J.W's and Divorce

it has become apparent to me, through many of your stories that jw's seem to have a hard time staying with their spouses who leave the borg.

i was wondering if this is just a case by case thing or are they in fact encouraged to leave spouses who no longer believes.

it seems strange that they would encourage that seeing as how we are instructed to stay in marriages even with a non-believer if they are happy to stay in the marriage.

The thing that's causing the greatest damage to my marriage (since I left 11 months ago) is the restraints on communication. Being the "life-blood of the marriage" and all that.

It's also surprising just how many thing you say which can be construed as spiritual or biblical. Add to that the fact that when we leave we only have a JW language. You notice these things, when your spouse jumps down your throat about it, a few times.

Has my marriage been under attack, this last year? You betcha!!!

Hooked On A Kingdom Song.

i've just been playing back farkels rendition of his "dubsticks".

it really makes me smile, the way that he makes the melody weave in an out of "chopsticks" and then "from house to house" in a way that is so fluid that it brings to mind the almost seamless stitching together of the old "hooked on 45's" and "hooked on classics" albums of the early 80's.. so i was thinking, what kingdub songs could we weave effortlessly into existing music?

i can think of two or three right now.. "we thank you jehovah" bears more than a passing resemblance to haydns "creation" imho.. then again "keep your eyes on the pies" is almost, to my tuneless ear anyway, a carbon copy of "some day my prince will come" from the movie snow white.. finally, an old kingdub song whose name escapes me, but carrying the words "it's your commission now to preach", always puts me in mind of the main them running through wagners "lohengrin".. now i'm not suggesting for one minute that maestro farkel should work on melodies such as these for the sole purpose of our mutual tittilation.

as a horror fan, i've seen every antichrist movie from the omen to the omega code.

and that number 666 keeps popping up.

so, i was thinking about that number, and how it's actually written in the bible is a bit odd.

Where is help for old ones/Battered wives etc.

there have been many articles from the wt regarding their position on looking after our aged ones and the abused wives and children.

where are the houses of refuge for these ones plus retirement homes?

most other religions have them.i.e.

I understand that there was an old folks home near Manchester (UK), that was staffed (mainly pioneers) and occupied by JW's.
They charged extra, so that the residents could be taken out to on Field Service and to Meetings.

Even my dyed-in-th-wool-JW brother was offended by that.

Are there too many EX-JW Born agains?

i dont wish to offend anyone but this is what i think.a large number of people who leave the jehovahs witness movment become born again christians or join other religious groups.but is this a sign that many who have learnt that "gods chosen organisation" is wrong have not learnt anything at all?.

maybe the prospect of facing a future without a god , a divine purpose , and a faith just too much for some people to bear.but in joining another religious group are they not making the same or similar mistakes as before?they are still putting their trust in a ancient book written by people they have never met, interpretted by other people or by themselves, they have not maybe learnt to be analytical in their thinking and to withhold trust until reasonably solid evidence is provided on an issue.. although other religious may or may not be more harmful than jehovahs witnesses if lessons on thinking and reasoning have not been learnt then we could be open to many more errors of judgment in our lives.. so does the fact that many jehovahs witnesses join other religons show that they are just moving on rather than understanding why jehovahs witness are wrong and learning from it?.

maybe they dont fully grasp that the fudamental flaw to jehovahs witness , is belief in the bible as gods word only the second being following that through an organistation .if the bible is not gods word then all religions who follow it are flawed.. of course what other people choose to think or follow is none of my buisness and i fully respect other peoples right to believe what they want, but if this world is to progress and mankind to improve in thier dealings with one another then we can not all go round living in our own little fantasy worlds , we must be brutal with ourselves in checking why we believe the things we do and trying to align our minds with reality not fantasy.. this apllies to all aspects of our lives.but if we are not honest or open minded and reasonable enough to see there are some massive problems to the bibles authenticity and divine declerations how will we be able to make reasonable decisions in other areas of our lives?

Help on translation of Lord/Jehovah in NWT

i am having great trouble with distinguishing between where the nwt refers to jehovah in the nt and where it should really read lord meaning, not god, but the lord; jesus.

the problem comes to light in a passage quoted in this weeks watchtower study.. the passage in question was romans 14:8, though you really have to read verse 9 as well to a better flavour of what paul was talking about.. in the nwt, the passage reads;.

9. for to this end christ died and came to life again, that he might be lord over both the dead and the living.. other translations, which do not attempt to substitute gods name, render the passage along the lines of;.

Part of the problem is probably that we've been trained to believe that God means Father and Jehovah menas Father. If you read Jehovah means Jesus and God means Jesus (unless it specifically says Father), it seems to make more sense (that's a pretty broad stroke, I know, but you get the gist of what I mean).

My reading took on a whole new light when I started looking for where it explicitly said "Father".

After all, who is the Rock, Judge, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, "my Lord and my God", etc.?
Is it not Jehovah, no it's Jesus, no it's God, no it's Jehovah...
