i got to wondering how you feel things have improved or not on a personal basis for you compared to last year.
have you got further in any goals you have set for yourself?
are you happier/less happier etc?
Crumpet, you asked why I liked my job, and what did I do. I have worked for The Salvation Army for over 13 years. 9 of them running a Domestic Violence shelter. My education is in counseling. Then for 3 years I ran their Emergency Financial Assistance Programs and Disaster Services. Now I am the Divisional Director of Disaster Services for all of New York State except NYC. I took the job mainly due to the fact it is completely different then anything that I have ever done, and after working with survivors of 9-11, the hurricanes etc wanted to reach out in this capacity. Also, if you looks at the faces you see representing FEMA etc very few are women. That also was a large factor in my decision to take this job. I wanted to make sure there was a path for young woman if they were interested in mostly a male dominated field. If you are interested google my name and you will read alittle about me. Believe it or not it lists me as an ex-JW.

yesterday (sunday) we went to our daughters church for family service as they have these at the end of each term for the kids club (sunday school) and if you don't know about my beliefs that i don't have any and i am one not wanting to have anything to do with any religion.. anyway there are a few things that caught my attention during this service as i normally tune out but they were talking about how jesus was telling a parragul (sp?
) about sowing the seeds and then it all came flooding back of the memories about how the jw used this, and you know it was strange as this church was saying things almost identical to what the jw would say.. this is not what i was wanting to mention but i thought this was interesting.. so after all the service they have a morning tea for everyone afterward and i got talking to the minister/father/pastor (don't know what the head person called) wife and the subject come about christmas and i told her that this was not as important as when jesus died and that he wasn't even born on 25th december she was taken back that he was not born on this day as i told her he was born earlier in the year and i explained how this is the reason, she was gob smacked!.
i thought this was common knowledge so i wonder if she will go back to her husband and ask questions if this is true.. so i ask the question is it common knowledge that jesus was not born on this day and it is a pagan holiday or is it a jw thing.
I think it was already mentioned, but if you want your child to have a diverse education in religion and a sense of belonging without just the Christian mindset, look into the UU church. Universal Unitarians allow any belief, they deal more with the spiriual not just doctrines. You get to see and talk about Native American's belief, Hindu, Buddist, Islam, and Christian. They are really into nature, and teach respect of the earth and all that inhabit it to the kids. I think it is wonderful for that reason. No judment, condemnation you can believe anything that you would like. JMO

i never thought it would happen, but it did.
i just didn't think i would be conducting a seder when i converted six years ago.
due to my in-laws moving into an assisted living apartment the passover seder will be at our home now.
Sounds like fun to me....maybe I want to be Jewish.
Leslie
thankyou so much for all the good wishes you have sent us in the last few days, trev has been printing up the emails, pms and threads, and bringing the cards to show me every day, and i get a lift every time i see him coming in with more of your lovely messages to read.. it's been a tough time for both of us, and it won't get any easier.
i am dreading chemo, to be honest, but i have to bear it, as i would anything that gives me hope.
but that's for monday, and i am going to enjoy myself as much as i can this weekend.
So glad that you are home, and in good spirits. I am sure you are frightened. Remember when you get scared that there are alot of us praying for you.

so, you are starting to leave the cult.
you begin to meet new people and instead of viewing them all as 'bad association', you begin to view them as fellow humans.
what was your first impression of 'worldly people'?.
My very first impression was...Wow they don't hate JW's like I was told, the next was geeeeeeeeeee they are nicer to me then many JW's. Nothing like I was lead to believe.

i have been disfellowshipped for 7 years and my grandfather refuses to eat with me.
there teachings are to love one another but this is not the case.
does anyone else have this problem.
First welcome Damien. Many of us are in the same position that you are in. I was DA'd about 8 years ago. I have not spoken to any of my family since. My grandparents both passed away a few years ago, I only heard about it by reading it in the paper.
It is all about control and power, it has nothing whatsoever to do with love. JW's say they show love, but it is just lip service. They love only on their terms. It certainly is not the example set by Christ, but think back how often did they ever teach us about Christ's love? It is always about Jehovah's anger, jealousy, etc. That is why they stress the behavior of God in the Hebrew scriptures. Keep coming back.

for 18 months i have been at loggerheads with my wife over the wts.
she has been the perfect watchtower slave even declaring that she'll never leave the truth.
i decided not to interfere in her life, attacking the society, and the idiots in the hall, but recently things have changed for the best.
Wow that is just awesome for you, and her. Obviously, you did a great job in reaching her. Wonderful, Wonderful. Wonderful!!!!
