I am left curious as who was left to foot the bill for all the cleaning supplies. Yes it was rent free to the WTBS, but at what cost for the people who were there cleaning?
I might be totally off - but I am curious.

Tell us about your Profile Pic
by Beck_Melbourne injust wondering about some of the profile pics...i think its nice to know a bit about the person you want us see, or the person you don't want us to see.
so what were you thinking when the pic was taken, how long ago, and where were you?
mine was taken last month, just after my 36th birthday.

What TV shows were you told not to watch as a JW ???
by run dont walk invictorian sky has a great thread on music.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/57646/1.ashx.
it got me thinking, about tv shows, anything in particular you were told not to watch, being a little kid in the 70's i do remember hearing shows from the platform that we should not watch.

I was only really allowed to watch what my parents thought was safe - which was the stuff THEY grew up on and knew about. So I watched a lot of I Love Lucy, The Twilight Zone, The Honeymooners and older movies like The Wizard of Oz. Which reminds me, there was a family I knew of that was not allowed to watch Wizard of Oz cause there was a witch in it.
I did not even see The Goonies till I was in my 20's.
I used to sneak on the TV and watch Rainbow Brite cartoon when I was a little girl and just LOVE it. We did watch The Fall Guy, Dukes of Hazzard, A Team, Air Wolf, Bob Newhart - I think that is because my parents liked those shows.

If JWs Come To Your Door How Will You React?
by minimus inwould you engage them in conversation?
would you be home but hiding?
would you let them have it?

They come very regularly to our door. My husband thinks its funny and likes to answer the door and tell them that his wife used to be married to a JW that beat her.

Music-related jw urban myths
by rebel8 ini was researching a few....whew...did they ever bother to *think for themselves* or did they just believe every demon-related rumor they heard?

I remember growing up in the 90's and listening to Led Zepplin and my "super holy " JW best friend heard the rumor that if you listened to it backwards it talked about Satan. We only had tapes and CD's so there for no way for us to verify - but it did not stop her from competely freaking out. I still have the memory of her running outside and ripping the tape out of the cassette and destoying her copy while sobbing tears.
I heard the John Denver rumors also, but because my parents were Led Zepplin and John Denver fans, I never saw much reaction for those rumors.
Everything is base on fear.

What Did You Not Do Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness That You Wanted To Do?
by minimus ini didn't go to college and of course, "higher education" was never recommended.
still, i never felt terribly deprived because of not going further in my education.. yet, i did wish that i could've had "normal" aka "worldly friends".
i wish that as witnesses, we could've been better integrated with other people.

I would have dated - which was not allowed until you were "marriage - able" age" since the only reason to date was to get married. I also would have loved to be on the dance/cheer team in school. I was good at sports and would have liked to be on a team while in school.
I wanted to wear a skirt that was not below my knees. I wanted to get a birthday card. I wanted to sleep in on a Saturday morning and not go out in service - I think JW kids are the ONLY people happy to be sick on a Saturday morning - so they did not have to go in service - its hard enough being a teenager - now take the pimple faced teenager, put them in an ankle length skirt with religious materials in their hands and force them to approach strangers and start a conversation about how the world is gonna end !!!
I think I was just venting at the end there....but you get the idea.

Throw out that debasing music, you sheeple!
by undercover inhot off the presses!
the august awake!
with an article on music.

I was not even allowed to have a radio in my room until I was well into high school because my mom and dad did not trust me to listen to the right music.
This article only tells me that the WTS does not trust their members to make choices for themselves.

Dating after Divorcing a JW...
by RagingBull inany experiences/advice on dating (moving on) after a separation or divorce from a jw?.
i know that when (not if) i leave the org, my wife will probably separate then divorce me (and we have 3 small children).
i only know of horror stories when it comes to that type of scenario.

After my divorce from my JW husband (drug dealer and wife abuser) - I quit going to meetings cold turkey and met a wonderful man. He is NOT JW, is a cop, treats me wonderfully and I love him with my whole heart. It is possible.
AND my JW parents LOVE him ! I think they see how happy he has made me and since he is so sincere, its opened their eyes that not all "worldly" people are bad.

Did you ever shun someone close? How did you feel?
by jean-luc picard inhow does a jw feel when he "has" to shun someone he likes/loves?.
during the time i was in, i shunned people.
but as i didn't like them, it was no problem.. but now, i'm trying to understand how my family might really feel.. (i presume here, of course, that they do "like/love me".).

I did. And feel horrible about it now - but at the time I thought I was doing what was right. It scares to me think I was able to "turn off" my feelings for that person so easily. But now when I look back - it makes sense since JW's are very conditional about the love they give. The irony is that they think they are exactly the opposite.
I have true friends now....and it took some time to realise that my old friends and their conditional love was not worth it. I do not even miss them anymore - I realise it was all fake friendship anyway.
