it's like nothing ever comes easy for us.
just when one sorta good thing happens, something a whole lot worse happens and ruins our optimism.
Great ideas Blondie. I think all of us have a tendency to think that we have to go away to really have a vacation. Most people live in areas that people travel to, to see attractions in their hometown. Maybe you and hubby could look at what is local. Sometimes we need a break of the routine more then leaving the area.
The good news is that with education comes financial stability. You are both doing the right thing by furthering your education. Good luck, and vent away.

It is funny that I was just talking about this with my neice who is still a JW. Her father (my ex brother-in-law) passed away a few months ago. I did attend the funeral, and realized that the best thing I ever did was to DA myself and protect my children from their relatives. Not only on my ex' side but mine as well. My children are well adjusted, educated, and kind. Their cousins on both sides are still all JW's and are judgmental, unkind, stuggling to survive, stepford children. THANK GOD I AM SHUNNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It kept the JW's away from my kids.

i think my head is a little messed up from my recent relationship with a man who is a jw.
i attended a few meetings and bible studies with an older woman who i met at the first meeting.
i am not going to become a jw because i can't give up holidays and birthdays, but i do have a few questions.

I would have to say what you experienced is how people are sucked into this cult. They do seem normal, and the majority of folks are nice people. No one here thinks that all JW's are bad, after all we were all JW's once. It is the religion itself that is harmful.
Do you as a woman want a voice at all? Because I am here to tell you that no woman in that organization has anykind of voice. It is one reason that there is so much discord behind those smiling faces. I always thought that many JW's smile at you, but are holding a dagger behind their backs. As long as you stay in control they are nice, but once you even quesion anything you will see Dr. Jykell and Mr Hyde mentality.
I know you are hurting right now, but in time you will thank your lucky stars that you got away from their clutches.

your great-aunt brittney died tuesday morning she was found on her kitchen floor dead.
her funeral was this morning.

I am so sorry for the lose of your Aunt. It never ceases to amaze me how cruel the JW religion and its members are. I didn't find out about my grandmother's death either until it was in the paper. The love they speak of is just a smoke screen for thier power and control over the publishers.

i feel like i need to spill my feelings.
after lurking on the site, i realize my story is like many here.
the reason i am feeling nervous is that i have not broken the news to my parents yet about my inactivity as well as my standing as to what i think about this whole thing.
First welcome to the board, and how exciting that you have connected with your sister and are working on finding your brother.
I have to tell you I had no contact with my siblings for about 20 years. It has been along road to try to reconnect with them. It isn't as easy as you would think it is. We missed out on growing up together, and only remember each other as kids. Little by little it gets easier, but for me I had to do all the work. I think they felt since I turned my back on them and chose religion over them, it is up to me to fit in their world which I am willing to do. Good luck we are all here for you.

Your wife is an intelligent woman, give her time she will see through alot of it. She probably already does, but as we all know staying a JW is not always about intelligence. I think most of us on this board are fairly intelligent people, it is more about who we are, our belief systems, our dreams of being with those that we love forever, the power and control the borg has over its members, loosing your friends and family. It is very complex, also leaving is admitting that the dream is not real, that you were mislead, you wasted some of the best years of your life. Leaving is a process it does not happen overnight for most people. Good luck we are behind you.

my kid-brother, da'd for 6 years, came here to the philippines to marry the love of his life.
we invited our parents, both hard-core, active, fire and brimstone, book selling, family hating, rubba-flubs, and they came up with some cock-and-bull ($hit) story about how poor they were (gave it all to the watchliars, 1 million $+), and "would love to attend but couldn't afford it", and then announced that they were going to florida for a 3 week vacation.
