i was at the congregation bible study recently (aka "book study") which has been expounding in depth regarding the 1st century's unbelievable resemblance, in organizational terms, to our modern-day governing body and how big decisions are made now.

I am HUGELY anti-circ. My boys are both intact and so is my husband. Interestingly, my stand on circumcision came about when my little brother was born in 1989 (I was almost 12) and no doc would cut. I'm still unsure of the reasons, but whatever. One less mutilation is a good thing. So whether my husband had been for or against is irrelevent to me because I would never put my child through such a cruel & barbaric practice. It was nice to have support, though. My in laws are also anti-circ (my bro in law had been circ'd against their wishes when he was born).

Anyway, I really like this particular thread on the topic. I'm so used to reading it from the viewpoint of moms for and moms against and it just turnes into a stupid argument.

its in page 25 of the 2/15/12 wt study edition (i read the dumbed down version).. .

if there was any question, that the watchtowers stance is for wives to simply take it when their husbands abuse them, this makes it crystal clear.. who the hell is scanning these things before they go to print?

I completely flipped my shit when I saw this. Totally freaked out.

I'm on day 8 of a freaking migraine, so I'm not functioning well at the moment, but I will be looking into making this available to local domestic violence shelters as well as National agencies and seeing what happens. This is NOT ok. THIS SHIT is why my mother stayed.

I have to walk away form this for the moment because, if I don't, I will lose it.

a few years ago my 21 yr old firstborn and only son died in an accident.

i was an active jw at the time.

in fact , i was at the meeting when it happened.

When I miscarried my daughter on the weekend of Hurricane Katrina (catastrophic devastation, for those who may be unaware), Aug 2005, one "sister" said, "Well, at least you still have your house." Another asked me, "Do you know what killed the baby? Stress. I bet it was stress." WTF?!

When my aunt (nonJW) shot herself in July 2007, my husband (who I love dearly) was just so ..... uncaring and, frankly, assholey, about it all. No concept whatsoever about what I was going through. I was in the grocery store that day when I got the call and I called him and told him, "Babe, I can't do this. I need you to come get me." He called me no less than 3 times to complain that he couldn't get the kids to cooperate and put their shoes on so he could leave. We lived a mile from the grocery store. It should have taken him only minutes to be there for me. When I'd grieve some weeks later, he tried to come in and get me to get over it. Very irritating. Ok, I'm clearly still pissed about that.

I need black & brown boots for winter. Black & Brown flip flops for summer. DRESSY flip flops. Casual boots. Dressy boots. Sneakers. Open toe. Close toe. Ballet flats. Heels. Those are my basics. I also need colors... And different styles work with different outfits.

Every shoe has a purpose.

Weird things JWs can't own or wear

also posted on the yuku forum.. i thought it might be amusing to make a list of things i remember when i was a dub that we couldn't have or own or wear.

(some of these things vary by where you live, in other places dubs have them, it just depends).

obviously the list goes on forever, but feel free to add things.

Yup, LilBlu is right (we grew up in neighboring congs). Ohhhhh, the JOY I got from wearing flip flops to the memorial one year! LOL (I was pregnant and didn't give a damn. It's all about comfort, baby.)

Hi Blue! Nice to meet another Aspie. :) My son is 11 and also has Asperger's. He is diagnosed, I am not, but I have all the signs of it. (I'm looking into how to get a diagnosis. I only know of docs who diagnose children, not adults, so it's been a little bit tricky.)

I don't talk much on here, but I read a lot.

I agree w/ the others.... read the books they've suggested. And read a lot of the posts here. I've found them to be VERY informative.

Creepy Talks

do any of you remeber any talks that were creepy in nature.for example i remember a talk where a brother said "when the end comes your friends and family will be against you" now if that is not crazy i don't know what is.i remember alot of talks regarding bible prophecy and the end times.all of this did not help reinforce the sense of fear since it was 2007-2008 and the united states was going through a recession.this just proved to be fuel for their talks.give good experiences of any talks that you have had that proved to be either weird or very creepy..

but when they end like that three times....it's strike three... or maybe it was strike #3,333,333.......but it is sad and painful for us both i know.....a person must be in a very very bad place to act like that in front a man you have loved and been intimate with for 15 years....and at that moment i am satan in front of her....a begging pleading attempting to reason satan...but still satan to her and her friends.....but this nice woman needs satan out of her life now....oompa.

i am not a bad person...i am not satan...i asked her why she thought i had tried so hard....told her that if she was in a burning building just how hard would she think i would try to get her out??

she did not like that analogy either...so i have started the painful process...the building is going to burn to the ground now....and i will never put her through that fingers in ears thing again.... and i will be fair and reasonable....and pay her the alimony and give her half....i could so be a satan to her in divorce....but i won't!...i can at least prove to them all that i am decent man...and not mentally diseased or satan.....and ahhhhh i feel good about that....plus both my boys are free now...

When I read the title, I envisioned my mother, who would do the EXACT same thing and she'd have tears and be acting like she was soooooo persecuted. Hysterically funny but colossaly irritating at the same time.

What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?

i've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".

the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

Writing letters to another brother out of state when I was 16 (my parents didn't even let us talk on the phone).

Skirts too short (always at or just barely above my knee).

Breastfeeding. No joke. My daughter was in cradle position, NOT nursing at the KH for a good 6 mos, and some dumbass elder decided I needed to not be nursing her in the auditorium. I was in tears. He also said other friends have complained. BULL SHIT. Also, I told him, through tears, "You know, by law, you are not allowed to talk to me about this." He said, "Well, let's not bring the law into it." Freaking assclown.

Parenting. Same elder decided that we were too lenient w/ our autistic toddler.

Parenting again. According to another congregation's elders, we were not lenient enough w/ the same child.

For saying that onions make me throw up while prepping lunch at a KH remodel. Nobody was there besides the food service crew (3 others people, incl my own mother) except some blow hard elder who was just taking a break. He decided to tell me A FEW TIMES not to say that during the actual food service. Idiot, wtf? Really? Who would discuss somethign involving vomit during ACTUAL lunch service?? The lunch line hadn't even started yet.

Not mine, but my brothers' experience: Same blowhard elder elder counseled my brothers HARDCORE..... They had each gotten blonde highlights in their hair and this elder had a major issue with it. It was agreed that my brothers would be spoken to at some point in the near future about their hair. Right as the WT was starting, the blowhard elder took the mics from them both and said, "You can't do mics because of your hair." That caused the BIGGEST stink in that congregation that I've ever known.

If sisters can dye and highlight their hair, why is a young man highlighting his any different???
