i walked away from the jw religion nearly 9 years ago after "waking up" to the lies & mind games.
since then i've learned the full extent of the manipulation (thanks to websites such as this & the coc book)and have successfully overcome the emotional & spiritual crisis that i experienced the first few years after my departure.
i can say that i am at a place in my life now where i am happy, spiritually fulfilled and religion-free!

it all starts off pretty benign, when she suddenly says "well, you believe man can solve the problems of this world"... she says this because i've ran for political office twice, losing once.
i know where this is going... so i say "i've never said that is our only hope, i just recognize that i live in this reality today, i'm here now, and god's kingdom isn't.. it's the men here now that run things, if god ever steps in, then i'll gladly move aside as i'm sure any man would".
she says something to the effect, that we disagree on that?
I know...lets all don white robes and sit on the ROOF of BETHEL BROOKLYN waiting for God to wisk us off to Heaven. Anybody? Thought not.
In the MEANTIME while God is taking his sweet time reappearing, if indeed there is some sort of savior reappearance imminent, mankind is in charge of this planet and without SOMEBODY taking the bull by the horns down here total ANARCHY is what you will have and whether the Dubbies like it or not they live in a free country here BECAUSE of the actions of men taking charge of things in Gods stead.

i can barely remember the anguish i used to go through as a witness trying to figure out if i had jehovahs spirit with me, or if jehovah was allowing satan to test me or if things happened because of times and unforeseen occurances.. confusion.....anxiety i would pray, pray pray to jah for guidance.
anytime something good happened it was always jehovah watching out over me.. now, i was not born a witness...i became a witness, then i was df, reinstated, and now apostate.
and things have happened in my life pretty much the same in all circumstances.
Oh...and when you are depressed and you are a Witness...its your fault you are depressed because "Jehovahs People are Happy People". And you must have lost Jehovahs blessing in your life because you arent going out in service or going to meetings regularly and so you are doing this to yourself. So...you get MORE depressed because you arent pleasing Jehovah and then the "friends" help the situation by shunning you because if you are depressed you must be doing something wrong so you are bad association. And on and on and on....so JWs dont admit they have depression, they just go to the health food store and stock up on homeopathic meds so they dont have to SAY they are depressed to save face.

Stuff just happens Purple...your choices bring most of it to you, the rest is somebody elses choices bringing their shit into your life :) I have to look at my brother who is going on 49 in July. He married a woman in 1990, they both became Mormons, good solid family. Four children. She died of pancreatic cancer in May 07 at age 44. WAY too early to die. Then upon her death, my brother lost his home, he lost his cars, he filed for bankruptcy, his dog died and he got laid off from his job. BOOM....less than 12 months all that happened. Never a nicer guy on the planet you know? He feels like Job...or a country western song or something. :) And...in the last two months, he also met a woman on the Mormon Singles website. Theyve fallen madly in love with each other and are getting married in September and her family has wealth and room for him and his kids to come live with them.
So go figure.
I do know when I have a better attitude about my life, better things happen. Negative energy.

there is one elder in the cong who calls around every so often to "chat" as i only stopped attending meeting a couple of months ago.
i've spoken to him about certain subjects - eg the un thing and the misuse of quotes - but he has no useful answers for me.
Welcome!! Hey...just FYI dont ever talk to an elder on the phone for more than 10 seconds...they often have 3-wayed calls with another elder on the line in case you say anything incriminating and will then have their TWO WITNESSES to bust your butt.
The less you say the better. If they want to know how you are...say "Fine! In fact, never felt closer to Jehovah in my life than I do now! And how are you Brother?"

it seems to me like they try to make "black comedy" based on type casting of the black culture...like they are making fun of themselves and I dont find that funny. I did love Flip Wilson, Bill Cosby made my sides split and Richard Pryor... I still keep renting the movies though..hoping I will be entertained. :)
If you guys havent seen "Death at a Funeral" which is NOT black comedy...check it out. It was VERY funny.

I live in the West Palm area. What are the odds of a Downs Syndrome male living to age 61? What are the odds of finding a Jehovahs Witness in a gated community in West Palm Beach when most of the residents are Jewish and from Brooklyn? Shit no wonder it took him 3 years...probably nobody knew what he was even talking about. Im also thinking if this was not a long term care facility, they would not have tolerated him bothering people every day for three years around that pool. Its not like a U-Store-It where you can just drop off your check once a month and put stuff and leave it unattended. There is no way he was allowed to do this. There is a community down here that is trying to get an 85 year old man to stop running his little electric remote control boat around the lake on the property because it's "disturbing the quietude of the other residents". Nope...aint buyin this story and yes...the congregation knew this sister died and did NOTHING to find out what happened to this man???

i read a page or so from the book, and the first thing i notices is the simple language used that sounds like it is written to be read by a little child who is in elemenatary school.. the styel if very condescending and actually is insulting as if the reader is expected to have a very low level of intelligence or reading ability.. what is going on?

Well since most high school graduates, if they graduate at all, barely read and comprehend things at like 6th or 7th grade levels, and the WTBTS is telling people NOT to pursue higher education, then they HAVE TO DUMB DOWN everything!
Im sure they will point to Jesus followers being "unlettered" and simple fishermen, sheep herders and oh yeah...hookers...who didnt really have any education.
