Just to let those of you who were concerned about Nute that she's doing fine. She and I talked on the phone today and all is well. She was emotional and did not want her story posted here. It just got to her is all.

She isn't looking for sympathy or anything like that. She also did not see most of the crappy negative heartless posts that were posted on that link, which Simon kindly removed. Thanks Simon.

As a matter of fact Nute is a long ways from being a needy person. While I was talking to her, she was more concerned about my son and his life as a JW. She's a really decent person and anyone who will get to know her will find this out.

I on the other hand am a jerk.

my teenage son approached my husband and me yesterday to inform us that he wants to get baptized at the summer convention.

ugh!.

he hasn't shown an interest in witness things for several months until a cousin from up north came to visit and took him out in service all day.

My only thought would be to suggest that he should be an adult before making such a serious commitment. How about being at an age where it's ok to be married? At least out of his teens.

expatbrit there ya go. I agree completly. To be honest it makes sense to me that the main board would be a place to meet and talk about general things. There are boards already in place where the deep thinkers wouldn't be subjected to us shallow thinkers.

i hope that they will be treated with respect and shown some consideration!.

if someone doesn't believe their story then i don't believe they should cast doubt on the person or attack them as i doubt they have all the facts.. i am extremely dissappointed to think that someone could come to the forum for support and be shot down like this.

Simon I suppose many members come to a site like this looking for support. Of course they won't always receive it. I agree with you on what you say though. Basically it's like mom always said, if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all.

Teehay a "sob story" is just that. Someone is pouring out their heart. If you don't believe it, fine, I just think beating someone up because they are having a tough time doesn't make any sense. Then to turn around and blast the society for cruelty just doesn't make any sense either. I mean lets try to do better than they have.

Disassociating==shunning...yes or no???

i have had several here tell me that if try to disassociate yourself from the org that you will be subject to shunning.

is this true?.

i discussed this issue with the witnesses with whom i study.

Oh sadie you are being lied to on this one. I studied with an elder. I asked him, if at some point in time I wanted to quit, could I do that. He told me that I could, it was no big deal. But after getting baptised I thought I wanted to DA myself. The same elder said I would be treated the same as though I were DFed. He even had society literature for me to read. I can't recall which article he referred me to though.

hi all,.

all my experience is that once a jw begins to question the organization, a irreversible progression sets in that leads inexorably to a total disaffection with the organization that no amount of ``shepherding'' can change.. so my question to you all is: can we document one single case in which a disgruntled ex-jw was successfully reactivated/restored to loyal dubdom?

(my impression is that the efficacy of elders' ``shepherding calls'' is a myth, a total waste of time).

I certainly don't have personal experience with that. When I stopped attending I never got a single shepherding call. Instead they all went up to my wife and just asked her what my problem was. Why had I forsaken the truth and turned my back on Jehovah.

Eventually that drove her away too.

I Don't Sympathise With Suicides

let me explain.. firstly i have seen any number of so-called attempted suicides.

i've walked past an old girl friends house, seen her watching tv through the window, by the time i'm knocking on the door she's told me that she had her head in the gas oven and my knock stopped her.. my mother in law walks into the sea for a pastime.

every time she can't get her own way she walks in up to her knees and waits for someone to see her.

why are so many of us hung up on the fact that we are disfellowshiped or disassociated .... this crazy organization that we all use to belong to is nothing more then a human board game like monopoly and these old guys (angels in the flesh) make up the rules as time goe's on, it brings chills down my back when i recall how my father would say "the faithfull and discreet slave" as if these guys are stuck away in some most holy room in bethel in the very presence of god in order to uptate his world wide organization of a new or revised rule.

being df myself means just about as much to me as the rule that who ever lands on free parking gets all the money ... all it is is a rule that a bunch of old guys (now dead) agreed on years back.

as we have seen the society has changed it's tune about a lot of stuff .... would it really surprise any of us if they decided for what ever twisted selfesh reasons to change their policys on this issue of ousting members.

I'm with you Nute. As far as I'm concerned this board is a wonderful support group. Not being the deep thinker like some of our "brain trust" is prevents me from appreciating the finer aspects of being an apostate. But I certainly can understand a persons feelings. Especially when they are hurting.

I got some great support here from the fluff posters. I was having troubles with my son and they really gave me great advice. Hopefully someday I'll be able to return that favor.

But I've enjoyed chatting with you Nute. Stick around.
