Borgfree,
What is your point? The particular rock does not have the same composition of other rocks on our planet. It has the same composition as rocks on Mars. Could it have come from some place far away from us in another solar system? Well, I suppose so, but it is not likely. Odds are, that it came from Mars.
Sometimes, science is a matter of estimating the odds of a particular conclusion. While this method is not always correct, it is right more often than it is wrong, something you can not say for any religion or any religious book, when they address questions related to the natural world.

Many Christians Preachers at war with Natural Science
by D wiltshire ini consider myself a christian and i think christian preachers who spout off against evolution and claim they are doing it to stay loyal to gods word.
are doing a disservice to the, christian witness to a scientifically knowledgeable generation.
christians should be knowledgeable about this subject before they openly call persons who have scholarship in these subjects, as incorrect.

Wassa,
Thank you for mentioning my favorite, Rocky and Bullwinkle, along with Dudley Do Right, I might add. The very best.
Now, in the Bug's Bunnie tradition and era, I like Fog Horn Leg Horn, the rooster with a southern accent. -

What is a generation?
by larc ini think we all know about the changing definiition of "generation" by the watchtower society.
i thought i would highlight history in terms of generations.
my great grandfather was born in 1850. that would make him 29 when russell started his religion.

Hey bigboi,
All young fogeys become old fogeys some day. It beats the alternative, ie, death.
Jan and I are doing relatively well. I am going to get her fine quality kitchen knives sharped with no fear of being stabbed to death in my sleep. Hey, what else can you ask for in a marriage than that?
Regarding the generation thing, I think it is good to make things literal and real, as I did on this subject. Too many young, eager, and zealous JWs have no sense of time. They seem to think that they are the first ones to go through the excitement of the end of the world prediction. -

Borgfree,
There are millions of facts that have been accumulated that support the theory of evolution. Whether there is a God involved in this, or not, is another question.
There is no proof whatsoever, for the concept of special creation. Basicly, special creation posits that "God did it." And there is no need for further proof. Special creation is a theory with no way of proving it right or wrong. It is simply specualation, and not open to proof or disproof. -

I thought I would highlight history in terms of generations. My great grandfather was born in 1850. That would make him 29 when Russell started his religion. My grandfather was born in 1885, six years after Russell started the religion. My father was born in 1919, five years after the failed prophecy of 1914. I was born in 1940, 61 years after the religion began. My son was born in 1968, seven years before the 1975 prediction. My grand daughter was born in 1990, just five years before the the last change in the definition of "generation.". So, there have been seven generations in my family since the religion began.
Well, the JWs call it one generation. I call it seven generations. -

Do you believe in God now?

Craig,
I agree with your disagreement of my statement. We do have to believe what we believe, but still keep an open mind. -

Craig,
While you and I are polar opposites in our beliefs, I respect you and your gentlemanly response to my comments.
May God be with you. (If he is there.) -

Craig,
Of course this subject has been discussed by great minds over the ages, and great minds have come to different conclusions. Some great minds like Thomas Aquinas and Saint Augustine believed in God. However, there equally intelligent men who did not believe, like Bertrum Russell.
So where does that leave us? Nowhere really. I don't chose to believe and you do. I can't prove there is no God, and you can't prove there is one.
Oh, and don't bring science into the subject. Science has nothing to say about the existence of God, or the nonexistence of God. -

Do You Struggle With Depression???
by minimus ini know more persons that are depressed than i know that are not.
whether a person was a witness or not, so many are affected with depression.
i've read here that many jw's were on either regular medication or silently accepted their depression with much prayer and tears.

I don't know how many of you saw it, but I did a survey regarding, depression, anxiety, and low self esteem before and after being a Witness. I had about 80 people respond to it. About 70% had one or more of these conditions while a Witness. The number dropped to 30% since leaving. That is a huge difference.
So, I have to conclude that these symptoms are both situational and nonsituational in nature. I think that if you have a tendency towards depression, the religion makes the problem worse.
