Yes, 1995 was a major turning point in recent times. It must be noted, however, that there have been such points in history since the religion was founded back in 1879. "Our founder" believed that Christians would go to heaven in just two years. If you can find one, read The Time Is At Hand, by Charles Taze R.. Very interesting indeed.

Hi all
by AJN ini was a jw about 15 years ago and have been reading these forums for a while.
it took a long time to get over the fear of armageddon for sure.
my 18 year old is still a jw (we live at opposit ends of the world) and i have found your information really useful as i am preparing some kind of telephone 'presentation', as it were, regarding jw beliefs and the difference between jw and the other christian churches and what the message of jesus was.

she seems to struggle a bit with the material we're covering in class, and it comes pretty easy to me.

Well Dan, I have read all of the comments and much of it is good advice. I would like to add my thoughts. Many have advised you to be your self. Now, if you have problems with that because you are dealing with a pretty woman, I would suggest that you talk to her like you do your guy friends. No, I don't mean that you should discuss Ohio State football or a plumbing problem at your house. What I mean is that you talk to her like she is a real person, not a set of nice tits. As you well know, I spent an afternoon at your house and I know that you are a good talker. So, you needn't worry about that. As they say, just be yourself. You have a good mind. Now, if you could sell Watchtowers, which have much customer resistence, I am sure that you can sell yourself. Another thing, there are two kinds of hotties. There are those who don't know they are hotties and have their own insecurities, just like you. The other type of hottie, knows they are hot. You do not want to have anything to do with this type of hottie. You will find out soon, the category within which she belongs. Now regarding your first date. I would not ask her for one yet. As I understand it, you have helped her with her math home work. I would continue to do this for awhile. It will give you both a chance to know each other, and it will give time to understand how brilliant you are. Now regarding appearance. She is a hottie, and you don't think you are. I remember a long time ago the Theocratic Ministry School Servent in his public talk on marriage said the following, "men are attracted to what they see; women are attracted to what they hear." Talk to her sympatheticly, but most importantly, listen to her and care about what she says.

I have a hard time blaming the Watchtower
by spiritwalker in" if the watchtower said it, and the men on the platform preached it, then it must have been true.
so it was very hard to accept as an adult, that they were wrong.
i blame myself.

PS, I was raised as a Witness. As a child, I did not see that there were any other options that made any sense. It was not until I was a young adult that I did any intellectual investigation. Even with that, it took me about seven years to go from total belief to total disbelief. My sister never left the religion and feels badly that I did. The only difference I see between the two of us, is that I more intellectualy adventuresome than she is. She, however, does not consider herself a victum at all, but rather, seems to be comfortable in her situation. Perhaps, a person only feels like they have been a victum after their entire wold view changes and they can look back on the experience. Do I consider myself to be a victum? No, but I have been out for 40 years. I am not sure how I would answer the question the first year out, and I got into a discussion like this. That was a long time ago.

Dan, I would suggest that you roast a chicken in the oven. I realize that a chicken is more than one person can eat at a meal. However, the left overs make wonderful sandwiches. Now, I sautee onions and garlic and put them in the chicken's cavity. After the chicken is done, I put the onion and garlic mixture into the sour cream for my baked potato. I love this meal.

News Update
by Amazing ini have been away for a couple of weeks, distracted by legal, work and health issues.
it all came down at a time when i am trying to get some things done regarding the jw child abuse issues.. added to my heart disease is disbetes ... cool ... in addition to not having fats, cholestrol, caffiene, cigarettes and sodium ... now i have to cut out carbs, sugar, coke, and take more medicine.
my diet is reduced to a thin piece of clear fibre paper every other night, forty pills, and purified water.

Jim, My wife sent you an e-mail regarding some resources that may be of help to you. One thing is very important. Get stress out of your life. It will shoot your sugar level through the roof. I think you should give up helping others for awhile, including the victims of child abuse. You need to take care of yourself, first and foremost. You can't help others if you are dead. I wish you well, my friend.

The Over-Commercialization of Christmas
by SanFranciscoJim inis anyone else on here as disgusted as i am that right after halloween we are assaulted with an unending barrage of television commercials advertising christmas this and christmas that?.
when i was a kid, it was unthinkable to advertise anything about christmas before thanksgiving.. nowadays, these smiley-faced rosy-cheeked actors are hawking their christmas wares to the point where it has become nauseating!
it's easy to read between the lines -- what they're really saying is: (on their knees with hands clasped) "please, please buy our products!

Waiting, for some reason, I can only post for the first thirty minutes here, then I can't access, but only read existing posts. Yepper, I'll get Jan a nice gift and help with the tree and the cooking. (Kroger's has a good deal on a precooked turke dinner - hee, hee.) Jim, I know what you mean about cars. I have never been influenced by the ads, and buy what suits my needs at the time - usually a used car.

I think Budweiser and Miller Lite are overly commercialized, but that does not stop me from enjoying the experience. I feel the same way about Christmas. I pay scant attention to the commercials, and do what I want regarding Christmas. The advertisers are wasting their money on me.

Stronger or weaker
by Paradise Found inhas yourjehovahs witness experience made ypur belief in god stronger or weaker?.
my attitude to god and religon no longer plays an active part in my life.
what i mean by not playing an active part is that i never prayer for help when in trouble or understanding as to lifes purpose and a personal relationhip with god.. maybe because iam scared to take the risk my prayers might not be answered and i d be disillusioned.although if things go right i dont mind saying "thankyou" i will never say "please".

Swan, I agree with you. I have no belief in God, but I do believe in Swans. I also believe in Tammys. (Can I pray to both Swan and Tammy, if you don't mind?)
