Calvinism

the basic 5 points of calvinism.

Just got to add 2p here, in that Calvin (and the bible) declares that all mankind are sinners (hence scum), believer and unbeliever alike.
So, here we are doing our scummiest best, even though we believe.

I do have to concede that I've found a goodly number of bigots amongst online Calvinists. That having been said, I find that in every belief system, including atheism. After all, don't a number of voluble atheists hold Christians in derision for believing "antiquated mythical claptrap" (in their eyes).

Unfortunately, quite a number of them (bigots) seem to gravitate to sites with a religious theme, like this one. Then they go wading in, with both boots, not appreciating the rawness of those fleeing damaging cults like the one we've been exposed to. It seems to me that their lack of sensitivity does more harm to their cause than they could ever perceive.

If you walk a mile in another's shoes, you may see why they limp the way they do (that isn't a suggestion that you join the JW's, btw).

Also, whilst I hold Spurgeon in high regard, I would rather read him from an archive, rather than from a cut'n'paste in the middle of a thread. I suggest you post the link, if you feel it important. I understand that Simon is having bandwidth issues, at the moment, and this IS predominantly a site for ex-JW's.

Watching the World......Six got shocked

we have so much negative to say about the wt, that sometimes we forget to look for negative things to say about the world.

well sometimes it just reaches out and slaps you.. today a man made an offhand comment to me that has me fantisizing about murder.. i've been working on the exterior of a house for the past couple of days, and the woman next door, who comes out to her car every now and then for a ciggy, is, well, slammin.

I suspect that UnD was actually being quite specific on the point of Jesus being our "only Lord and Master. I don't think the issue was the KJV or NKJV translation.

I have to thank you for your fairness in citing the various translations that highlight this very point, and for quoting 2Pet.2:1. The fact that you have a different interpretation, of the gleaned details, is neither here nor there (to my mind). I find you a thoroughly nice guy, and reasonable to boot.

Since Jesus is the one who "bought" us at great cost, and is our Lord and Master, I can personally only accede with Thomas (John 20:28) that he is "my Lord and my God" (coupled with the fact that he never refused any honour, nor refuted the Pharisee's complaint that he was making himself equal with God).

I have to confess that I need to study Isa.9:6 a little closer, as I want to be sure of which context to place Christ in, as the "Eternal Father". I feel certain that he isn't THE Father, which makes it an interesting title.

Regarding Rev.5:12, my understanding stems from the symbology of the lamb, in that Christ's sacrifice has been made, and so he returns from a state of abasement (humiliation). In Revelation, we now find him being glorified in heaven, with the glory he had before the founding of the world (John 17:5).

I've found it amazing to read Revelation without the Watchtower blinkers. It's still very deep, but is becoming far more understandable.

I can so follow your comment about the JW Jesus being relegated into "nothingness". They seem to ignore the fact that he is the judge, the rock, the dispenser of waters of life, etc., etc., etc.

I also agree with your comments about the central doctrine of Christianity.
