Is the Path to Salvation Clear?

inerrantists believe that every word in the bible is literally true; to believe otherwise, they say, is to remove the foundation upon which one may have a certain understanding of how one may achieve salvation and reach the kingdom of heaven.

that makes perfect sense, on one level.

if one could indeed know that everything in the bible is true, then one would just have to turn to the part where the method of salvation is described, do what the bible says, and live forever.

May I briefly interpose that the whole thrust of Pauls debate in Romans 8 points to salvation being in our possession by means of a hope. The hope having been cultivated by the action of the Spirit in our hearts gives fruit to a confidence in our eventuality.

Hence we are signed, sealed, and await delivery.
The destination becomes beyond question, if the sealing is sure.

now that we can prove that the wtbts have been in bed with the un for the last 10 years, we need to work out how we are going to use that information.. i intend to use it sparingly but with deadly effect.. it's simple.

i am going to show the articles to my jw relatives and then i am going to ask them if they feel that an organisation that does these things is also qualified to (a) decide who is or isn't a suitable person for jw's to associate with, and (b) do they still truist this organisation to make other major decisions on their behalf ie with regard to having a blood transfusion?.

i know that the initial reaction will be hostile and one of disbelief, but in my experience this is just the sort of thing that will simmer away in a dubs subconscious mind for many months before he / she will even admit to themselves that all is not well at brooklyn.

One good thing about being an elder is that people stop and listen before they give you the excuses.

I've used this on one person, with more to follow, and the result has been shock.
I started by highlighting that the UN is the disgusting thing, the image of the beast, then asking why the heck we've been in bed with them for the last ten years!!!

I may get the boot sooner than I wanted, but this is a real wake up call to many - don't underestimate it.

The three reasons we leave the "Truth"

seems to me there are mainly three roads most of us have taken.

1.we did something "wrong" and were disfellowshipped and after felt able to look at the society in a different light.. 2.we didn't like the "truth" and were looking for a way out.. 3.we wanted it to be the truth but were overcome by the mountain of evidence against it.. which is the most common i wonder.. also do our motives play a large part in how we deal with information criticising the org.. without a reason to act information seems useless.. for instance if a person feels he has nothing to gain by leaving the org will he read different things into the same info as us?.

i think so and that all who leave must have a reason to do so, something to gain.. this does not make their reasoning wrong or prove they we are looking for just excuse.. but is a normal way in which humans deals with information.. two humans can have the same information but if they want or desire different things they may use the information differently.. maybe thats wht so many say "where else is there to go?

That was exactly the reason I then went onto sites like this.

I imagine that most here remember the District Convention talk "Responsible childbearing in the time of the end" (1986?).
It certainly influenced my decisions at a time when I was thinking of starting a family, since it laid a big guilt trip on everyone to keep loyally working with a view to the "end".
Shame really, as I had huge paternal instincts and LOVE kids.

Then came a climb down that wasn't nearly as voluble.

JW Children: Feeling alone and sad

friday many american schools recited the pledge of allegiance to the nation's flag simultaneously, at 2pm eastern time (8am in hawaii).

to be sure, the pressure on children of jw's was great because of the nationalistic feelings that have swept america in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks.. should jw parents simply have removed their children for that afternoon?

or perhaps armed them with a better explanation (about why they won't say the pledge) then "it's because of my religion"???.

I had the same problem with regards the "Lord's Prayer", when I was a kid.
Having been instructed that it was improper to say repetitious prayers, I was castigated by my school friends (religious or otherwise). The teachers couldn't understand it, either.

I believe that it is a little easier in Britain, now.
My heart really goes out to the American kids, though. It's hard enough growing up without feeling "especially" self-conscious.
