as counterintuitive as it may seem with the constant impending armageddon agenda, i know of many died-in-the-wool company men (and women) who would swallow whatever spin the society feeds them to keep the numbers up.
farfetched perhaps, but what else can they do?.

Our son is in jail for a crime. My fam says its my fault for leaving JW's.

all seemed well and then last week my 20 year old son committed a crime and is now in jail 1500 miles away.
everyone that knows him says he is a good kid.

Obviously your JW family doesnt read the papers or they would see that the good brethren all around them are into trouble and sinning. The blindness is on their part. When I DAd and some nasty inlaws started treating me like crap, I was told "What do you EXPECT? You LEFT JEHOVAH! So dont start complaining and blaming everybody else for your problems! You BROUGHT THIS ON YOURSELF!"
Yep...your leaving Jehovah has caused earthquakes, the hike in gas prices, global warming and probably Britneys shaving of her own head.

There are JWs happy to be in that org
by greendawn inwe on this forum were all more or less unhappy with the wts for one reason or other and inevitably we left that religion which we consider to be in fact a cult.
we can't understand or imagine how anyone could be happy living in that negative environment yet there seem to be quite a few dubs that are happy and content being jws.
apart from the obvious ones eg those that have some status which gives them a sense of importance why do others feel happy being there?

I always APPEARED to others to be happy too. You get really good at it. The Society says over and over that if you ARENT happy then YOU are at fault because you are not SPIRITUAL enough. You arent STUDYING enough. You arent out in SERVICE enough. Your meeting attendance isnt REGULAR enough. Its YOU. This is Jehovahs Happy People DAMMIT!! If you arent happy YOU are some kind of screw up and we are going to HELP you by now avoiding you because your unhappiness is probably contagious so that will make you even MORE not happy and we are shunning you and not inviting you to get togethers because we LOVE you you know.
I never in my life before or after my 13 years in the Dubs met as many people on antidepressants, vitamins, with rare blood ailments, and cabinets full of homeopathic crap than they were.
Jehovahs Happy People...shhhhyah. Right. Even if you ask a JW with a gun to his temple if he is happy being a JW he will say "I LOVE being one of Jehovahs people! What a priviledge to serve the one true god!" Just before he blows his brains out.

I love Slims take on baaaaaaad behavior by JWs. The nanosecond the JW gets caught being an asswipe....BOOM they arent a JW any more. Which means by extrapolation...that all the JWs in the organization are PERFECT PEOPLE who never to annnnnnything the least little bit sinful. Gosh..all those years as a JW and I never knew that I was PERFECT so long as I didnt stray to the left or the right of the Societys line in the sand.
Got caught stealing? POOF your E ticket to Paradise is stamped VOID
Got caught sodomizing the kids in the congregation? POOF We already forgot your name.
Got caught expressing your disdain for blacks? Homos? Jews? POOF Your service card is mysteriously missing from the file and the friends dont even look your way any more.
Thats how you keep the congregation clean...you just cut the mold off the cheese and eat it anyway.
This JW bigot will probably get a part on the next district assembly for standing up for Jehovahs standards. And everybody will applaud politely and go eat their hoagies.

The internet takes on a life of its own. I used to be in the AOL JW chat rooms almost non-stop until AOL started monitoring them and putting the squeeze on who could say what and then who could come in at all...until it just died. I was mourning the loss. Then when we were on H20 and that went away...it was like somebody cut a lifeline because you become so attached to the "thing" we all have in common here. Its not individuals so much with me as the community and the safe place to go when you are falling apart and the intellectual level of the posters here...the incredible wealth of information and knowledge shared so effortlessly and lovingly.
Ive met thousands of wonderful people since getting my AOL account in 1996 and even tho Ive only personally met a handful...each of them played a big part in my life when they were in it. They came, they signed in, they shared, they signed off...and were gone.
I tried once to delete my aol name Lovesmenot...but she had become a real person to me, and so many people knew her. I deleted her...and then a month later reinstated her because you can do that with AOL. I know that sounds weird but when I was Lovesmenot I was a freedom fighter extraordinaire getting people emancipated from the JWs. Those of you who knew me then...know what Im talking about :)
So yes I made lifelong friends here...and one of them was me and its about damn time.

mom said come to meetings, i was genuine with her and told her why i don't, mom replies with denial of what she just read (like i am a confused baby), then i replied with an email that absolutely takes care of everything.
from evolution vs creation, to the bible, to jehovah, and the wts.

I think the numbers Randy posted only reflect the "growth" or the lack thereof...in the United States. Worldwide I think there was some "growth" but their counting methods stretch that condom over that bowling ball to dangerous degrees in an effort to continue to say they HAD any "growth". And tumors will grow until they kill their hosts.
But when the numbers start going down all over the place, they have that covered too when they say that God is going to start honing the whole operation down to only the few loyal ones and people who leave were never "one of them" to begin with and there will be a great apostacy and the greater number will cool off blah blah blah.....Oh LOOK we MUST be close to the end because the apostates are leaving the organization and its only us GOOD ones left!
Its like when you join...the first thing they tell you is you have the TROOF and you are going to get crap from your family and friends about being in the the TROOF and they will try to take you away from Jehovah because you have the TROOF....and sure enough you go and start spouting this crap to your family and yeah they DO have a problem with your being in the TROOF and they ask you what the hell is the MATTER with you??? And you say HEY this must be the TROOF because what they said was going to happen to me did!! And if the numbers go up, Jehovah is blessing the field work, and if the numbers go down God said that too...so not to worry Dubbies. No matter what your count is, the Society has a Plan B for making you "see" that its alllll gooood.
