If you want to email me, I'm online now 1:10pm, and will be for a while.
I'm in the process of extracting myself, as a British elder.
Alternatively, i can hit the "chat" with you.

i thought that this was all out of the way when 2 weeks ago my wife & i handed in letters of disassociation.. we have been since then trying to adjust & just when i thought i was getting somewhere - starting to feel normal again - i got a phone call 1hr ago from our presiding overseer saying that they haven't announced it yet & wanted to talk.. he is a very nice guy & i was caught totally unprepared so i put him off - said i would ring back later - 2pm'ish uk time.. now i have that horrible feeling in my stomach again - help!.
basically, when it comes down to it i don't think we want them to come over - it will open us up too much & i don't want that.. also, though, i want to sort it out; so i am thinking of just chatting to him for a bit on the phone.. i didn't really want to do this since it could knock their faith & also i am not fully ready to argue all of the facts with elders.
however it looks like i will have to.. anyway when it boils down to it they can argue away all of the facts like the un thing etc.

there's a running debate i have going with my wife.
i have the opinion that it is very possible for married people to have friends of the opposite sex without the idea of a sexual encounter entering into the picture.
she disagrees, saying that once you're married, the marriage mate should be enough to offer you all you need in the way of companionship, conversation,etc.. let's say you're running an errand at the mall and happen to see someone of the opposite sex that you have known for years (your mate knows/doesn't know them... doesn't matter) and you decide to grab a cup of coffee and have a two-hour chat.
In a rational world, which most of you seem to live in, I would agree.
However, I'm with Outlaw on this one.
In our community it is taken for granted that this kind of friendship leads to bed-hopping. It still isn't accepted, but it's widely acknowledged.
It put's a serious restraint on the kind of healthy relationship here discussed.
I have a few such friendships, but they have caused me grief from my wife because of how it's viewed.

one of the (many) things that started me questioning the borg related to the baptism questions, talk etc.. anybody notice how matt.28 isn't mentioned, even though that is down as the primary reason for field service?.
maybe it's just the assemblies that i've been to.. what's your experience?.
does that invalidate the baptism?.
Rex:
I appreciate your point, for sure.
However, isn't it still essential that it's done properly?

Thanks for the reply Jeff, that's interesting.
I was born into the borg, hence never had that.
In addition, I know that some churches frown on infant baptism.
Just to widen this slightly, anybody know if there's a similar understanding with the Catholic church (Roman, or otherwise)?

every so often someone starts a thread asking for amusing wts anecdotes.
i always enjoy them, so lets have another.
i will start the thread with a tale of thwarted minions and district conventions.. during a session i left my seat and stood at the back of the concourse.
Hilary:
Nice one, that's excellent.
Here's another...
One sister I know sat in the deaf section.
A brother walked up to her and asked if she should be there.
She said "Uh???", not catching the question properly..
He apologised, nodded and walked away?

Anyone subsequently got themselves re-baptised after leaving?

maybe this is old hat to some, but i found it disturbing.
it's contained in excerpts from british body of elders letters.. the following references can be found on silentlambs:.

BOE January 1, 2001
Para 6
When a member of the congregation is accused of child molestation remember to contact the Society's Legal Desk immediately. A record should be made on the "Child Protection" list as described above. All correspondence, including judicial records, should be sent to the Society unless directed by the Society to do otherwise.
No mention is made of contacting the police at this point.
BOE June 1, 2001
Para 4
There is one exception to the above direction: The elders may have written to the branch office and given full details about a former child abuser who is currently serving as an elder or ministerial servant. In such a case, if the branch office has decided that he can be appointed or continue serving in a position of trust because the sin occured many years ago and because he has lived an exemplary life since then, his name should not appear on the list, nor is it necessary to pass on information about the brother's past sin if he moves to another congregation unless contrary instructions have been given by the branch. If therefore, such an appointed man moves to another congregation a letter confirming the move should be sent, addressed to the Society's Legal Department.
So there may be some historical child abusers in positions of authority.
don't go to the bathroom on october 28th.

that a major plot is planned for that day.

Now you've made me sad.
No-one should do that to a Ferarri!!!
The Yello soundtrack was excellent, though.

if you were to check out www.charity-commission.gov.uk.
you would find if you typed in ibsa the following registration number would show: 216647. as far as we know, for we are now awaiting a response, it is illegal all over the country for charities to solicit from door to door unless they have a full identity card, something which the wtbts has flouted law on for many years.. in view of current events, surely they must be able to see the wisdom of such an approach.
i mean its not exactly unreasonable when you really think about it, what the state is asking them to do.
Hi Sunbeam - nice info.
LOL
I have the forum open on my desktop in the office.
I also get emails from threads that I've posted to.
It's kinda addictive, once you've been liberated from the borg mentality.

Jim:
Sorry pal, YOU are wrong. Each local congregation was asked to create a "Child Protection List" (I think that's the proper term).
The "Specialized Shepherding List" is for DA's, DF's, and Reprovals - with no word of the offense.
Neither of these lists are on forms provided by the Society.
The details kept on them both are VERY sketchy, being basically dates, names of individuals, and a VERY terse reason from a selected list. C.O.'s were asking to check these lists, to see if they conformed to the Society's guidlines - I saw them BOTH with my own eyes.
There have been quite a few BOE letters during the last 12-18 months on Child Abuse and Data Protection - I saw THEM with my own eyes as they were circulated around the whole body.
Nelly:
It's quite inconsistant, isn't it. I guess it's part of the paranoia surrounding the "Great Tribulation is just around the corner" mentality. Add to that, the recent Watchtower suggesting that you don't help the authorities find the Elders and C.O.'s, etc., and you can see why they want to keep names and addressess off of lists.
It heightens peoples persecution complex.
