Well my favorite of all the afore mentioned is Bob Dylan, but I wouldn't call him a band. I think his very best was Dylan at Budacon (sp?) saw the same concert in Dayton before it was recorded in Japan. This past summer I saw a Cinnicannati Reds game and a Beach Boy concert afterwards for $15. Saw the Spinners for free at a local park and spent big bucks to see Tina Turner. What a woman. At 62 still moving like young kid.
As Dylan said, "Look out kid there's somethin you did, God knows when but you're doin it again." Have you ever heard his song, "It's all right ma, I'm only bleadin." Not to cheerful, but profound.

well guys sorry i haven't participated much lately, i've been really busy.
but, i do have a question that i would really appreciate all of your input on.. it is no secret that young people are leaving jws faster and faster.
it is no secret that most jws are disappointed, and hurt by lack of prophecy fulfillment.. so here's what i was thinking: i'm going to post some very personal thoughts on what *i* think they need to do in order to stop the loss of almost 50,000 disfellowshipped and probably 4x that to inactivity.
I think they should do the following:
1. Drop the blood issue. The problem is that many would leave who made or saw others make sacrifices of their own children.
2. Drop their stupid dating rules and give young people a chance to learn about each other before being thrust into marriage.
3. Get rid of the elder system and find some better method of governance.
4. Start observing the Sabbath. Those people are worked harder than the Jewish slaves in Egypt, and need a day off each week.
5. Not only allow, but encourage education, then someday they could have thier own private schools, from kindergarden through college.
By the way, I liked your suggestions above. I don't think, however, they will follow your second suggestion. I think that open dissent would cause the whole thing to crumble.

Some things you wrote brought back some memories. I think the JWs used to be a kinder religion. I left before the elder system and back then the local governance was strict, but not as harse as I read about here. Also, they didn't have the stupid dating rule: only ask someone for a date if you want to marry them, a reallly stupid rule put in place by very old men who are out of touch with reality. At one time smoking was not an issue. Rutherford smoked the finest cigars he could get his hands on. When Knorr came in, smoking was frowned upon, but there was no punishment. My mother and father smoked and when they made it a dissfellowshipping offense, try as they might they couldn't quit. Although a real shame for them, it was a blessing for me, because once they were out, they could talk to me again.
Well, I can only remain serious for brief periods, so, Lovepeaceharmony, I have to get a little silly. You said that what you do wouldn't prompt others to do it. Well, let me tell you, after reading your post, I ran right out and bought a pack of cigarettes, came home and put beer on my cheerios, and followed that with several Beam and cokes. Actually, it was a pretty nice morning.:):)

Thank you for your scriptural support, with Gen. 1: 3 and 4 about the light and not the heavy. Now, I have discovered another important scripture. This very important scripture is just before the one you quoted. It is important becaues it proves beyond question that it is all right to watch and even play baseball. This indisputable fact is part of the new light and a new addition to our growing religious heritage. In Gen. 1:1 it says, "In the Big Inning." Break out the brewskies and enjoy.
I still haven't got to my sermon on luve and and respect, but I will soon.
