Purgatory and JWN
by wha happened? inwell hello everyone.. after some thought, i realized that i've created a middle world for myself, that is neither jw, nor included in the other 99% of the population.
in fact, living here in jwn is like a cong sometimes.
the rumours, the gossip, the clicks, it's all here, if that's what u want.. what's happened to me is that i'm almost in a jw state of mind with the small group mentality.

The overwhelming need to protect the mother 'org' at all costs boggles the mind. There's little concern over the victim or the actual facts of the case, it's just a reflexive need to protect the org. After the Catholic sex scandals, several Catholics that I know felt free to criticize the Catholic Church over their handling of the ordeal. They also expressed concern over the victims above all else. Most of all, they sought reform. In contrast, Witnesses identify their earthly organization with 'Jehovah' so much that they have to march lockstep in their conclusions.

I believe in the awe and beauty of the universe, the mystery that we call God.
I believe in the way of Yeshua, who cared for the poor and marginalized of society, and dared to defy dogma and legalism.
I believe in Buddha, who taught us to look within for contemplation and compassion.
I believe in Lao-Tzu, who expounded on the harmony of nature.
I believe in Nietzsche, who taught me the beauty of blasphemy.
I believe in Darwin, who revealed that all living things are connected.
And I believe in the Beatles, who taught that in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

'Apostates' aren't looking for a meme, the Watchtower Society is supplying plenty of fodder for the opposition. It almost makes one wonder what's going on inside. Are they intentionally self-destructive, or just clueless?

Can Satan enter your mind if you stop thinking?
by God_Delusion inas a kid, my brilliant pioneering mother told me that if i stopped thinking, satan and his demons could enter my mind.
am i the only one that was told this useless drivel?
is there a watchtower article that sort of backs this up?.

From what I remember, Satan could enter from not thinking, thinking too much, thinking too independently, thinking about something other than what is in the WT publications, and thinking for yourself.
As someone who recently began to practice zazen (zen meditation), the only side effect is feeling calmer and more relaxed. Satan hasn't showed up yet.

Greetings from Candace Conti
by AndersonsInfo incandace asked me to tell you thank you for all your kind expressions of support.
this really means a lot to her.
she wants you to know that she is coping well with all the stress and excitement, even though she's had years of anger and frustration because of being abused for so long, first by the molester, and then by the wt.

Why do only xian religions have soo many pedo problems ?
by mP inim not trying to poke fun at any particular religion or show favouritism, but im having a hard time recalling similar repeated scandals in non xian religions.
i cant recall hearing of pedo scandals in islam or buddism.
yes i know that islam perpetrates many other evils like so call honour killings but buddhism seems to be rarely in the news for similar evils ?

There's reports of pedophiles across cultures and religions. The big issue among certain Christian denominations is the structures that were put in place created a 'haven' for pedophiles and sexually dysfunctional individuals. The Catholic Church is a case in point, as they provided cover for pedophiles for decades. A similar situation seems to have developed in the Watchtower, a certain structure was set in place where pedophilia wasn't reported to the authorities. I think the fact that Christian religions are very 'organized' have something to do with it, and that many of them are large and bureaucratic. It creates a 'cover my ass' type of mentality. As far as individual cases, it definitely does occur across religions.

I remember reading somewhere that Buddhism was growing very fast as well. I can attest to this when I attended a Buddhist temple and saw the group grow overnight. But it's hard to measure as a lot of people who attend are 'seeker' types who rarely self-identify as Buddhists.
I would say that the growth of Islam can be largley attributed to immigration, at least from what I've seen.
Oh yeah, I agree that atheism is not a religion. It's not like atheists go to the atheist temple and light incense to the atheists saints or anything. There were times in history where atheists adopted rituals in movements, and some of the 'new atheists' are almost fundamentalist-like in their zeal. But I don't think this means they consist of a 'religion'. It's a philosophical system rooted in materialism - that all phenomena can be explained through observation of the physical world. Hardly the stuff of a 'religion'.
