower of anyone. It makes me a friend of some really good people. So, Teejay, just shut the fork up. You are looking silly with your rant. -

As a loyal JW, what made you to start doubting the Watchtower ???
by run dont walk ini'm sure all of us were loyal at one time to the watchtower, believing in all of it.
(some of us probaly hated it from day one as well but, ).
what were some of the first things that happened or were said, that made you to start doubting it and beginning the loss of your loyalty to the organization ??????.

I left before the internet and before many books were written. What did it for me was reading the early writings of Russell and Rutherford, especially the old Great Pyramid doctrine. The religion way back then was far different from what I was taught. That shook me up. I took me seven years to leave after my initial shock.

A sense of history and time
by larc init is easy to forget the amount of time between events, until you compare it to your own life and those of your parents and grandparents.
for example, russell founded the religion in 1879, and predicted the end of the world in 1914. that was 35 years into the future.
the religion was 50 years old.

It is easy to forget the amount of time between events, until you compare it to your own life and those of your parents and grandparents.
For example, Russell founded the religion in 1879, and predicted the end of the world in 1914. That was 35 years into the future. Think about your own life and how long 35 years is.
My mother's aunts became Witnesses in the 1920's. The religion was 50 years old. Think about 50 years compared to how long you have lived.
My mother became a Witness in 1942. The religion was 63 years old by that time. Think of 63 years in terms of your life.
My mother's aunts are dead. My mother is dead, and I am 62. In 1959, I told my JW buddies, that I was going to college. That was 80 years after the start of the religion. My friends told me that Armageddon would be here before I graduated from college. These former friends are grand parents now, and some are soon to be great grandparents.
When you put history into literal terms, as I have just done, it gives a better picture of what is going on here. -

Myself,
Thank you so much for the compliment. It really does make me very sad, when I see people here, hurt each other. I am especially sad, when the two contenders in a battle are two people that I especially like. -

Teejay,
Do you ever have mixed feelings about being ambivalent? Well, that's how I feel right now. You and I got off to a rough start here, and initially we did not like each other. Farkel and I got off to different start. At first, I avoided any confrontation with him, because I soon realized that he was a bit "edgy". Later, I gave him some modest support during his hour of need. Recently, he has given me and my wife emotional support during our time of trouble. Recently, I called him and spilled my guts. He took the time to talk to me even though it was his birthday, unbeknownst to me, and he had friends visiting.
So, Teejay, I am ambivalent because I do like both you and Farkel. I think that both of you have made very important contributions to this board. Like anyone, we are only as good as our last contribution. I have made most of mine in several essays, and I really don't have much more to add, if anything.
You may have noted, that I don't write much here anymore. I have said what I have to say, and I don't comment much on content anymore, because I am out of content to offer. I do comment on interpersonal issues, from time to time, as I am doing now.
While we all have different personalities, talents, and interests, we all have a common bond, and of course, we know what that is. So, I hope that we can keep in mind our common bond, and not allow our differences to disrupt our time with each other. You know, as JWs, we were pretty much cooky cutter people. We all talked the same and thought the same. While it is comforting to live in such a sheltered world, it was also very stifling. I hope that in our freedom we can learn to appreciate, tolerate, and enjoy our diversity. -

Today, my son came over and woke me up. He wanted me and my wife to come to his house for lasagna and stuff. We went there to meet his wife's father for the first time, plus many of my son's neighbors. It was also a celebration of my grand son's second birthday.
Tomorrow, my son is taking me to a baseball game.
So, yes, I like father's day, and the one today is one of the best that I have experienced. -

Hey hetro guys, when you where in your teens and the girls tits started sprouting, do you really have a choice as to whether you lusted after them or not ???? Come on now. You got a stiffy and no one had to teach you how, did they? Mom and Dad had no effect on your erection.
