  Christians and dubs/treated same here

  hey guys.

  i got an idea as to why there is the same bitterness by many/not all, on this board twards christians like there is to dubs.

  you feel you have found it to be a crock just as the borg is and it makes you madder than crap to see people duped a second time.

  Take this quiz, all of you who are not biased against Christians:

  1. Do you want to barf when you hear “Songs for Worship” advertised on TV?
  2. Do you think non-Christians are smarter than Christians?
  3. Do you know any Christians who are not ‘fundies’?
  4. Can you name 10 possible differences between a ‘fundie’ and a, um, non-fundie?
  5. Do you think that the JWs are the Christian religion that is ‘closest’ to what the Bible teaches? If not, what denomination is?
  6. Do you feel more uncomfortable listening to a Christian explain their beliefs than a Native American?
  7. Do you think many Christians ‘preach’ on this board? If yes, please name 5 different posters here, not JWs, who ‘preach,’ meaning try to convert, people on this board (say in the last few months…two or three, say)
  8. Do feel an almost uncontrollable urge to tell a Christian they are wrong?
  9. Do you feel sorry for Christians?
  10. Do you think any exJW who becomes a Christian has just gone right back to the same crap?
  11. Would you be disappointed if someone you loved became a Christian?
  12. Look back at your last post to a Christian and pretend it was written by a Christian to you, instead of the other way around. would you be offended by it? Would you feel they were being disrespectful of your beliefs?
  13. Do you think that the only reason an exJW would become a Christian is because they didn’t research it as well as you have?
  14. Do you basically think your beliefs are superior to Christian beliefs?

  Ok, this is a quiz just for thinking about. Maybe you, the reader, ARE biased against Christians. Fine! As long as you realize it and accept it. It just seems like a lot of people have themselves fooled into thinking they ‘respect’ Christians and their beliefs when they really don’t. Face it. ‘Own it’, as they say in the program :)

  his "perfection" and understanding of the situation would certainly have mitigated his suffering.. his death was not really death, not in any meaningful sense.

  it was a 15 second nap, using bible reasoning.

  Yes, I think that was the point of the whole thing. No matter how much people make you suffer or hurt you, if God's you father...it can be overcome....even death.

  My husband is smoking pot

  i know this is not witness related but i just caught my husband smoking pot.

  i am so upset !!!

  he is an alcoholic and has a terrible temper.

  You are not a dork! You need support! You were right to look for some. It is out there. So many people know what you are going through and have been through it themselves. Those are the people who can help you. They want to hear your story and tell you theirs. It helps so much to share and to be understood and to realize you arn't crazy...your feelings are real and they count.

  I see your points. I guess I agree the suffering would be easier to bare if a person had the hope Jesus had. I still think the actual physical suffering would be the same. But I could be wrong. I hope I never find out, because frankly I am a chicken and pain hurts!

  Seriously:
  I would hope that I would volunteer for such a thing if it could save the world. That would be such a noble, heroic thing to do, wouldn’t you say?

  Obviously, in the human scale of suffering, Jesus suffered right up there at the top of the charts. Knowing that it all would be over soon does not make the suffering less real. He suffered intense, prolonged pain, and then died, as have millions of other human beings on this planet.

  Many people in the world have a hope of going to heaven or some such place after they die. If two people, an atheist and a believer, are suffering physically the same things and are about to die, is the believer’s physical suffering less because of their belief? Of course not. Suffering is suffering. Pain is pain.

  Christ felt the pain and the suffering on the cross just like the thief at His side did. Jesus didn’t have some sort of ‘holy anesthetic.’

  The reason what Jesus did is a big deal to Christians is that he volunteered for this awful suffering. That God came down and became one of US. He suffered like US. He showed us that death is not to be feared because He has power over it. He suffered and gave the world hope, that amazing hope that you think made his suffering worthless is precisely why Christians think it was a big deal.

  What My JW Family Members say....is this typical?

  i went to see my grandmother today, who has been a jw pioneer for going on 60 years and is still pioneering.

  this is what she told me.. she said that they had their one-day assembly yesterday and that attendance was high.

  she said that there was someone there from bethel in ny, who told everyone his experience of the attack on tuesday.

  Diana,

  I am so sorry to hear about this. I have told my JW relatives they are not to 'witness' to my children, just as I don't try to teach their children what I believe. Your situation sounds much more difficult.

  Maybe it would be worth the trouble to never leave your son alone with her. Always be there. This way, maybe you could save the relationship with grandma, but she would not have any more opportunity to 'witness' to your child. Just a thought...

  Also, I think it would be very important to answer all of his questions, and explain why you don't believe and why you think they are wrong. It sounds like he already believes in the JW junk. I would take steps right away to take care of that! Maybe you two could visit other churches, and see that the people there are not bad....help him to use logic...

  I really wish you well with this issue. Your post really got to me because I have a nine year old son, too, and this has always been one my biggest fears.

  I hope some people respond who have actually delt with this sort of thing, because this is an important issue many of us face.

  I do not support outlawing pot. I have a hard time believing you feel the same way about diet coke
  that I felt about pot.

  People can get addicted to diet coke.
  People can get addicted to coffee.
  People can get addicted to pot.

  While I support legal pot, I think it is irresponsible and dangerous and dishonest to use the lie that 'people can't get addicted to pot' as a support for making it legal. That is why I responded to your post, and why I respond to anyone who says or implies pot is not addictive. Not everyone will become addicted to it, but some will, can and have. That is just a fact.
  People who support legal pot should use the many other TRUE arguements that support their cause.

  My post was not an arguement against pot use or against making it legal. It was an arguement against the lie that people can't become addicted to it.

  physical one. It was a huge struggle to quit, and it was very hard for me to deal with 'real life' without pot for quite some time. I felt I needed to be stoned to be myself. I need to be stoned to communicate with my husband, I need to be stoned to relax. I needed to be stoned to THINK, believe it or not. Pot solved all my little day to day problems, and without it i was lost. An addict thinks they NEED the drug, and I was an addict.
