its just not supposed to be like this.
i just put my jw husband on a plane to san fran so he can spend the entire holiday week out there, get this, dog sitting his nonjw brothers shitzus while he goes to visit family for christmas.
i told him i was going to miss him...and he replied, well "i wont miss christmas".
I really can feel your pain. I am sorry your family is going through such turmoil because of this god awful religion.
I also was alone with my three children for years. I have no family near me either. What I started to do is make my own traditions with my kids. I had them bake cookies with me, decorate the tree with Xmas music playing and on Xmas eve I had them pick one gift to open. Even though I was dying inside I never showed my children. To this day we now still do these traditions I established six years ago and all they remember is how fun it was. It really does become easier as time goes bye. DO NOT LET THAT STUPID RELIGION TAKE AWAY YOUR MEMORIES WITH YOUR KIDS!!!!! They someday will thank you for standing up against those hurtful doctrines. Include your hubby where you can and do the best to let the rest go. You will be happier and so will he. Just my thoughts. I am thinking of you all.

they don't trust - for good reason.
they have dysfunctional relationships - for good reason.
but all victims need professional help.
You certainly do not want to open Pandora's box without having individuals trained to deal with the aftermath. If you do you will hurt the survivor even though people sincerely want to help. In almost all professional setting there are two trained facilitators present to make sure that no one is being trumatized by the experience. This way if someone needs to leave the group one facilitator can leave with this person and the other can stay. Also with two one can watch the dynamics of the group process while one is focusing on who is speaking.
Same with responding to the hospital ER's. You would never send anyone that is not trained!!!!!! Same goes for answering a hotline. Again you would never have anyone that has not been trained in dealing with sexual abuse issues. You can do more harm than good for the survivor. In NYS no one responds or answers hotlines withour going through the department of health trainings. Certainly angencies could be held liable if they did not train their staff.
I have seen through the years many survivors reach out to other survivors and only hurt one another. Especially if the survivors have not dealt with their own issues. Listening to others experiences can be a flashback to a survivor. This is why in our business, as you pointed out Lady the second hand truma or vicarious trumatization is devastating to a counselor. This is also the reason that there is such a high burn out rate of individuals in our business.
Personally I would never send someone to respond to an ER and send them back again without going through somekind of critical incident stress debriefing. Same with those that answer a 24 hr hotline for long periods of time. I personally feel that peer support, such as this board and others are vital for some...but they need to be in conjunction with professional counseling. And again a good counselor that has experience in dealing with sexual abuse issues. Just my two cents.

'tis the season to be jolly!
how's this last weekend before xmas going?
if you're like most people, you've not had a moment to stop and think!
I would have to say 14, 4 & 5 in that order. I also like baking Xmas cookies. Merry Christmas to all!!! I hope everyone here gets to share it with the ones they love.

this was inspired by the story freedom96 posted earlier.
i was in foster care and was placed there right before halloween.
i celebrated my first halloween, and thanksgiving.
Dear Jessika I am so glad you were picked from the angel tree program. I am the director of emergency services for the Salvation Army. Yesterday I finished the angel tree program. We gave out toys, clothes etc to 1,800 children. Also gave Xmas dinner to over 700 families. For those that do not know the angel tree program is sponsored by the Salvation Army. After being a JW for many years I am so priviledged to work for them and experience what is truly giving. Every angel tree child gets what is purchased for them..if they do not get what they want we add to their bag so they do receive what they need. It is all sponsored by the red kettle campaign. So PLEASE don't always walk past the volunteers that stand in the cold ringing the bells. Thanks to all that give to others. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!

my mom raised us as witnesses, and finally left the wts after we grew up and left the house.
my dad left after too.
now my mom is so sorry about it all, and how we had to live, with my father an elder, the strictness, and of course all the things that a good witness family could not do.. how many of you raised your kids as witnesses?
I raised my three girls as JW's until six years ago. They are now 21, 18 and 15. My 15 year old told me the other day that she was glad that I left because she would never have experienced growing up and making decisions. All three of my girls think the JW's are a cult, but all three are well adjusted independent strong young women. Two in college and the youngest a sophmore in HS. Thank God that I got them out when I did. Their father is a JW elder that has nothing whatsoever to do with anyone of them. For that I am thankful!!!!!!

my surgery is over and i am home.
the doctor said that she has never seen anybody recover as quickly as i am.
i am sure that all your prayers and well wishes are the reason why i am doing so well.
Glad to hear that you are recovering so quickly. You must be in good health. Take it easy so that you heal completely. Wecome back!!!

this is about running the forum:.
it's a balancing act.
it is impossible to please everyone all the time and i don't go out of my way to try to please anyone ... i just do what i think is right.. some good examples are controversial topics: if i lock or delete something that is controversial then i am accused of "stiffling free speech".
Personally I think you do a great job. What Jim was saying was offensive and distrubing. I have no problem with debate, but it really was not debate it was hate. Seems like the old JW mentality to me. Believe what I believe or you are wrong. When you get to the point of using racial slurs then it is appropiate for someone to step in. You did the right thing in my opinion.

my last attempts at posting were to no avail so i'm just going to test this out first and they edit and post something else.-it worked.. i have been reading a lot of the material on this website and find most of it interesting.
i'm still a witness but have some questions about bible/doctrine that haven't been answered to my satisfaction.
it seems that when i discuss things with people (i.e witness elders) they more or less don't listen to my arguements.
Welcome Kril and Bootsie;
Leaving the religion is only a decision that you can make. Everyone here is supportive of whatever you are comfortable with. Just keep coming back!!
