Why our beliefs are true...
by Dogpatch infrom gary busselman:.
a quote from skeptical inmquirer.
"finally, beliefs survive best when their adherents feel they are part of a cohesive community; an ideologue who gives his followers a sense of belonging has already won the battle against skeptics who seek to disconfirm his teachings.

Speaking of Mommy Dearest....
by LovesDubs ini heard the most interesting talk last year at the pa convention (witnesses now for jesus) regarding the roles that jws take...that basically there are three roles in a person's life, authority figure/parent, adult, and child.
the society becomes the authority figure, the jws become the children and the thinking, reasoning adult is suppressed, in fact destroyed.
hence, the jw becomes incapable of processing information or making decisions after awhile.

What did you do?
by StiLLinTruth into all those who have in some way left the organization (be it disfellowshipping, disassociating, dis-whatever):.
come now, i know the amount of people who "realized that wt doctrine was in serious error" and politely handed in their letter of resignation has to be very small.
the level of bitterness and hostility towards the closest-to-what's-biblical organization has to develop some other way.. what did you do?

Where do they sit in your hall?
by ns7 inwhat i find bemusing is, if there are any disfellowshipped ones in your hall they have to sit at the back.
now without getting into the merits/rights/wrongs of whether this should be still acceptable, where do they sit in your hall?
you see i seem to remember that they would sit on the back row, come in quietly just after the song and prayer and leave at the end just as quick.

Restrictions
by ozziepost inthere is a practice among jws of applying restrictions to individual members.
it forms part of the judicial process and, although having no scriptural basis, is applied automatically to erring ones who are judged to be repentant.. so, for a period of time, usually up to 12 months, the individual is not allowed to share in commenting at meetings, offering public prayer, appearing on the platform in congregation meetings, or in serving as an auxiliary pioneer.. as with any man-made law, difficulties arise from this practice.
although no announcement has been made to the congregation, individual congregation members can have their curiosity aroused.. for example, take the real-life situation where a sole parent has been placed on restrictions by a judicial committee.
