A few questions for the Brits
by sir82 ini saw the movie "the queen" a few days ago, and was wondering how accurate the portrayals were of some of the things in the movie, such as:.
-- in at least one scene, tony blair is shown in the back seat of a car being driven down a highway, with his secretary at his side.
it appears that there is normal, regular traffic going down the road along with him.

Way to go!!!!
I clearly recall the phone call to my wee brother, who was still a MS at the time. After confirming that I wasn't joking he stated "oh well, that's that then. I can't have anything more to do with you".
As it happened he then travelled several hundreds of miles and took a boat across to our island, to spend a couple of hours convincing me of the error of my ways and to console the family. I pointed out this fact to him and then compared it to the complete lack of effort he had made with our sister who wasn't even DFed at this point. He was understandably dumbfounded, confessed that I had a point, and the conversation swiftly petered out.
Since that week we have never spoken another word, and he has still never seen his two beautiful nephews, whom I get to spend time with on a regular basis. He was even disgruntled that my parents kept a photo of my wedding day on display, citing that I no longer exist to him.
His loss...

Unfortunately this is just another incident that will be blown out of all proportion, as the media snips away all the context to maintain a headline.
Cowell doesn't come across as the kindest of people, but I highly doubt that folks can genuinely level charges, of ambivilance to hurt families in a tragedy, at him. Any negative gesture is almost certain to have been directed towards the singer, not the killings. An unguarded moment of frustration - yes; an intentional slight - no.
But I suspect it will not be allowed to rest for a couple of days at least, while it is milked dry...

Billy Graham's Son
by Sasha inthe evangelist; i like what his comment of the killings was: " he said the delvil is in charge of this world, that god did not take these children and that this was also the beginnings of something that would only get worse" i'm not quoting him exactly.
but almost.
anyone here him say that on tv?

He's not half the preacher of his daddy. His sister Anne is a far better speaker, IMHO. I met her in 2002.
It sounds very Gnostic, doesn't it? The Demiurge rules this world and takes children, with little hope of things getting better.

If science could let you live forever, would you take it?
by Paralipomenon inan ethical question for theists.
if science started to make some progress in extending our lifespan and eventually made a breakthrough that halted the aging process, even able to reverse it.
would you accept such a treatment, or allow yourself to grow old and die to take a chance at an afterlife.

Sure, but I'd have to drop my work to a four day week; after all, what's the rush?

Suicide
by Regrets inhello all.. i post here under a different name but feel the need to unburden myself anonymously.
i hope you can understand.. several years ago, while married and an active dub, i had a one night stand.
i was mortified at what i had done because this had happened before and i had told my wife.

While many here have seen the negative effects of Fundamentalist Christianity, folks raised in Scottish Presbyterianism have a saying that hits the mark when it comes to this kind of situation:
There, but for the grace of God, go I.
It acknowledges that we all have the ability to conduct ourselves in monstrous ways, being only one action away from any such deed. It takes the focus away from judgementalism, because if we don't slip in one way we often slip in another. If only such understanding were practised more consistently (and I intentionally don't use the word "forgiveness", here, because IMHO that would be condescending).
While there are always individuals that need further maturing into the ways of tolerance and understanding, for the most part the folks on this Board are great examples of what it means to love with few limits. We never find out until we test it, however, and your anonymous post has revealed that.
Peace and Grace be upon you.

Testing a Second Hypothesis...
by XJW4EVR inwhat must be, in order for what is to be what it is?.
in other words, what has to be in place for what is now, to be what it is.
example: outside of a structure it is 100 degrees farenheit, but inside the structure it is 70 degrees.

I'm also confused by your question.
Are you looking for a "null hypothesis" to validate something?

I think I've seen only two #13s my whole life, including the years I spent as a Pioneer. They do exist, but are as rare as hen's teeth.

Longest flight:
About 12 hours, if I recall correctly, with unfavourable winds. From London, up over Greenland and Canada, before tracking the Eastern coast of the USA and landing in Miami Florida.
